if I'm remembering right, Rawlins told a story about seeing black flag before he joins (the original version of the song had Dez on vocals), and Dukowski open the gig in New York and making a whole bunch of racket and bass and then they launch into this.
Fugazi's Waiting Room is one of my favorite riffs to play. It's always nice seeing someone else play bass with a pick. I've only been playing 6 months and I still have yet to really meet others who do the same.
The Waiting Room intro is my go-to. It’s the first thing I play whenever I try a new bass… and often just the first thing I play whenever I pick up a bass.
I got to see fIREHOSE live one night in Riverside, CA. Mike Watt was flyin' the flannel and a full beard. It was SO LOUD it was at the threshold of pain. I loved every second of it.
Very cool! You included some of the ones I thought of when I saw the title. Here’s a few others I like: * “Guns of brixton”- the Clash. * “Death Disco” (aka Swan Lake)- P.I.L. * “Bro Hymn”- Pennywise. * “Smell the Bacon (What’s with you)- Agnostic Front/Madball (this one was later borrowed by AF associate Peter Steele on “Black No. 1”, not that that’s punk; other good ones by AF are “last warning” and “United blood”). Cheers!
I for sure agree with Guy, you need a Matt Riddle riff in there. IMO that guy was a total unsung hero, for one I love his playing... always present, always buisy, but always holding down the bottom end and filling out the mix. For another, Between F2F, Pully, and NUFAN he's been on so many really strong recordings that one has to assume his contributions go beyond just playing bass.
My favorite youtube guitarist! Bloxsy doesnt shill for cheap guitar companies, pedal companies or cheap gimmicky paraphernalia. He just plays great fucking music.
Cool!! I know it's not a punk band but "It's so easy" by Guns n' Roses has a great bass intro, and the song itself has a punk vibe. Probably cause Duff McKagan came from that scene back in Seattle
@@blackman5867 they came out of the Sunset Strip and the Rainbow and the glam scene... It's a tough sell, but Appetite is regarded as a great album by most people. It has its punk moments. I love it top to bottom
Minutemen ,Fugazi ,Black Flag talking heads, best groove, dead kennedys, joy division, rancid best musical arrangement, gang of four and nirvana descendents just in the middle. Minor threat out of step 😊
Excellent as always. Myage is my favorite punk bass line ever. "Last One Out of Liberty City" by Less than Jake and "Typhoons" by Royal Blood are also incredible punk bass lines.
Enjoyable, thank you. Just for future reference, the most punk rock bass intro is Ain't No Feeble Bastard by Discharge ... it just is. However, Klaus Fluoride's my favourite bassist so you had me smiling right from the start.
Part 2 the Vandals Wanna Be Manor, Suicidal Tendencies I saw your Mommy, Ramones Little Bit O' Soul, Misfits Where Eagles Dare, NOFX Stickin in my eye, Flipper Ha Ha Ha, Green Day Longview, Offspring Bad Habit
I have the same colour p bass. I got it from my late uncle since I was 12. It's a 1973 with the chrome cover on the pick ups. I'm now 55 and I've took great care of it. I've played in a few bad in high-school and college. Great memories. You should try flat windings strings, it sounds good and you won't hear any slipping noises.
I’ve been watching your videos for a while and this is definitely my favorite so far! Definitely inspired me to pick up my p bass. Keep the pick guard you have. Cheers!
My favorite bass line is Guns Of Brixton by The Clash, my first ever bass line, the one that hooked me, is Hey by The Pixies. I play a white Squier Bronco with a maple 🍁 neck and take my JOYO battery 🔋 powered amp along to practice. That whole setup was under 300 bucks but it’s perfect.
Glad to see the minutemen on here, watt had some awesome lines. There are some great live recordings of glory of man where watt is really slapping that thing
Great vid! Great you put some Minutemen in there, some amazing bass stuff by Mike Watt that anyone into bass should check out. I always admired punk bass players like these ones I guess because I just can't really play bass with a pick myself.
Awesome song choices, and an even more stellar bass tone, dude! I was kind of surprised at the lack of Operation Ivy and NOFX, but still a good selection of tunes nonetheless. This is what I listened to throughout elementary, middle, and high school, alongside post-punk and indie.
Some really great choices on here, notably the Stooges, the DK's, and the Talking Heads, but hey--where the heck is "Where Eagles Dare"?! Jerry Only may not be the greatest bassist out there, but that ugly wall of death fuzz roar sound of his was and still is a huge part of the classic Misfits sound. Alongside Glenn's voice, of course, but the bottom line is this; that's one of many songs of theirs that really grabs your attention from the get go, right? If you do a Part 2, see about including that one, maybe?
Yeah, Black Flag bassist Chuck Dukowski is an underrated talent. He wrote some bangers like "Six Pack", "TV Party" and "American Waste". "Down on the farm" by the UK Subs has a great bass intro.
A picked P bass with fresh as hell strings playing punk standards is what I needed today.
Fugazi - Waiting Room is one of my favourite intro’s of all time.
Face to Face - Walk The Walk is another great punk intro
Thanks. I'll check it out :)
@@bloxsy_Cheap Vodka - Acid Bath is from a metal song but the bass intro is very punk
Also, Ha Ha Ha - Flipper is a good punk bass intro
God is a man by face to face is one rocker for sure
Also, if you’re open to pop punk, Longview
@@grungekid1539 don't forget the Matt Riddle era.... the first 3 records, i suggest Velocity off of Big Choice
"Love Buzz" was originally written and recorded by Shocking Blue in 1969, and Nirvana's cover isn't too different from theirs. Great playing!
Kurt gave it an urgency not heard on the original.
The guitar is much more angular too.
love the fact you included stranglers
Dee Dee doin the 1 2 3 4!!!! Is the most punk intro on any bass 😂
Yessss.
So bright sound!
She’s Lost Control by Peter Hook is especially good
I'm getting a bass next month and after watching this I'm excited AF
Bass guitars are fun. Enjoy!
Man, why has it never occurred to me that six pack has such a good bass intro? Weird. I’ve heard it hundreds of times, yet here we are.

Same here!
Journey to the End is such a fun song to play.
As soon as I saw the video title, this one popped into my head
I got to see fIREHOSE live one night in Riverside, CA. Mike Watt was flyin' the flannel and a full beard. It was SO LOUD it was at the threshold of pain. I loved every second of it.

Bro Hymn is such a great anthem song. Guns Of Brixton too. London Calling is one of my all-time favorite albums.
Guns of brixton is such a great song
Matt Freeman is so underrated. Just think how many great bass lines he provided
Psycho killer is an awesome bass line.
Rock on Tina. 😊
I saw this comment and I WAS EAGERLY WAITING for this to come up, was happy to hear it, thank you and im a huge talking heads fan!!! Love it
I never thought much of Tina till I started playing Bass. Mad respect now !!!!!
Where's Choking Victim's 500 Channels?
Waiting Room is like my favorite song right now! I was so happy to see it!
Good choice Skippy
i can say as a bass player these intros are awesome a lot of these lines are what inspired me to start
Mike Watt is such a strange bass player. Every single line he’s ever played would never ever occur to me to play
Great riff collection! One that could be included for your next edition would be MDC's John Wayne.
Absolutely my thought!!!👍🙌✌️
John Wayne was a nazi! 😂
great selection of intros!! some of my favourite bands, favourite songs, favourite intros, favourite bass sounds. thanks!
Thank you very much!

To be fair, most of the people doing that depend on youtube for money. I'm assuming this person has a job outside youtube.
Oh my god, you nailed the attitude perfectly for each song. Great video, as always!
Thanks man
If you ever do a part two to this, consider The Damned "Love Song"
Gonna add Neat Neat Neat since we’re talking about The Damned
This^
To my ears, that's the best punk bass intro of ALL TIME!
Was expecting this to be first..
Algy ward....yeah.
Nice! You included my all-time personal favorite, Journey to the End of the East Bay!
Nice! Im thinking of Where Eagles Dare. I have no idea how to describe early Misfits bass sound but I like it.
That bass sounds so good
I knew Gang of Four had to be in there. All excellent choices here!
Klaus Flouride excellent bassist.
Peaches & Six Pack are my favorite bass lines.
Awesome selection! "Ether" and "She's Lost Control" are both favorites of mine.
Green Day had a bunch but a few underrated ones imo J.A.R. , Stuart & the Ave, and the super epic intro to Panic Song .... also NOFX stickin in my eye
Quality playing and great choice of tunes!
That Squire sounds epic ❤️
Thanks mate
Mike watt is a fantastic bass player his work with Minutemen and FirehOse is iconic
Love all of these, I think Big Black's Deep Six would fit in here nicely
excellent classic P sound!
"Love Song" by The Damned has a great Bass Intro.
Should I swap the pickguard for a black one or leave it as it is?
I always preferred the look of black over tort - so I think you ought to go for it.
Leave it
Leave it
Leave it
Leave it or unsub
Cool!! I know it's not a punk band but "It's so easy" by Guns n' Roses has a great bass intro, and the song itself has a punk vibe. Probably cause Duff McKagan came from that scene back in Seattle
YASSSS finally someone mention GNR! It's so easy, easy, when everybody's trynna please me babyyy! 🤘
Btw how is GNR not a punk band?
@@blackman5867 they came out of the Sunset Strip and the Rainbow and the glam scene... It's a tough sell, but Appetite is regarded as a great album by most people. It has its punk moments. I love it top to bottom
Great selection of tunes, man! Killer playing! That tone, too! *Chef's kiss*
Ross Lomas of GBH rules.
I was scrolling through to hear you bust out the Neat Neat Neat intro here! You’d rock at playing that one sir! Nice picks.
Thank you sir!

I instantly thought of Six Pack when I saw the title and there it was! I always love your song choice 🤘🤘
Enjoyable, thank you. Just for future reference, the most punk rock bass intro is Ain't No Feeble Bastard by Discharge ... it just is. However, Klaus Fluoride's my favourite bassist so you had me smiling right from the start.
Great job man! Saw Black Flag last Sunday...kick ass show!
Nice video man! I'd love to see a video of Minutemen, Descendents, or Osees songs. Keep up the good work.
That is an epic lineup of bass lines! Tony Lombardo is probably my favorite due to the influence he had on future bass players 😎
So stoked you got the minutemen in
Part 2 the Vandals Wanna Be Manor, Suicidal Tendencies I saw your Mommy, Ramones Little Bit O' Soul, Misfits Where Eagles Dare, NOFX Stickin in my eye, Flipper Ha Ha Ha, Green Day Longview, Offspring Bad Habit
wanna Be Manor esp.😂
Six packs bass setting you up for the thudding drums and that screech of the guitar. What a tune

Sounds like you have a nice bass there! I was actually wondering about flat wounds so I might give it a try.

god that tone for holiday in cambodia was spot on, was literally waiting for the guitar and drums to kick in.
Nice job, thank you for this video. Some very cool bass line. I also like "Carousel" from blink-182 in the middle of 90'.
I loved the video. Wanted to add that Vampire State Building by Rudimentary Peni would’ve been a nice inclusion.
It would have been awesome if you had played "Longview" by Green Day and "Neat neat neat" by The Damned.
Nice video though, I liked it a lot.
Thank you. Yeah, those are great bass intros
Except Longview is introduced with drums, not bass
Glad to see the minutemen on here, watt had some awesome lines. There are some great live recordings of glory of man where watt is really slapping that thing
Crass "Containinational Power" is killer, as the slow intro doesn't change over the whole song.
Myage is the first thing I thought of. Nice mix!
Great riffs - i love the stranglers 💯❤️🎸🎶
Surprised to see some Gang of Four love, hell yeah.
The damned- love song is my fave probably
Great vid! Great you put some Minutemen in there, some amazing bass stuff by Mike Watt that anyone into bass should check out. I always admired punk bass players like these ones I guess because I just can't really play bass with a pick myself.
You missed Love Song by The Damned, Bela Lugosi's Dead by Bauhaus and Warhead by UK Subs.
goddamn that bass sounds sick
Stickin' in my eye by NOFX!! And the Rancid split version omg!
It's a nice touch you ended Waiting room intro exactly where it ends in the song
Superb bass tone and excellent bass playing!!!!
Thank you very much!
Great! I was going to snarl at you for omissions, but you finally got to Stranglers and JD How about the crazy opening to No More Heroes?
Warhead by UK Subs was an iconic bass line intro at the time, Public Image by PIL as well. Could go on all day I suppose, there are so many.
Awesome song choices, and an even more stellar bass tone, dude! I was kind of surprised at the lack of Operation Ivy and NOFX, but still a good selection of tunes nonetheless. This is what I listened to throughout elementary, middle, and high school, alongside post-punk and indie.
That is some authentic punk rock bass playing! Well done.

Was waiting for "Aren't You Hungry" by M.O.D. That is the quintessential punk bass intro to me!
Very good! The new Squier P bass sounds very nice too!
Thank you sir. Much appreciated!
You played the first thing that came into my head and you played it first.
Yeah, Black Flag bassist Chuck Dukowski is an underrated talent. He wrote some bangers like "Six Pack", "TV Party" and "American Waste".
"Down on the farm" by the UK Subs has a great bass intro.
Choking Victim - 500 Channels should definitely be on that list
Try 'Peking Spring' by Mission of Burma! Great picks all-round, Minutemen, Gang Of Four, excellent
wonderful tone my guy
I love the bass line to 6 pack
I knew 6 pack would be on here. That was one of the first real punk rock songs I ever heard and to me it's number 1.
Rob Wright of NoMeansNo has the best punk rock bass lines, with the best P bass/Marshall tone at the same time, also while singing.
Nomeansno are unique and robs bass playing is extraordinary. Great shout
new bass? looks awesome man
Yeah thanks dude
Awesome as usual my man. Suggestion for part 2? Keep Hanging On by Husker Du
🤘 Nice pick for the minute men/Firehose I dig 😎👍
Was hoping to see Guns of Brixton in there
Nice profile picture

dope playing! great tone as well🔥🔥🔥 dont forget sticking in my eye - nofx and part III(live) - bad religion 🙏🙏
I love your bass tone!
Thank you!
Glad to see Watt in there. Had a feeling you would
Nice choices. Dave Alexander was like the Stooges' secret weapon
How could you didn't play WALK THE WALK by Face to face man!!! I really was hope for this one.. LOL!! Pretty sounds of this strings man! Congrats!!
Well, it's almost an intro............what about 'Gotta Get away' by Stiff Little Fingers?
Great tone mate. 🤘
Neat neat neat!
The tone on funhouse is great
