    My problem is thinking of the right questions on the fly. My tendency is to jump to "you are wrong". I like your examples in the questions. Enough practice I'll probably get to where I can ask good questions.

      I've found the phrase, "what do you mean by that?" to be a good phrase on the fly. Or, if you want to turn back or away from SE for any reason at the time, NVC can be very helpful to study as well. Particularly the phrase, "are you feeling _____, because _____?" Often the genuine connection with what they're feeling, and an openness toward whatever comes up, can really be helpful for both parties in coming to understand one another more clearly.

      I am in this same boat, kind of; I have a teenager who just always had a natural affinity for asking questions and investigating claims. He naturally cared about how we know things.
      My 7 year old on the other hand *oi vey*
      I would suggest that, depending on your household, you could investigate some things already mentioned, like Santa or the Easter Bunny. Otherwise take a crack at Bigfoot, chupacabra, and other cryptids. Or, and this one has been fun for me, there are a whole bunch of new random claims (stories really) being presented online through youtube and edited videos. Think slenderman, or long horse, or whatever that other one that was freaky but I can't remember the name of 😅
      Do what you can to help your kiddo start asking the questions themselves. I feel like that is where I've made the most progress. I often prompt him with "can you tell me more about that?"
      Also some chapter books that go through any type of investigating, there are worksheets you can download offline and print. My favorite book on this specific subject is "Raising Freethinkers" by Dale McGowan and others.
      Best wishes! You taking the time to think about this and search out information is huge! I feel like that alone guarantees them a solid platform! And keep us updated, yeah? I would love to hear more about your experiences!

    Question on steps 4 and 5: Am I right in understanding that step 4is about their reasons for the belief (why do you belief this?) and step 5 is about their confidence in the reliability of that "why."--that method of determining what is true? So you go from what they believe (the belief claim) to why they believe the claim to be true (which invariably comes down to some form of "faith" because the "evidence" they start with can always be loosened by good questions. And, finally, most importantly to exploring "faith" as a means of knowing what is true.

    • @magnabosco210
      @magnabosco210  2 года назад

      After you establish their reasoning for believing their claim is true to some degree of confidence, it’s time to move onto the epistemology, or in other words, how they assessed the quality of that reason to think it’s capable of supporting their claim to that degree of confidence. Faith is a factor only if they bring it up as core component to their reasoning, to which you can obtain their definition of that word faith and then begin to explore with them how it factors in reaching their conclusion.

    As it turns out this woman's approach becomes more obviously correct as the medical professionals are having to assess just how different the mRNA vaccine works and the adverse effects it is having. The term " informed consent" is a vital part of medical practice which has often been ignored in this roll out. I suggest this is an area that could go very wrong for experimental conversations if vital information is not available.

    The resistance I've brought up to SE is that it's inauthentic. You're not genuinely surprised when you give a long pause or gasp after they say their belief is 100percent. You build a rapport with them but it is not genuine because you don't actually want to know them. Your responses to them are carefully controlled and they are not getting to know who you really are or what you really feel. You learn to act friendly but you are not their friend.

      You are aware he is interacting with people who may not be true in their conversations or whose conversations cannot all be true as not all religions or beliefs can be true? So 'tricks' and techniques may be in order to steer them away from their usual paths of conversation they might have with a non believer to make them actually reflect on what they believe to be true and have never doubted for some reason.
      Techniques may be warranted to bequestion things that were put in place with other ( and maybe less open) techniques.

    I got Covid (Omni) very mild. From the beginning, the stats showed Covid for healthy, young people was generally mild with extremely low death rate. So what’s the big benefit for a young healthy person? Especially a child?
