Many thanks again, Peter, for an instructive trip on what's perhaps become my favourite TS route. I've a favour to asK: The UK rail systems of signalling an urban trackage differ (of course) from those in North America (I live in eastern Canada). Thus, there are little details that can be puzzling to those of us in Canuckistan, but are "ops normal" for native denizens of UK like yourself. One example, which took me a while to figure-out for myself, was a situation where I was toddling-along in a "Stopper" scenario on an "outer" track, whereupon an AI train went swooshing past on an "inner" track. What the heck?, I asked. After a bit of pondering, it seemed logical that the outer tracks were for the slower, "Stopper" trains, and the inner tracks were for express trains Or at least that's what I've guessed. The point is, however, that nobody, yourself included, feels moved to mention such an occurrence because it's so commonplace to you. But to lumpen cretins like me, I'm left unsure of the fundamentals of such a perhaps-simple event. So while I'm not suggesting you verbally document every itty-bitty detail on a route, I'd love to hear either a mention or a confirmation or routine things like platform markers, CCTV cameras, fast tracks, feathers, and other items that those of us on the other side of the Pond never see in real life. Cheers, Peter! -Jon
+Jon Houston Thanks for the comment Jon! I understand your confusion there. I took heed of your comment in my last video on the ECML if I remember rightly and mentioned which lines were which. I will try and remember to do that in future videos :)
Peter, the PC upgrade has given a massive increase in clarity - up to the clarity of the real life train videos in HD on U Tube, even when viewed on a bog standard 25 inch laptop. I can now see the things that you refer as coming up ahead at the time that you say it. Many thanks, Roger Crick
+Roger Crick Thank you Roger! I'm glad you appreciate the changes that have come about as a result of getting the new PC upgrade. The whole game looks far better than it did before with the higher graphics settings I can now use. Many thanks for your comment :)
For your information at the 7 minute mark you are approaching T22 gantry signal. This is a multiple SPAD risk gantry and caution must be shown when approaching it in real life. There are some differences in real life but i'm impressed by this programme. Thanks for posting.
Glad to hear your new setup is performing good. I was experimenting a lot with AA myself, and in the end I ended up going with FXAA + 8 x MSAA, but using NVIDIA's DSR downsampling on top of that, so the game is using a resolution of 2880 x 1620. Looks really great, and performance is pretty good, with very little load stutter as well. I also use SweetFX for a tad more color and sharpness to bring the details out. Loving it!! Thanks for another great video!
+Marshell George (The Growl) Haha, that's basically how I see it. A new menu skin, as nothing much else has changed. Indeed, there's a lot less lag now and I'm planning videos on a number of routes which lagged too much in the past :)
+Tony Lancaster Thank you Tony. It's made a huge difference to both the look and my enjoyment of the game. I hope it does the same for the viewers of these videos :)
Great video there. If you are looking to try other train simulators. I would recommend having a look at BVE5 as it is a freeware Japanese train simulator and the content is very good even though most of the trains are Japanese. But for the next scenario. I would like to see you drive a Class 319 from East Croydon to Brighton with the AP sounds as you can open the cab windows on the Class 319 with the Armstrong Powerhouse sounds as it includes a patch for the train. I like the graphics as they look very life like on your new gaming rig. Ash.
+BritishRail60062 Thanks! :) I will definitely be looking in to doing something with BVE on this channel. I will be doing a 319 scenario in the near future but not quite yet :)
@PTGRail You should consider using NVidias Geforce Experience to record your game - New GTX cards have a dedicated chip built in to handle all recording. This means you get literally Zero FPS drop. It's incredibly good.
+Marshell George (The Growl) Yes I do, I don't use it for TS though as their is no option to disable the cursor showing in the video so I prefer Bandicam for TS.
Nice video, the new computer certainly shows off the graphics very well. On the topic of other railroad related videos, would you be willing to make a video on the basics of SigSim?? I've taken a look at it and it appears very daunting. A 'quick start' guide would be very useful. I'm not much of a documentation reader... :-)
+Eric Grundmann I will give that some consideration. That's actually not a bad idea, so I will see how I might be able to do it and consider making a video like that on Simsig :)
Need to fix the station listing in the description as it has Norwood Junction and East Croydon twice. Your vocal commentary has the correct last two stations (New Cross Gate and London Bridge).
great video again! might I say your new rig is really showing some great improvements! looks very nice indeed, also, are any of your custom scenarios on the workshop? would love to give some a bash! :)
+Rail sim Cab Rides Thank you! I'm glad that you've seen some of the great improvements with this new PC. I'm very happy with it :) Indeed, I have a number of scenarios on Workshop. Some are quite old and were made long before this channel was around, and some are scenarios I specifically created for videos on this channel. Look up PTGRail on Steam Workshop :)
Great video PTGRail ! As always and right now better with your new PC. Is there any chance to share your setup ingame and what AA settings you are using ? As you, I have a GTX980 4 Gb Vram and an old I7 965 @ 3.2 ghz and whished to know how you get these good graphics result and playable TS. As someone said, are you using the DSR feature in Nvidia panel control ? I'm very excited to know how to set up TS for the best graphics and acceptable FPS ... +1 like
+gege212011 Thanks! I am currently using FXAA + 2x2 MSAA. It has barely any effect on the frame rate but makes the game look a whole lot better! One warning though is that if you use the mini map with those settings then you will see some odd graphical glitches just on the map screen itself. This is apparently due to a conflict between the video driver and the game itself. I haven't touched any of the features in the Nvidia control panel. :)
+PTGRail : Thank you very much ! I think you mean FXAA + 2x2 SSAA (no MSAA). Well as you on the 2Dmap I get some erratical glitch with 2x2 SSAA. Right now I reverted to FXAA + 8 x MSAA and unchecked the dynamics lighting cause it blurred or shimmering looks on the catenary wires and also on fences. Waiting as others to fix the Nvidia driver problem for this game I think we can wait for a long time now XD !
gege212011 Lol yes, that's the one I meant! I got confused as there's too many different types of AA in games lol. I've left the game on 2x2 SSAA as I think it looks better and I rarely use the map to see that graphical glitch. I wouldn't personally recommend turning off dynamic lighting as it makes the game look a whole lot worse and removes the shading effects you would normally get. I can't stand driving with that turned off lol.
+William Mankelow Haha, yes I have indeed survived my first couple of weeks at uni. Though I'm already finding it far more challenging than maybe I realised at the start lol XD
I know you're in a spot where every frame per second helps so I suggest you download MSI Afterburner to overclock your video card. I've done so with my own cards and have gained up to 25% in performance. Your card should be able to do 1400 MHz on the core at least. Really worth it in my opnion. On another note: I Like your videos, keep them coming.
+Kareldekorte2 Thanks for the info. I'm currently using the bundled Asus GPU tweak software which came with the graphics card. I'm running at 1411mhz stable :)
+Szymon Gorczynski Szymon, There's the whole Dublin to Cork/limerick route/201/mk3/mk4/DVT/DMU's on Uktrain sim. It's about 3 to 4 years old so beginning to age a little, very detailed for the time, it's free but needs some base routes and freeware to run it.
Certainly looks nicer. I tried doing the North east region to new haven pt1 scenario tonight and all the speed signs were messed up made it impossible to run
+Ho Edwin You will find that the headlight doesn't really illuminate anything and on some variants there is no headlight at all. That's how it was in real life too.
It's the same game with some minor menu changes. There's no new features to speak of other than rail fan mode and steam driver assist on the routes which come with TS2016. Other than that, it's more a name change than anything else lol.

Well done Peter you can see the diffarance with the new computer
+Tony Lancaster Thank you Tony. It's made a huge difference to both the look and my enjoyment of the game. I hope it does the same for the viewers of these videos :)
Congratulations on getting your new PC PTGRail, I know just how upgrading my PC made a massive difference to how much enjoyment I got from Train Sim.

+Szymon Gorczynski
Szymon,
There's the whole Dublin to Cork/limerick route/201/mk3/mk4/DVT/DMU's on Uktrain sim. It's about 3 to 4 years old so beginning to age a little, very detailed for the time, it's free but needs some base routes and freeware to run it.
+2c a communication Thanks! I'll have a look.
great video. what graphics card, processor and ram did you previously have?
+George Browning Thanks. Previously I had an AMD Phenom II X6 3.2ghz processor with 8gb RAM and a 2gb AMD Radeon HD 6970 graphics card :)
Now that you have a new PC, have you considered uploading in 60fps?
+BMWM3GTRLOVER Unfortunately, most routes don't run at 60fps especially when recording so at present I'm not able to.
Certainly looks nicer. I tried doing the North east region to new haven pt1 scenario tonight and all the speed signs were messed up made it impossible to run
+Steve Austin I'm going to be covering that route very soon so we'll see how it goes. I hope my video might help with that :)
Dude you need more subscribers so im a new sub
Thanks! :)
@@PTGRail it's ok
You could start using Simutrans or OpenTTD, I am trying to make a game like that myself at the moment - you can see stuff on my channel about it
Are you ever going to do the Class 360 ?????????
What's the line on the over bridge before Brockley?
+70humdinger I believe that is the Chatham main line from Victoria :)
How do you manage to get yourself in a position where you can see out of both the window and your controls?
+Paul Stride I changed the FOV. I made a short video on how to do that here: ruclips.net/video/PwWd1gVhT9U/видео.html
Is class 421 and 423 have dynamic lighting? I find it is dark to drive in the night.
+Ho Edwin You will find that the headlight doesn't really illuminate anything and on some variants there is no headlight at all. That's how it was in real life too.
Have you done any video's of the London Underground sim?
+Sion Lewis Not yet, but I am considering it in the future :)
You didn't mention that this is the new version of TS (2016). Any key differences from TS 2015?
It's the same game with some minor menu changes. There's no new features to speak of other than rail fan mode and steam driver assist on the routes which come with TS2016. Other than that, it's more a name change than anything else lol.
So the destination board only works for the Class 456 ap?
+TCDAM Mania You can only do it yourself when driving in the AP Class 456. I think you can set the destination board for the default Class 456 in the scenario editor.

Hi,
Mr Picky again!
Despite you mentioning it during the introduction you forgot to put the reverser into neutral the entire journey which would prevent you from removing your hand from the "Power Handle" as this is the DSD. You also failed to operate the DRA at the last red aspect before requesting a SPAD, (Rules regarding "Detention of Trains on Running Lines" refer.). Is TPWS in operation on this route?
I will be very surprised if you reply to this comment but please take note as you are unintentionally misinforming your subscribers, of which I am one.
Well hello again, Mr Picky! Yes I did forget to use the DRA as I sometimes do, but alas I'm not a real train driver and can't be expected to get everything perfect. And no, TPWS isn't active on this route.
Finally, I'm happy to reply to yours or anyone else's comments offering constructive criticism as I've always said. What I won't reply to is comments being critical for the sake of it.
+PTGRail Hi,
Thanks for the response and I stand corrected on the DSD. I understand that you are not a real train driver but in the interest of realism operating the DRA would add that little bit of credence to your videos.
I apologise for being too picky but unfortunately it is the OCD in me, plus the fact I was a train driver in real life.
I really do enjoy your videos. They are informative and I have chosen routes and loco/trains that I used to drive in reality. I can assure you I do not watch them with the intention of pointing out any errors.
Once again thank you for responding.
