After 45 years of gun purchases, when NICS became a thing 25 years ago, I ALWAYS was delayed with no clue why. I finally received a DENIAL about a month ago and found out they had me down for a "Dishonorable Discharge". I appealed and sent in prints and DD-214 showing "Honorable"...even a preapproval letter from the VA for burial in a National Cemetary...copy of my CCW which has been renewed within the last decade. I've cleared NICS before at least 25 times. My appeal was successful and received a letter with a code for the FFL to submit...the total time was about 30 days from the original date of the appeal. I've now submitted that letter and the old supporting documents again (new prints too!) in hopes to get the UPIN...it's only been a week, so too early for any results on that. I wish that I had applied for the UPIN long ago when getting all the delays...never expected to receive a DENIAL since my record is clean.
The Social Security Number (ssn) used to be quite unique, until "bad guys" started using other people's ssn. Then identity theft became a thing, decreasing the ssn reliability even more. Now, illegal immigrants (yes, they are illegal) are given packages with your ssn as part of their id, so Katie bar the door! I started as a Tax Auditor at Franchise Tax Board (FTB) in California, back in the good ol' days. When someone would use another person's ssn, the computer would append a hyphen and another digit (e.g., my ...5205 would become ...5205-1, ...5205-2, etc.). It was not unusual to have 10 Hispanic names with the same address and ssn filing for a refund!! It got so bad that the FTB computer system now generates a unique number for the "duplicate filers" as they come in using someone else's legitimate ssn. That was just a populous state situation. I can imagine the NICS being swamped and dealing with an enormous number of 4473 and other filings being overwhelmed and struggling.
Took me almost 2 years to get my UPIN. Before I’d have to wait cause I’d get delayed. After getting the UPIN my background clears relatively fast. I think like 5-10 minutes. It was worth it for me.
I got my upon years ago. Took only a few weeks. After I got it, I wasn’t delayed at all for a little while….then boom, delay after delay after delay etc etc etc…. However, I’m never denied and the delay is never more than a few hours. One would think with both my SSN and my upin that I’d never get delayed. Simply not the case.
Signing up for mine tomorrow. I own 50 plus guns and always get a delay. I’m waiting on 10+ stamps for cans. I already have stamps for SBR but the wait always drives me nuts. CCW was sent in like 6+ months ago.
I am not aware of a reason not to do this other than it is kind of a PITA. But it is also not a pre requisite to get denied to apply for a UPIN#. Think of it like using your ss# @ the bank to verify your credit information. There is no mistaking who you are and what your credit history is. If you have a common name or past legal issues, but still qualify to own and purchase a firearm, then this may be a good option for you. Also, it takes approximately 1 year to complete the application process.
Use your upin like a SSN? OUR SSN IS SUPPOSED TO BE UNIQUE TO US TO AVOID CONFUSING US WITH OTHER PEOPLE. if our SSN doesn't work another number given to you by the government isn't going to work either WAKE UP THIS IS GUN CONTROL PURE AND SIMPLE AND YOUR FALLING FOR IT.
I get no delays when buying a gun, but my nfa i get denials because i had an arrest, no charges 15 years ago, no conviction and was never charged. The issue is that there is no disposition tied to the arrest, told me to get a upin, it didnt help…. Always come back as “open”…😊
Just HAPPENED to me today 9/24/2023 !!!! Went to a gun show here in MD, saw a folding 9mm Kel-Tec that took Glock mags brand new for a decent price WITH a $100 factory rebate, decided hmmm... OKAY !!!!!! 4473.... BOOM.....delayed, few minutes after that.....then denied !!!!!!! I've had my UPIN for months already 👀👍My resident MD HGP, HQL, & designated collector status paperwork, for several years. ALSO my non resident FL, UT ( Just received my RENEWED permit with them LAST WEEK 9/13/2023 ) AND my non-res PA ccw permit !!!!! Bought 6 handguns and my 1 AR within the last 2 years !!!! Just bought a new 12g Shotty @Bass Pro 5 months ago USING my UPIN 🤣 Just got done filling out the WHY was I denied APPEAL website page where I put in the NTN #..... Can't WAIT to see the BOLOGNA B/S reason ATF/FBI/NICS comes up with this time with MORE of their NONSENSE 👀🤔😡😡😡😡
My NICS gos through like a hot knife through butter but know I’m trying to get a suppressor and I got a disapproval letter regarding my background check. What is going on?
I'm looking at getting one. I've been having miserable delays on NFA items that have required contacting my congressman to push through the NICS check. My question is about law enforcement taking prints. My local PD on their website have said that they do NOT do fingerprinting. In the past I went to a local digital fingerprinter to make an SBR. Am I still able to do that here? What information do I provide them? The VAF Application form I've filled out? I have no criminal past whatsoever so there's no court documents I need to attach. Thanks for this video guys, this process is confusing.
I’m stuck on a can that paperwork was sent in 16+ months ago. The person at the atf said they are still on the nics bs. I’m waiting on my CCW to get in. But I’m doin the upin tooorrow
@EVIL Co. I have a upin. I thought it would prevent delays. It doesn't I still.get delayed and have even been denied and have to call the fbi and fix the mess they created. The explanation i.got.was it doesn't speed up.approvals or prevent denials it only makes it easier.to.establish your identity. Why that wouldn't prevent denials or.delays is a mystery to me.
@@evilco.8496 what the people that make these videos never explain is that when you fill out the form “online” it’s not an instant approval either since you do have a UPIN so u will and can get a delay still. If they call the background check in ( I know before while on the phone they would say Further review which basically meant a live person was checking ur UPIN#) but after the pandemic I want to say (or I was told) that the people/live person or that Department that would check/further review the UPIN# is no longer doing it. It has been a while since I’ve gone but that’s the last info I was given.
When is there going to be a lawsuit? All these delays are unconstitutional, if their so-called instant system that we are supposed to use is broken, then they need to fix it. I've been delayed 8 months now in Oregon with no end in sight. I don't see how tacking on a bunch of red flag laws are going to help this situation at all.
I've been buying guns my entire life and one day I tried to purchase a shotgun and was for some unknown reason denied. Tried a couple more times for a few years and got the same result, denied. Finally decided to follow the process for appeal. Sent in my fingerprints and received a letter with a UPIN. Never had an issue since then. Guess they had me confused with someone else.
We have been told that they are about 11 months behind on processing requests for UPIN# so you are defiantly in the window for standard processing. if it goes over that I would give then a call. Thanks
I hear you brother, I apply for the vaf six months ago and I just received my upin today.. And yes I did to receive a letter that stated that they ( cjis ) received my request. Give it time, I've heard people they received theirs and took a year. Be patient and you will get your upin! 👋🏼
Gotten delayed twice now in the last couple of years and did some digging. Apparently there's a guy in another state with the same name, height, race, and almost the same weight that has multiple convictions for counterfeiting. So i guess I'm stuck with getting delays now. 😂

But not when trying to exercise a right apparently

You’d think providing a social security number would eliminate any confusion in identifying someone lol
got mine in 2 weeks, and i even did the fingerprints myself
My upin was accepted in less than a week from submittal mid January 23

Does the upin mean that you are cleared to legally have firearms after being accepted?
It took me a Month and a Half . Everything online scanned fingerprints.
Just got it today!
How much was it?
@@poboi3375 no cost, just submit necessary docs
You didn't have to mail physical fingerprints? How?

My question is will I automatically get denied or a delay for not using a upin bc I have a misdemeanor from 30 years ago??

My question is, can you apply for one without having to go through a NICS check, or do you have to be denied first because of a mix-up?
