Caleb was leading a small band of proselytizers (one guy was even wearing a 'Creation Museum' t-shirt) when he approached me with pickup lines right out of the Ray Comfort Living Waters playbook. As much as I tried to explain to Caleb that I wasn't interested in debunking his apologetics, and that I instead wanted to understand how he arrived at his God belief, he had a difficult time setting those aside.
While he kept going back and forth, Caleb eventually admitted that seeing just one contradiction in the Bible would cause him to question his belief. Since Caleb experienced a similar introspective moment after a Muslim challenged him on the death of Jesus Christ, I am considering providing a contradiction related to this alleged event in the Bible.
I noticed that Caleb really wanted to try and engage me on the topic of Evolution, likely because he felt his apologetics in that area was strong. I have to admit that it was tough to resist the temptation to squash Caleb's likely Comfort-inspired arguments against the theory of evolution, particularly in front of his young apprentice Zack, but I wanted to keep the conversation productive and in keeping with Street Epistemology.
Caleb was a very fast talker, which looking back I think added to the overall tension during the discussion.
Coincidentally, I actually had an printed out contradiction in my backpack, but was saving it for Street Preacher Troy, who I had been working with for months and ended up speaking with right after my exchange with Caleb.
