I really like the crossovers between the characters in rusty lake hotel and in this game- David (the younger brother) is always seen smiling and often does jokes or similar things, in hotel he is a magician and is killed in a both slightly humorous and possibly self inflicted way. I think that is because he is one of the two more sympathetic family members, at least because he grew up alongside Jakob and has been indoctrinated from birth. Nicholas (the father) is the main catalyst behind the burning of both Caroline and Jakob for the ritual. He is the one who dies first in hotel, and his task involves making him a drink with blood in it similarly to his first wish in this game. He is killed by Harvey in a non self inflicted way to symbolize his lack of regret for his actions (?) Margaret (the grandmother) is the oldest person there and it is unknown whether she began the idea of the rituals and cult like activities or if she is just complacent with Nicholas’s actions. I also am not sure but I don’t think it’s mentioned whether she is Caroline’s mother or Nicholas’s mother. Either way, I think her death in hotel is symbolic of her allowing her child to suffer/become a killer, which leads to her death in the end. I think it fits more symbolically if she is Caroline’s mother but that might be unrealistic considering she didn’t seem to have any qualms about Caroline being burnt at the stake. She is also less sympathetic and her death reflects that. Gerard (uncle) probably has the most crossover in appearance, demeanor, and actions. He asks for a sandwich in the same way that mr boar does and also has a scene where you must give him toilet paper and later remove feces from his toilet, although he isn’t forced to eat it. Not connected but he gets his ear removed by Elisabeth which might be a callback to Arles? He too is unsympathetic, probably the most after Nicholas. Elisabeth (sister) might have the most interesting and deep connection to her character of mrs pheasant in hotel. She doesn’t get that much characterization in paradise, but I think because of hotel she might be the most sympathetic of the family members who end up dying in hotel. She is the only animal that directly commits suicide with little help from Harvey, and a lot of her room seems more like she’s setting up to do it rather than being unaware of what will happen. It’s possible that she was startled by the flash and shot herself by accident but it isn’t known if she is blind in hotel as well. I think that she might feel regret at what she did in paradise and killed herself voluntarily. She also has the most visually focused task in hotel which is ironic due to her disability. I think these might be just a few of the connections between the characters.
Honestly, I was expecting to know less at the end than I did at the start, but this was actually rather straightforward story-wise within the lore and timeline. Like, I didn't piece together that Jakob's family were the guests in Rusty Lake Hotel until John pointed it out, but the fact that he's Mr Owl and wants them all killed makes sense now - for the murder of both him and his mother (and funnily enough, they both died by fire). Adding the Plagues of Egypt as a theme was pretty brilliant and enjoyable, whether or not you're familiar with it or not. Honestly, I'm just surprised at how comprehensible this is compared to Cube Escape: The Cave, which I'm STILL not sure what quite happened or why with Dale and William/The Lady and shit lmao
The woman's name is Laura. (That's the name Rose gave her when she gave birth to her, because she did know that Laura was actually William's soul, but are you really gonna call your baby girl William for the rest of her life?)

Hannahmochi That's a pretty awesome reward! I had no idea. Aside from the streamers/youtubers, I figured it was just the dev team and maybe their family/friends.
I'd just like to point out a possible significance of the character's name you play, Jakob. In the Bible, Jacob is the son of Isaac, who was the son of Abraham. God tested Abraham by telling him to sacrifice his only son Isaac. Abraham painfully obeyed, but God of course stopped him from actually killing his son when he proved his obedience. I'll also add that Jacob in the Bible was also notorious for his cleverness. He was able to trick both his brother and father into giving him birthright and blessing as a first born, even though he wasn't the first born. Much like how Jakob here eventually tricks his family, and is portrayed by an owl that symbolizes cleverness. I just thought that might tie in with the theme of familial sacrifice and Biblical plague references.
@@rafaelpeixoto7371 No, pretty sure it's just Jakob. I think his mother's soul was just a really important part of the elixir. (One will find death; the other, enlightenment.)

I have a few words to say. In roots, as you know, in the bonus chapter william makes the elixir from harvey’s egg. In seasons, when you break the harvey’s egg, you take a black cube. Also in case 23 chapter 2, If you give Laura the egg (it is similar to harvey’s egg) she gives you a white cube. As we understand, harvey’s egg symbolizes “memory”. This is why Laura called harvey’s egg “where it all began” at paradox. And this is how Caroline made the elixir from her memories and made Jakob become immortal.

john, please post full length videos of you building legos with no speed ups and just call it "lego thoughts" where you say anything that comes to mind, and whenever you go silent, we just get to hear legos being satisfyingly placed together.
While I did watch your last Rusty Lake playthrough, I haven't seen all the Rusty Lake Games, so I didn't completely understand all the cool reveals and stuff, but this game still seems really cool! The art style is unique and the atmosphere is so mysterious, I like it! And thanks for explaining some of the story bits, that was pretty helpful
John, you missed Harvey on 19:10! If you place orange flower on that plate and leave the screen, Harvey will appear when you return. You can take back that orange flower afterwards to continue the story.
Yeah, I noticed that while playing myself. It became really helpful when I decided to try speedrunning the game, because that puzzle is just a huge waste of time and you need to know to ignore it.
Um...actually it's called a One Worm Fruit, or Fisherman's Lure Fruit, or Eight Stroke Machete Fruit, because it often has one worm in it, which is traditionally harvested with a machete in 8 strokes and then gifted to a stranger in the hopes of a reciprocal crawdad. Crawdads are often colloquially referred to as Shrimpdads or Lobstersons.
I love this game, So magical and clever. I love how everything is connecting. More so, I love watching John's reactions to things like when the uncle swallowed the key. It's nice see in enjoy himself and its see how chuffed he gets when he works out the puzzles, I can see just by watching how fustrating some can be. I know I would never be good at any of these games, even thought they are the kind of games I love, I'm not clever enough to work some of them out. So I'm thankful John has showed me these games so I can experience them.
In the memory where the family was standing around with animal masks or whatever (I think it was the blood plague I don't remember I'm already way past that part in the video) they were all the animals from Rusty Lake Hotel I am not done watching the video I'm only 30 minutes in but my guess is that this family performed a sacrifice and knew it was wrong and they went to the Hotel as guests and allowed themselves to be killed for what they did. Or maybe they willingly allowed themselves to also be sacrificed for some greater purpose
I love this series so much I can't even. thank you for (finally) playing it and a 2 hour video!! what an absolute blessing. can't wait for the next installment, but I guess I'll be marathoning everything again before that comes out :'D

John doing all of the zodiac puzzles is hilarious. Also how they connect all the games together is amazing in my opinion.
john, please post full length videos of you building legos with no speed ups and just call it "lego thoughts" where you say anything that comes to mind, and whenever you go silent, we just get to hear legos being satisfyingly placed together.
John was mistaken - that wasn't the crab (♋ Cancer). It was the scorpion (♏ Scorpio)
1:28:03 John briefly turns into a dog.
Literally all my favorite youtubers posted today... but this video. I'm so excited I could cry.
the zodiac part almost killed me XD
I mean, he thought Leo was a swan.... A SWAN!
Where’s nightcry part 2? I need to see you suffer through its amazing quality
he should play Getting Over It then
he said its coming this week
@@alexcollins8010if you wanna see that I think he made some videos on that back in January
I was going to watch The Cat Returns but it will have to wait. The next chapter of Rusty Lake is here!!!!
I love how every time John figures out how to do a puzzle, he says "Nooooo…"
"You know what, you are gross and I'm leaving!" I wish I could say that to ppl too xD
I get legit excited about these games. Something about your videos in this series is oddly entrancing.
YES. RUSTY LAKE VIDEO BY JOHN.
NIGHT COMPLETE.
10/10
John, you missed Harvey on 19:10! If you place orange flower on that plate and leave the screen, Harvey will appear when you return. You can take back that orange flower afterwards to continue the story.
i wish i had *eyebrows* A WORM
this single handedly cured my depression thank u john
Giant flying man-heartsucking-monster:
John seeing the hiding family members: what the hell are you doing there, get out!
"I want... a thermometer. A pregnancy test? Preparation age?" 😂
Preparation H is a type of medication
Did anyone notice that the shovel is never used in the fourth plague?
Well, don't you need it to dig up the box on the shore?
Oh never mind wrong one
Yeah, I noticed that while playing myself. It became really helpful when I decided to try speedrunning the game, because that puzzle is just a huge waste of time and you need to know to ignore it.
*solves puzzle* "...What's going on?"
Literally me for every one of these games, but they're fun to watch anyway!
As a Libra, I will now officially be identifying as "JUDGEMENT!!" A la John Wolfe.
Messed up theory:
Jakob's grandma said, "Go find your brother." Maybe in hopes that David would kill him
Two hours!!, jeez it's 3 Am here. I guess i won't be sleeping tonight xD
Noga JA ecks dee
Who needs sleep when you have John videos to watch.
Same for.me, but damn worth it!
I'm so glad to see you playing more from Rusty Lake! Thank you very much for another wonderful video, they always make my days that much better.
In a world of Rusty Lake point-and-click logic, I'm surprised that real-ass hoop cheese was the answer to the "how do cheese" puzzle.
I like how the dude is smiling while puking up frogs and droping them in his pants
John's "Oh no" when he was doing the third puzzle of the stars made me soft xD,he's so adorable! Good video
Hey John, I found your channel by accident and I love your content and all your vedios are fun to listen to.
In the memory where the family was standing around with animal masks or whatever (I think it was the blood plague I don't remember I'm already way past that part in the video) they were all the animals from Rusty Lake Hotel
I am not done watching the video I'm only 30 minutes in but my guess is that this family performed a sacrifice and knew it was wrong and they went to the Hotel as guests and allowed themselves to be killed for what they did. Or maybe they willingly allowed themselves to also be sacrificed for some greater purpose
I've loved this series for a while. I'm just so glad John is hopefully introducing new people to it as well. 😊
Johns posts always put a smile on my face. :)
I love this series so much I can't even. thank you for (finally) playing it and a 2 hour video!! what an absolute blessing. can't wait for the next installment, but I guess I'll be marathoning everything again before that comes out :'D
2 hours? Yessss, time to grab some popcorn.
thank you putting the story together through all of these. it really makes the experience more enjoyable!
