it's currently my favorite song to play on guitar, the chords and riffs, the lead, all so cool and fun to play and there's all these parts I look forward to and trying to get just right.
Your number one is KISS’s best song that nobody (other than real KISS fans) knows about. I thought “The Oath” would make the list. The best bass line of any KISS song has to be “Torpedo Girl” off Unmasked.
I don't understand how Aces solo on strange ways isn't one of the most renowned guitar solos in rock history. Hotter than hell album, last song strange ways, the heaviest guitar solo I've ever heard in my life still to this day!
Dude, I think the same thing all the time. It was The most "Space Ace" solo there was, in fact its the only solo I can think of where he uses heavy sound effects. It would have been really interesting to see what would have happened if he had played around with way more trippy sound effects during his carrier, making Ace more "Spacey"
Great album. The best of the first three studio albums for sure. Strangely so since it sorta has all the B-list songs on it. But they got the attitude right on that one. And the beginning of that solo... man, is he hungry! I also really dig his solos on Going Blind and All The Way.
Frehley is why I play guitar. I was born early 90s so I got into KISS in the mid 00's and was blown away. My only tattoo is an outline of Ace's makeup. I've seen KISS 3 times and Ace's solo gig twice. I was a few feet from Tommy during most of the last time I saw KISS.
Been a KISS fan since 1977 when I was 10 years old!!! There are so many gems on those original early albums! And so much good stuff throughout the years. They definitely stand the test of time. THE HOTTEST BAND IN THE WORLD! KISS!!!!!! 💥💥💥💥💥
I think the reason is: It’s not truly a “KISS” song. If you listen to it, it’s very Rolling Stones-ish. I like the song, I just think it sticks out as sort of odd for KISS.
Ace Frehley is, and will always be my favorite lead guitarist. Beyond just being another lead guitarist. The man is the living definition of a rock star. He did it his way, no apologies, no fux given
I'll be 59 next month, and watching your videos reminds me of songs that I still listen today back then they really played music and not the rap crap that doesn't even qualify as music and KISS were the first band I saw live. I wish I would have kept all my ticket stubs and put them in a book, so I could have seen how many concerts I've seen.
So many great riffs and catchy songs. They never got enough credit and definitely not enough airplay. So much more to them than Rock N Roll All Nite & Detroit Rock City. MR Speed my favorite Kiss track of all time. Seen them over 20 times and never heard them play it live. Glad he recognized it. well done.
She & Love her All I Can were originally on the Wicked Lester album,,but for Dressed To Kill they were short on new material,so they stripped those tunes down to the meat and potatos,,and still sound awesome to this day.Tonight You Belong To Me is probably the most powerful song on all 4 of the solo albums.
nicely done!! The tone your getting on your guitar is perfect. Love the way your getting that Ace bend to get that signature sound only he was able to do back in the day. Cheers!!
"Rock'n'Roll Over" has most of my favourite guitar riffs and sounds, 'Makin' Love', 'I Stole your Love', 'Baby Driver' and 'I Want You!', yeah. "She" and definitely "Rocket Ride", even played on one Guitar these riffs are awesome, crunchy and melodic and exciting!
It's sad that so many people disparage Kiss just because they aren't virtuoso musicians. Now, it's true that they are far from being virtuosos, but the thing is: _you don't have to be a virtuoso to create great music._ How I would have loved to have an iota of their creativity to come up with such great riffs (I'm a professional bass player). I stopped being a die-hard fan many years ago (still love them and have their entire official discography minus unnecessary compilations), but they were a true (and the biggest) obsession for me during the first half of my adolescence. After 40+ years, "Alive!" is still one of my top two live rock albums. Words aren't enough to describe what I felt the first time I heard it.
Look at the cast of virtuosos out there. They don't usually make catchy riffs. They make music to complicated for mass appeal. That's cool but music you can hum and sing along to with a catchy chorus is what people gravitate towards. Kiss had really catchy songs and they aren't overly complicated.....and they are fun which you get zero of these days aside from Steel Panther....who are awesome by the way.
Rocket ride, and Shock me were the best songs Ace performed as Kiss "corporation" songs. Aces solo album was full of hits. Ace and Peter Criss were the rockers in Kiss, when Ace left or was fired? he took all the magic with him. I remember Ace in a good way, hopefully their is another reunion of Kiss. Ace needs to decline the invitation, no need to see him thrown under the bus another time.
I started subscribing a few months back, and was watching a few months before that. DUDE, YOU ROCK! (From another dad, probably about same age), not only fantastic guitar skills, but you also pick great songs and riffs to cover! I’m now go and listen to Dressed to Kill, some classic KISS songs there that aren’t the ones you normally hear. Thanks for the KILLER content!!
Omg! You're my, mate! All of these are some of my faves! Been a KISS fan since I was 8 years old. I'm 56 now. I Stole Your Love, is my all time fave Kiss song!
Ace! The man that started my love of guitar! I must have watched Kiss meets the phantom of the park about 100 times on our Betamax! (recorded from TV with commercials)
You did a great job 👍. Mr Speed is my favorite guitar riff also! I played drums and have played tons of KISS. They've been my favorite band since I was 5 years old in 1977. I always thought it would be cool to have a band that played nothing but kiss songs. Unfortunately I haven't found anybody else with the same passion for it as myself.
Your guitar tone is AWESOME!! I've watched countless videos highlighting Ace's guitar riffs. Of course some people do a better job playing them than others. You did an OUTSTANDING job! Definitely one of the best I have seen/ heard. Well done!!
Just saw KISS live at ITink Palm Beach Florida. Effin EPIC!!! My first concert was Kisss 1979. This really brought me back. The people around me must have thought I was crazy ... or posessed. Lol. Anyway I own a music store, and loved this content. I did really miss Ace and Peter... Just not quite the same.
My very first album I ever owned was Rock and Roll Over when I was eight. And the very first guitar solo that I ever heard and loved was from 'I Want You' from the same album. And yes, Mr. Speed is a great riff as well!
I love all the comments that begin..."I'm not really a Kiss fan, but....." They sound like closet Kiss fan comments. :D Great video Metal Dad. I'm 58, I grew up listening to all this stuff. My band as a teen and still to this day is Led Zeppelin, but I still loved those Kiss songs too. Keep on rockin'
Mate are the epitome of cool, just so laid back sitting there belting out great riffs, I wish my dad would have been like you then I would be able to play the les Paul I have, but can only drum (which I like too), keep rocking my man you have a new fan
Completely retired (finally) and taking guitar lessons at 56. My instructor asked me what kind of guitar would I like if money wasn’t an option. Without blinking, I replied, “Gibson, Les Paul”! In the 70s, I had a poster of Ace. Hey laughed, and confided that KISS was the reason he took up guitar!
Top 10 Gene Simmons songs 1. Deuce 2. Watchin' You 3.She 4.God Of Thunder 5.Sweet Pain 6.Dr. Love 7. I Love It Loud 8. Young and Wasted 9. Not For The Innocent 10 Unholy
When I was a kid in 1977, I figured somewhere on Earth was a bigger KISS fan than me, but I never would have imagined how much of a bigger fan he was than I. I salute you.
Dude , I couldn't of picked a better list myself !! And thank God you put Mr. Speed #1 ! And you put in a lot of great oldies Love her all I can , She , Parasite , you sir are a true KISS fan and you know your music !!
You awesome! I’m a big kiss fan since I was a kid. My first album I ever bought was kiss alive and I wore it out!! I love your playing and style! I have a epi les Paul, and I wish I could play those riffs as good as you!! Especially in a recliner lol keep rockin!!
Thanks ! I remember all these riffes and songs. It was a Real fan ! As the matter of fact, I've learned to play guitar with Kiss' partitions. Thanks for this Great moment !
The Kulick brothers are so overlooked by most people. Their body of work goes unnoticed, especially Bob. Rock n Roll Over will always be special to me. My grandmother accidentally bought it for me when I was 5 in 76.
I ended up watching 3 hours of live KISS concerts after this. Thank you for reminding me of how awesome they are as human beings and rock and roll legends
Your Welcome👍 No BS either!! I am pretty sick they just found a big tumor in my kidney. I’ve been losing 2-4 units of blood a week. I have been taking my headphones and rocking to your channel. While getting transfusions. Your riffs are so many of my favorites it’s crazy.
Kiss fan here. Nice Job! Personally, I'd drop some of the solo record stuff for Cold Gin, I Stole Your Love, or Nothing To Lose, buts that's just me. It's all good!
I like late era kiss too. There's a bunch of great songs on revenge, hot in the shade, and I grew up a grunge kid who'd been listening to kiss since 8. But I love carnival of souls. Good picks here in the ace era for sure.
Really cool selection man! - Epic to watch and hear! - KISS is one of my all-time favorite bands, and I have infact recorded a version myself of "War Machine" on wich I play all the instruments and ('blushes') (try to) sing as well :D - However - keep these great videos comin' Metal Dad! - KK from Norway
Growing up in Ohio I was surrounded by Hee Haw and country music I would spend the summers in Rhode Island with my cousins and they would be listening to Kiss and Alice Cooper they played Cold Gin and I was totally blown away
Bro, I'm from wagon-wheel, boot-scootin, podunk HEE-HAW LAND!(Nashville)😅 Am 51, & proud to say, I actually fell in love with Kiss' music before really seeing them in late '70's! Had gotten into my mom's Beatles collection, which unfortunately abruptly ended with Help!, since got married & had my older sis. My dad knew I liked them & came home 1 day & said he had somebody give him an 8-Track at work, he listened to it on way home, didn't like, said I could have & handed me a copy of Love Gun. So I of course saw the cover, but just thought was cool album art. The heaviest thing I'd ever heard at that point was the song Help!. So when popped in 8-Track, I Stole Your Love was like hearing Slayer Reign In Blood when came out! It's a trip to think I would've been 6 yro, but had to be when came out, cause remember getting parents to buy me Dynasty when came out & wanted to go see them, but folks said was sold-out. Peter was my fave at time & I remember when announced in paper had the pic with monkey heads on his shouders. I'm sure it sold-out, but I tend to think they just told me that cause didn't wanna take me. Clips from Sunday newspaper should still be in the attic somewhere? Should also be clips, which prob be worth some money (actually may very well be archived on-line from The Tennessean these days?), when finally got to see them the 1st time Creatures tour '83 announcing the Sunday before show that Ace had left the band & been replaced by a one, "Vinnie Whiz"! Rock On, hillbilly mofos! 🤟😝❤
Excellent Dad, I think is a good idea to tell fans that Kiss always tune down a half step to match with the records. I remember when I started playing along with the Kiss records (Dressed to Kill, Destroyer and Love Gun) thinking: "this is weird, they use flats and sharps tones..." Congratulations. By the way I'm going to get me one of those couch armchairs.
People avoid I Stole Your Love as it's an 'interpretation' of the Burn 🔥 riff by virtuoso Deep Purple & Rainbow guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. I love them both. Burn by Blackmore is considered THE best ever rocknrroll riff. Check out the live version at the '74 California Jam. Masterpiece! 👌
Muy buena selección de covers, una maquina metal dad,a la hora de tocar guitarra, que padre que fue de las primeras generaciones que disfrutaron a kiss en su prime, buuen video, saludos desde méxico.👍🙏✋✌🎸
Rip it out was definitely the best song out of any solo album IMO. One of my favorite songs to play on guitar as well 🤘🤘 however as far as the 80s go, a million to one, is one of my favorites as well.
Hi Metal Dad. You fucking RULE!!!!!! Thanks for the great video and I agree some of the most Riffs you favorite. Greetings from an old Kiss fan (at the time from 73-78) from Germany.
Always been a huge kiss fan. I've been to 10 kiss concerts and my last ones were the reunion tour and the farewell tour. And as far as ever going to the end of the road tour that is not going to happen only if Ace and Peter were there. I'm sure Peter don't have it like it used to because he is getting old to keep up on the drums but I'm sure he would give it one hell of a try. I started listening to kiss when I was 16 and 61 now and still jamming with kiss.
Those are some amazing riffs! But like you said there's tons more that are awesome as well. Right at the end I thought you were going to go for I stole your love. two and three are definitely two of my favorites as well. Anyway about to run through my Kiss playlist, I've been inspired!
I was inspired to pick up the guitar by Ace Frehley in 1977 when I was 5. My favorite riff is "Shock Me", and that's also my favorite Ace solo as well. I gotta say though, "Mr. Speed" is right up there too. My mom is a musician also, and when I was 9, I walked home from school, and as I approached the house, my mom was playing her acoustic guitar on the porch. As I got closer and heard what she was playing, I discovered at that moment my mom had been listening to my KISS records. She was playing "Hard Luck Woman" from Rock and Roll Over.
Really enjoyed this video, had fun watching you playing the riffs, as well as admiring the tone of the Les Paul you used. Could you please share the amp settings?
I gotta say, Unholy, Shock Me, I Stole Your Love, and Cold Gin have some of the coolest riffs I've ever heard. Some of my absolute favorites. Much respect on including Mr. Speed in your list! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Ace was/is always been my favorite, even before I knew anything about them. I've seen them many times live, in 1977, 1978,1979, 1980 and the later for the Revenge and Psycho Circus tours, Peace!
Don't like that you didn't include Black Diamond, but the video was cool, and I just subscribed. I'm 60 years old and I've seen kiss way back in 77 my first Kiss concert at Hartford civic center. I even caught an ace guitar pick I still got it lol.
The tone, the obscure underrated riffs, the perfectly timed clips of Ace Frehley's laugh.... You just continually get cooler and cooler the more it goes 😎
Thanks!
Wolfbone, your comment is what I would write too. 😊
This was a great vid
I grew up a diehard Kiss fan. Started playing guitar at age 11 due to hearing Ace busting out badass riffs on his LP. I’m 60 now and I still love it. Metal dad you are living the dream man. Keep playing the greatest guitar riffs ever played. 👍
Your fav 5 kiss songs?
I'll learn them

KISS was like the advent of electricity. They changed everything. Afterwards, lots of bands attempted to emulate them. With no internet, they still exploded. There's no parallel example nowadays, it was a phenomenon. The only thing they weren't on was Sesame Street!
Paul and Gene singing "sunny day, sweeping the clouds away" with a nasty Ace Frehley guitar solo would be awesome though. Lol
I believe your correct.
It is axiomatically true that rock and roll literally would not be what it is today had KISS not came along and pushed the envelope.
I’m serious. Remove KISS from history and an alarming chunk of modern rock and metal groups wouldn’t exist.
The "Sound" of Kiss guitars! Listening to alive years later and it's the sound of their unfiltered raw distortion that lights up the room.⚡. Marshall amps turned to 10 in contrast to the softer sound textures of the times. I feel like it was the sound of the electricity in their riffs itself that inspired them to look like that raw electricity and cosmic phenomenon.
People focus on their looks, but it was the sheer brilliance of the sound! Ace has an approach to guitar solos that blows your mind!
Paul Stanley's solo album was my first record in 1979.
His voice is the soul of rock and roll for Me! Glad I saw them in 2014, perfect!
Gene on Bass and Peter on Drums, that's the real thrill, the 1977 concert film , that's the look!
🤩
I like that they've referenced Slade and David Bowie in things I've read of them, Big Music becomes A Big Show!
Ace was there when Jimi Hendrix played in New York, a connection like lightning⚡
💋
The Black Diamond riff still gives me chills ...HIT IT
Yes!
The halftime coda solo does that for me.
My favorite KISS song. I listen to the Alive version daily.
That's my ultimate kiss riff, black diamond. Love that song!!
Yes! Some love for Mr.Speed.
So well deserved ...how has this brilliant, catchy riff been so underappreciated?
TY!
I cant believe it went under the radar, such a killer guitar hook!
Great choices. Mr. Speed - for me - is the most underrated song in the KISS catalog. I love it.
it's currently my favorite song to play on guitar, the chords and riffs, the lead, all so cool and fun to play and there's all these parts I look forward to and trying to get just right.
Agreed 100%.
Your number one is KISS’s best song that nobody (other than real KISS fans) knows about. I thought “The Oath” would make the list. The best bass line of any KISS song has to be “Torpedo Girl” off Unmasked.
What I love about this selection of riffs is it's not the obvious ones but, instead, features some of KISS' best hidden gems...excellent!
I don't understand how Aces solo on strange ways isn't one of the most renowned guitar solos in rock history. Hotter than hell album, last song strange ways, the heaviest guitar solo I've ever heard in my life still to this day!

Can’t help but observe how much of the 80s metal sound was influenced by these killer tracks..KISS FOREVER! 🔥
Nobody ever has Parasite in their top 10! Bravo to you!
I do! I even recorded a cover of it.
Great List.
Never understand why Mr. Speed never played live. Such a great song.
"Never played alive" I see what ya did there sir haha... My fav song by KISS!
Paul said in his book it was co written by someone outside of the band, possibly that has something to do with it? Who knows
Paul thought nobody liked it thats why they never played it live
Check the Kiss Kruise vids. If they've played it live, it was probably done on a Kruise. They do lots of deep cuts on the cruises.
I think the reason is: It’s not truly a “KISS” song. If you listen to it, it’s very Rolling Stones-ish. I like the song, I just think it sticks out as sort of odd for KISS.

That Paul Stanley riff is killer. Been listening to that a lot lately. I believe Bob Kulick plays on that. Great solo
Creatures of the night is one of my all time favorite KISS albums
Love the bits of history and insight you throw into the mix!!
@P Jeffery She bought a stack of Disney records at a yard sale. Rock n Roll Over was mixed in there. Lucky me.
I had the solo albums when I was 7yo. Good times. 🤘
Please tell me “Deuce” and “Nothin’ to loose” are on here, I freaking love the riffs on those.
DUDEEE I KNEWWWW mr. speed w=oudl be #1. It's such an underrated riff. Domino would have been on my list. Thanks for this video!
That was awesome seeing some blue collar looking dude shredding Kiss tunes from his lounging chair. Great job Metal Dad!
"Hi Curly!"
Jeez that movie was so bad.
I loved it! Kiss meets the Phantom of the Park!
Great job Metal Dad. For me 10 KISS riffs are not enough. Number one for me has to be Black Diamond.
So true! Love Black Diamond!
Rocket Ride and Larger then Life just had a different feel or sound. Maybe the way they recorded it. Love it! Great job and thanks!
I ended up watching 3 hours of live KISS concerts after this. Thank you for reminding me of how awesome they are as human beings and rock and roll legends
I think you might be my long lost brother.Seriously,I really
appreciate your channel. It always puts a big smile on my face!!You ROCK👍
Thank you so much Todd!
Your Welcome👍
No BS either!! I am pretty sick they just found a big tumor in my kidney. I’ve been losing 2-4 units of blood a week. I have been taking my headphones and rocking to your channel. While getting transfusions. Your riffs
are so many of my favorites it’s crazy.
@@toddzilla6491 I'll be praying brother!
Thank you🙂
Thanks! Great playing! Love the pic at the end!
Thanks Metal Dad for making my day! You've inspired me to pick up my guitar and start playing some of these riffs again \m/
Awesome. Thank you. Mr. Speed is one of my favorite KISS songs!
Great video! KISS has so many awesome riffs!
Kiss fan here. Nice Job! Personally, I'd drop some of the solo record stuff for Cold Gin, I Stole Your Love, or Nothing To Lose, buts that's just me. It's all good!
Love the choice of riffs and the tone is very close to Ace and Paul's overall sound. You could add another 15 to this list!
Parasite, 100,000 years are my favorites. Your nailing the Ace tone on that bad boy. Cheers bud.
Shock me is one of my favourite riffs. Such a good one.
I like late era kiss too. There's a bunch of great songs on revenge, hot in the shade, and I grew up a grunge kid who'd been listening to kiss since 8. But I love carnival of souls. Good picks here in the ace era for sure.
Amazing list. I appreciate it.
War machine! Hell yeah, metal dad 🤘
I loved this kind of video, keep on Metal Dad
Growing up in Ohio I was surrounded by Hee Haw and country music I would spend the summers in Rhode Island with my cousins and they would be listening to Kiss and Alice Cooper they played Cold Gin and I was totally blown away
60 year old fellow Ohio hillbilly..ironically enough, my friend Russ is the one who turned me onto KISS 🙂
Lol I heard my first Queen album at the Lima Ohio public library in 1976 it was in the classical music section because it was a night at the Opera
That was cool.
🤟😝❤
Lol I have to admit that I still go to the bluegrass and BBQ festival every year
Excellent Dad, I think is a good idea to tell fans that Kiss always tune down a half step to match with the records. I remember when I started playing along with the Kiss records (Dressed to Kill, Destroyer and Love Gun) thinking: "this is weird, they use flats and sharps tones..." Congratulations. By the way I'm going to get me one of those couch armchairs.
I knew before you said that number one was Mr. Speed. Mostly because it’s mine, too. Thanks for this walk down memory lane! Cheers!
I would have put "I Stole Your Love" on there. Killer riff and song.
yes!!! you have a request metal dad.. sounds like it
Muy buena selección de covers, una maquina metal dad,a la hora de tocar guitarra, que padre que fue de las primeras generaciones que disfrutaron a kiss en su prime, buuen video, saludos desde méxico.👍🙏✋✌🎸
I really enjoyed watching this video. Well done, Metal Dad! You play guitar very well!
Great choices Metal dad and keep on rockin' that Lazy Boy!
Killer songs selection. Exellent guitarrista. KISS FOREVER!!!!🤟🏼🎸🍻
When someone like ACE Influenced players like DIMEBAG,you know you’ve got something right, good upload bro
I stole your love! Cmon and love me!! MD likes a good dose of reverb doesnt he?Great vid 👍
Ace was/is always been my favorite, even before I knew anything about them. I've seen them many times live, in 1977, 1978,1979, 1980 and the later for the Revenge and Psycho Circus tours, Peace!
Rock and roll over is such a great album. Every song is good. Great for cruising. Makin love (one of my favorites ever) has such a nice groove.
Don't like that you didn't include Black Diamond, but the video was cool, and I just subscribed. I'm 60 years old and I've seen kiss way back in 77 my first Kiss concert at Hartford civic center. I even caught an ace guitar pick I still got it lol.
Great playing man! I love KISS.
