No, he doesn't use auto tune.

not autotune, no. he does use some effects on some of his vocal layers sometimes to create a specific sound, which he did in this case on that high part 🙂

Nothing Else Matters was Geoff's arrangement, so he did all of the editing, production choices, everything except the lighting, that's Eli. The frog noise was Layne on another track. He tried beatboxing while playing the violin, but it was not attractive. This was originally supposed to be their Halloween cover last year, but J None's leave was cancelled. So they put it on the shelf until after Christmas.
This is the only time (so far) that Geoff has sung harmony without showing the other versions of himself. Layne was helping with the camera work, and Eli did the lighting. Everything else is all Geoff. He is just an amazing man!
Love your double features. You might try Voiceplay's I Can't Make You Love Me and Geoff's Ain't No Sunshine. You'll need two boxes of tissues.
    See ya!

I'm happy that you liked my recommendation of "Nothing else matters" - and I loved your reaction, too. 🥰 As I said earlier, for me, it's the masterpiece of Voiceplay and especially of Geoff's arrangements. I'm looking forward to upcoming reaction of you both and I send greetings from Germany! 👏😊

Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play & Geoff. Geoff has a way of reaching deep down into the depths of your soul. His voice is so smooth no matter what register he sings in. His transitions from his lows to highs & highs to lows are so smooth. I could also listen to him hum all night. Please, whatever you do, never end any of his or Voice Plays videos until after the credits stop rolling. Sometimes they have a slight pause/ blackout before a dramatic effect or message such as in Geoff's " Man Of Constant Sorrow." or Voice Plays " Running Up The Hill " Or their " Halo " theme song from the Halo video game. The composer of the Halo theme music was totally amazed by their cover & said it was the best he ever heard.

Geoff's high note in this was just as impressive as the low notes. He hit an Eb4 which is huge for a low bass. His range is jaw dropping. These are two of their very best, hands down. These guys may have Layne, but musically they don't have a "lane" to stay in. They can do any genre with ease. From the decor on you wall I would suggest watching Oogie Booie, What's This? and Kidnap the Sandy Claws. Great fun and Oogie Boogie is in a class all by itself and kind of put VP's theatric side on the map. Plus, Geoff does one heck of a run at the end that can't be missed.

Lmao. Nothing else matters was the first song they did this year and it's only gotten progressively better from there. In my room beach boys cover featuring dj young has some absolutely exquisite harmonies. Valhalla calling which is thier mist recent video as of a week ago today, is absolutely epic. Golden hour has impressive vocal acrobatics. And I think geoff just released a new solo which I have yet yo check out but I am positive it's amazing. You guys should totally check those out. Oh and voiceplay doesn't auto tune any of their stuff. Oh and you guys should check out some of their Disney stuff. I recommend starting with the little mermaid medley. Three words, "Geoff Is Ursula"!!! Lol

To me Nothing Else Matters is the most beautiful song they've done. I love all the others too but this is my favorite. You also hit with Geoff's best solo in my opinion. It's a song I've loved for near 50 years. I really wish that Simon and Garfunkel had been awarded the Nobel Laureate for poetry because so much of their music is. Geoff did a great arrangement and encapsulated so much of the emotion in the original and added more. Your comment on the red/blue lights was the first I'd heard on that but I think you may be correct given the lyrics and emptiness at that point. You scored an A+ for doing both of my favorites. The new ones are really fine ones as well, Valhalla Calling and Man of Constant Sorrow. Listen at the end of Man for some good advice from Geoff.

I encourage you to check out Dream On, a cover of Aerosmith. Their productions are always so amazing and I think you will not be disappointed in their work! Please do more PTX and Voiceplay! As noted below, they do have a new video out call Valhalla Calling, and you may love their Stranger Things cover. I fell in love with the series because of that song! Acapella music is magical and helps me so much with my chronic pain issues, especially the bass singers. There is magic to music when it's only voices!!!

I don't think there's any autotune on Geoff, but I think you do get a unique effect when you layer the same voice on top of itself with parts that are very close.

I'm so glad you did this reaction. VoicePlay is certainly outstanding.
Changing genres completely, have noticed that Sabaton released a new music video this Friday? A cover of Motörhead 1916.
May I suggest a double feature, first the original and then Sabaton. Prepare with tissues though.
As the song progresses I'm curious to see how many references to other Sabaton songs you can pick out from the people mass, you being familiar with their catalogue.

The red light was to highlight the line "When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night, and touched the sound of silence" Not sure there was a blue light. The new ones from VP and Geoff are, if anything, even more impressive. Valhalla Calling, and Man of Constant Sorrow.

    Awesome double feature.
I think Valhalla Calling beats Nothing Else Matters. It's kind of a shame you've already done the My Mother Told Me prequel. Personally, however, I would suggest making an exception and redoing it as a refresher to make a double, as that could be really interesting.

With regards to that "Break between his low and his low low voices" that's actually an active area of research right now!... Like, not just of him specifically, but not quite that far from it either! It's something called Subharmonic singing and it's adjacent to throat singing but significantly different to the extent that the current hypothesis is that "Subharmonics" are actually just the Blend between Chest and Fry in the same way as Head Voice is the blend between Chest and Falsetto.

    • @katthor7311

@@TouchyReactions Pattycake Productions is the production company owned by Layne and former baritone of VP, Tony Wakim. VP and Geoff often film there and take good use of their varied sets and props. Pattycake, named after Layne's favorite film, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, does productions for others but they also have their own that they create which you can find on the Pattycake Productions RUclips channel.

Auto tune is for people that can't sing. If there is anyone on this planet can be said to know how to sing it's definitely Geoff Castellucci!
