It's always the one I have seen the merit in. Musically interesting and sometimes with a touch of Zappa.. Something Kiss related I can actually listen to all the way through without feeling the need to throw something at it.. FYI I'm not a Kiss fan at all.. tired glam rock that should have been forgotten in the 70's IMHO but hey.. whatever.

Man, I love that video. You explain your points clearly and they make sense whether we agree or not. I've been a Kiss fan since around 1990 and I side with you on some of these. I have no problems with ''Beth 2'' (Psycho Circus was definitely trying to be Destroyer 2) and Odyssey really sounds like Paul was vocally prepping for The Phantom but I still like it. I remember hating Do you love me for a while but came around when Unplugged came out. My list would probably have Love em Leave em (don't care for it) and Love is like a slap in the face ( I think Hot in the shade would be a better album if Love is like a slap in the face, Read my body and maybe two others weren't on it.) Nice video man, I just suscribed.

I think I may make a similar video to this, it would be interesting to try to really pick ten least favorites on purpose. The Elder is the Destroyer album - Part II on steroids. Great Expectations and Beth were loaded with orchestral sounds etc...
The Elder has a speed metal song "The Oath" -- heavy heavy haunted song "Under the Rose" -- a super awesome, typical Ace Frehley song "Dark Light" --- and on and on --- you're assessment is way off.

    • @turnsufficient4971

The Elder album is phenomenal - KISS blew it by putting out two crappy disco albums in a row and lost lots of fans. They make an album of phenomenally structured and written music and it b ombs, bc they lost so many fans - most didn't give it a chance. It was the last KISS I ever bought, bc they hit their music pinnacle and they couldn't top The Elder - and haven't surpassed it yet.

I never take the lyrics too seriously in any Kiss song, and turned up loud it kind of gives me a Love it Loud feeling. The other 9 are songs I skip when playing an album.... Well, maybe with the exception of The Odyssey. I rarely play the Elder, but usually play it straight through when I do.

I can agree with you on songs like Odyssey, I Finally Found My Way, Read My Body, and Murder In High Heels. I do love Boomerang (I can agree about the production tho) and Gimme More. Nothing Can Keep Me From You was a good song tho definitely had no place on the DRC soundtrack but it’d have been a good Box Set new track. I even like Love’s A Deadly Weapon tho not my favorite on Asylum (I admit I do prefer it over Uh! All Night). I admit I used to hate Cadillac Dreams, but I actually really like it now.
I don’t have a top 10 least favorite KISS songs, but if I did, it would include most of the songs on Monster, Great Expectations, Then She Kissed Me, Torpedo Girl, Just A Boy (and Odyssey), Lonely Is The Hunter, Bang Bang You, Good Girl Gone Bad, Let’s Put The X In Sex, and We Are One.
I was never a big fan of All Hell’s Breaking Loose. I know it’s kinda an 80s fan favorite, but it always annoyed me except for the chorus, especially because I thought A Million To One would have made a much stronger single/video.

You picked a bunch of songs/albums that I don't know. I'm an older dude and, like you said, you didn't choose any songs from the 70's. I did have the album Animalize on a tape that died years ago. When I decided to replace it, I only bought digital copies of the two songs from that album that I like. In general, while I like him as a musician, I'm not a big fan of songs that Ace Frehley wrote. One of my least favorite Kiss songs is "Save Your Love" from Dynasty.

I bailed on KISS after Unmasked. When the only thing left for credibility with them was soon leaving with Ace Frehley. I was around 12/13.
    1. Simmons had been dialing it in since at least 1975's Dressed To Kill. You can't beat what he contributes to KISS and Hotter Than Hell. In fact, if Hotter Than Hell had been recorded and mixed like Dressed To Kill OR KISS, I'd consider it the best album they ever put out. Everyone's contributing gold, Simmons, Stanley and Frehley are all giving good to great songs on Hotter Than Hell. There's no dropoff. Then you get to Dressed To Kill. This is where Paul Stanley has to pick up the slack when Simmons or Frehley don't have material that's beyond "Filler." And unfortunately Paul Stanley writes a lot of filler. "Love Her All I Can" is gold. "Rock Bottom" is great. Everything else he wrote on the album, is just kinda eh. But Simmons, beyond "She", isn't writing anything worthy of "Deuce" or "Watchin' You" here. And Frehley's "Getaway" is probably the Frehley song that rarely gets mentioned. The Criss vocal is great (he should have been their main singer) and the solo kicks ass, but the song is no Parasite, or Cold Gin, or Rocket Ride. Simmons started dialing it in on Dressed To Kill. On Destroyer he sets out to prove he's "more than just a tongue" (which he tried to prove again on his solo album. I personally call him a "sleazy genius". There's a guy there that has a lot of songwriting talent beyond his "image." But ... he can't escape that image.) Everything after Destroyer, is Gene just raking in the spoils (but they did work seriously hard to get where they wanted to go). Sometimes you'll get an Almost Human. Or a Christine Sixteen. Or a Calling Dr. Love. Maybe even Love 'Em and Leave 'Em. But the rest is just ... yeah. Dialed in.
    2. Since I bailed in 1980, a lot of these albums I haven't heard. Not even "I Love It Loud" made me go back to them. But I did pick up, just out of curiousity, Animalize and Asylum. I thought "Heaven's On Fire" was alright. "Get All You Can Take" was kinda cool. "Tears Are Falling" was ok too, but there were just bands that were doing stuff like it, that were better. But I'm glad your list seemed almost entirely made up of post Ace Frehley KISS. I never bought The Elder, and I've listened to it. I won't be buying The Elder.

Forever, Let's put the x in sex, and most everything after Animalize. Genes material on Animalize was pretty terrible though.
I LOVE the 'lick it up' album but I kind of agree with "Gimme More".
From classic KISS I'd have to say 'She', and 'Cold Gin' are both just plodding and really booooring. Similar for 'Firehouse'. I could live without hearing those three songs again.
I LOVE 'Dance all over your face'. It's probably kind of a terrible song, but it was part of my first kiss experience as lick it up with my first album. I love that stupid song!

My least favorite songs or songs I just don't understand by KISS
    1. Christine Sixteen (the fact its about a older man lusting over a minor makes my throat close up)
    2. Mainline (sorry but Peter's voice isn't as good as Ace, Paul nor Gene)
    3. Rock N' All Night (just overheard this song too many times that the radio needs to play songs from Destroyer or Hotter Than Hell)
    4. Beth (do I need to explain that there's Shandi, and Forever?!)
And thats about it I am sure there was a few songs from Revenge but I love Revenge (Unholy, I Just Wanna, Heart of Chrome, Paralyzed, Thou Shall Not, and my personal favorite Domino) i just haven't listened to all KISS's work but a great bunch.

  • @scottcayouette6829

I have to agree their 70's era wok was far superior. Even their filler back then was better than 90% of what they have produced without Ace. And the arguing in the studio to reach the level of quality they had in the 70's is gone as the others in the band have little say in anything.
Just look at the solo work Freddie Mercury did without the band arguing with him about the songs compared to an Queen record. The point here is the same. Original members demand a say, hired musicians keep quiet. As such quality tanks every time.

my ten worse KISS songs are:
All for the Love of Rock & Roll - a song about getting someone to commit adultery. sounds casual and playful but the subject matter is not.
Goin Blind - drags on too long and horribly out of place on the album
Murder in High Heels - a horrible closer for this album. The album definitely needed a good "do ya love me" closer from Paul instead.
Lonely is the Hunter - boring filler song from Gene
Seduction of the Innocent - reminds me of Gene's solo albums
Eat your Heart Out - lyrics leave little imagination what the song is really about, isn't "brilliantly done", and title doesn't fit well.
Freak - song is a bit of a chore to get through
Cadillac Dreams, Love's a Slap in the Face, Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell - more boring filler Gene songs
