I remember growing up as a Kiss fan my neighbor said they were all show. I told him listen to all the cool riffs and catchy lyrics. I was hooked when I heard alive. Ace wasn't the best technical guitarist, but his leads and licks, bends, and vibrato fit Kiss perfect.
Great list and nicely played sir. I'm an "Elder" appreciator and agree with you. "The Oath" is a great heavy riff. Would have been an absolute monster live. Honourable mention to the riff in "Under the Rose" too. Always loved that one. Ace actually re-did Cold Gin on one of his fairly recent albums too. (I've been a KISS fan since I was a kid in the 70's. Ace is the reason I picked up a guitar) 🤘😁🎸
My favorite Kiss song is, "I Stole Your Love".. I jammed it in a couple different bands and it was always a crowd pleaser... Keep up the great jammin Metal Dad!!!
Me and my younger sister were doing a little karaoke for fun in my living room (we are moving around furniture so it was kinda echo-y) and we were doing a couple random songs, then she looks up at me and says: “Can we sing ‘I Stole Your Love’?!” I’ve never been more proud of that little rascal. My mother (of course) hates KISS so I could hear her sighs of disapproval from the other room.
That's one song I wish they would have kept that song in the setlist later in their career. It's possibly my favorite album opener. Killer concert opener also 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Dr. Love is a classic. I remember my daughter singing this on our front step when she was two. Of course every time we go to Evansville Indiana and pass the Holiday Inn my kids point out that's where it was written.
Black Diamond was one of my brothers fave KISS tunes. 👍I can still remember him jamming this in his bedroom with his turntable and those Kenwood Speakers! Thanks for this AWESOME walk down memory lane Metal Dad! 🎸❤👍
I grew up with Kiss as my first love of music. Been to many concerts. You honor them well with your awesome talent. The lazy boy in sox is makes your guitar playing seem as natural to you as breathing. I enjoy your videos. Keep doing your thing Metal Dad!
love watching your videos and both kiss riff videos are awesome filled with 20 amazing Kiss riffs but still nothing from 1 of their heaviest albums Revenge
I went back to the very first album and have worked my way through their discography. It's amazing how many great songs are out there. Ace is the man. Growing up every kid wanted to be him. Lol
Kiss they rock! I remember in the late 70s and early 80s a friend and I. Would rollerskate to them and Van Halen also Ozzy lol. God Of Thunder was my jam!
Man these riffs take me back The hottest band in the world. 1976 i had to have the bicentennial KISS poster That rock n roll over year reminds me of then when the 5 & dime & drug stores carried all that kool stuff. Great job brother. I think i will grab a guitar and jam out a few hours!!!
Kiss stood for being cool, guitar riffs that inovative, concert was actually a show. The first few were the best because the songs where pieces of other songs influenced by the later 60s and early 70s and when they out in 75,76,77, 78 they just road the top. Close to 5 decades later these songs still rock all over the world.
I love these "Favorite Kiss Riffs" sections - but as i note to you and the other KISS'ers around: I LOVE THE ELDER !!! It's very exciting to hear this kind of compositions from KISS!!! :) - But then again: I love all KISS (alomost) so..... there's that! - Tnx for the video Metal Dad!!! ROCK ON! and Marry Christmas 2 You and Yours! 🤟😎
I like “Mr. Speed”, that’s a killer riff. I like every song on “Destroyer”, especially “King of the night time world” and “Flaming Youth”. One album I love from the more modern-no makeup era is “Asylum” with Bruce Kulick on guitar. “Over the mountain”, “Tears are falling” and “who wants to be lonely” are great. The only problem that I have with that album is that it wasn’t recorded very well, it gets very harsh with midrange and treble , the higher you turn it up. I wish that I could have the original instrument tracks and mix it my way - properly.
I love the still photos he is showing during the jam session. Very impressive 👍 I felt Parasite would be #1 until I noticed it was included, as #8, on volume 1.
Dude...!!! You just nailed it! amazing job, i really enjoyed watching this video and that amazing end with Calling Dr. Love and even playing the Ace's solo, woow, you're the man! Regards from Mexico city.
Strange Ways was my favorite song. I heard it when I got the album in 1977, then the first, then Destroyer, then Kiss Alive II (that was a whopping $9.99). On the HTH album, as well as the first, it is the bass in relationship to the guitar which creates the heaviness to all the songs. The guitars are not overblown with overdrive. They had chalky bite to them, but then Gene's bass tone (full and smooth) adds so much more dimension to the whole song. I love how the solo just ends and is punched out of the mix.
the first time I ever heard of kiss was when I watched that one Scoby doo special when I was 3. I remember having nightmares for a month straight lol. Nevertheless, I got over the nightmares, and they are to this day one of my favorite bands!
Love the video and the way you just lounge on the chair and play. Would love to know more about how you started playing and if you were ever in a band. I really enjoy your playing and videos.
A great follow up video metal dad. I'm guessing you're around my age (56). My oldest brother was 6 years old then me, so I was exposed to rock n roll at a very young age. My first vinyl album was Kiss Destroyer at 11 years old. I still have it, and a Kiss 45 with Christine sixteen on it. You have to go down the Ace Frehley post Kiss solo albums now. He is the only original member of Kiss that went on to do anything incredible 😊
The Elder aged really well. I did not like it at the time, but over the years I like it more and more. It's really got some great moments. I wish I could say the same for Unmasked.
@@braydenbench1670 well it just goes to show we all have our own opinions and ideas! I have been surprised to see how much support Unmasked actually has🤔. Maybe I'll revisit it and see how it goes 😏.
Actually Ace has recorded a version of Cold Gin with John 5 no less. Its off his seventh solo album Origins VOL 1 check it it's a lot heavier than the original and brings a different flavor to the song
I feel sorry for the younger generation that never saw them live. I went to every KISS concert I could, I wish I had saved all my ticket stubs, the only bad concert that had was none of them, I can't say that about some bands.
I’m 24 and saw them a few months ago. While they are nowhere near their 70s days I was completely blown away by them. I wasn’t a kiss fan before them but now I’m completely obsessed. I love watching videos about them and listening to songs I haven’t heard yet. I’m sad I didn’t get to see them back in the day, or with ace, but i feel honoured to have seen them
@@harryforster602 I'm glad you you got to see them Kiss always gives you their best and their concerts back in the day were awesome fond memories happy to see Kiss has a new member of the Kiss army rock on brother 👍
The Alive intro was done by JR Smalling, one of their bodyguards and road manager, while the others were done by professional voice overs. The guy who has done it with them for roughly 20 years is also on their crew, but I don’t know his name
The Alive II intro, as on every Kiss concert at the time (and for a long time), was done by the late Eddie Balandas, Kiss' security chief. But the last word ("KISS!") was overdubbed later by Gene Simmons in the studio because the Balandas delivery sounded like "PISS!" instead.
Dear Dad: it’s almost imperative a 3td part, with the excellent riffs from the Kulick brothers. Thank you for your videos, and kind regards from Mallorca, Spain 🤟
I've always thought(since i bought the single in '78) that the "stab" at the end of of hard times was taken from 2000 man and it works better than the fade out
Hey metal dad you forgot 6 foot hot look All American Man. That opening riff is heavy as hell. Crank that one out for an old detroit born kiss fan! Rock on dude!
"Deuce", as far as THIS old fart is concerned( 59 yrs old), is the best concert-opening song ever.. I didnt discover KISS until 9th grade(1977) when a friend of mine GAVE me his KISS ALIVE! album.. Deuce blew me away.. I had just finished 3 yrs of guitar lessons and switched over to Bass. I had some catching up to do as far learning KISS tunes.Of course I would later branch out( VH, Pat Travers, etc etc) but Gene was my first bass hero regardless of what some people might think of his overall ability..Thanks,Gene!
Hey metal dad… this list is awesome. Pumped to see you mention the Oath. I would personally add All American man, I stole your love, and I’ve had enough (into the fire) One member of the KIϟϟ army to another!
Hello Metal Dad, awesome video Thumbs 🆙. What year is your Eiphone Les Paul and what gauge strings do you use and what brand strings do use? You have awesome Guitar Tone.
The songs from Hotter Than Hell are just pure dirty and raw rock n roll. Such an underrated album.

War machine should have been on that! Arguably their heaviest track?
Ace was the man
Crazy chops Metal Dad!!! The archive photos take me back to the days of Hit Parader and Cream.
My fave is Come On And Love Me from Alive. I have it as the ring tone on my phone.
Great list and nicely played sir. I'm an "Elder" appreciator and agree with you. "The Oath" is a great heavy riff. Would have been an absolute monster live. (I've been a KISS fan since I was a kid in the 70's. Ace is the reason I picked up a guitar) 🤘😁🎸
The oath is really cool indeed. And not too far from the riffs in "Exciter" !
My favorite Kiss song is, "I Stole Your Love".. I jammed it in a couple different bands and it was always a crowd pleaser... Keep up the great jammin Metal Dad!!!
