This is definitely an interesting video! Major props to you for including Mark St John's solo stuff, I was super worried those would be forgotten here, and while your opinions on his stuff differ a bit from mine (absolutely love Mark's solo stuff to death lol), it's still nice to see it get some attention! I also learned some new stuff from this, especially with Shake The Faith.

Cool list. Destroyer was the first album I ever bought, I was in 5th grade and totally into comic books at the time which is the sole reason I chose it. I feel fortunate that I didn't pick a dud. It was a great introduction to music for a kid on account of all the different styles presented, and Ezrin's musical influence and production. Destroyer set me up nicely for a lifetime of open minded music fandom.

Well done! As a casual/nostalgic fan I was mostly clueless about most of the solo stuff and other bands/projects. Now I have some serious checking out to do. My list would have the first three albums higher, and I disagree with the consensus of putting Destroyer at the top. It might come down to how important sound/production is to the listener, compared to songwriting and feel. Since I am mostly oblivious to sound quality, most days I put Hotter than Hell at the top, followed by Rock and Roll Over and Ace's first solo album.
And so I'm off to looking the Eric Singer Project stuff up. Thanks!

As expected, we disagree quite a bit but I appreciate someone willing to take the time to rank all of these. I think a big element of how several albums are usually ranked is when they came along in someone's life and even what the circumstances were in which the album was released. When Unmasked was released, I was 10. Union had better songs but there's no way I'd rank Union higher than a KISS album I'd spent the previous twenty years with. Trouble Walking has better songs than Frehley's Comet but the build up in my circle at the time to Ace finally releasing a solo album was huge. Demos had floated around and he did some live shows but when that album was released, we couldn't stop listening to it. It could've been an album of Ace playing the harp instead of the guitar. Didn't matter. He was finally "back". I tend to ramble.

PETER - Cat # 1 was his best solo album but I am one of the few who love many of the tracks on One For All - they are either hit or miss for me but his soulful and uneven singing reaches me. He did have the worst solo album.
GENE - Asshole was uneven - loved Dog and Black Tongue - but the rest leaves me wanting something else. I do like his solo album much more than you - half of the album is great work.
PAUL - Did not love Live To Win immediately but it has grown on me. His solo effort is right below Gene in my mind due to some of his lighter stuff on the album. Has some great tunes though.
ACE - You did a great job ranking his albums - I do like Space Invader much more than you do. His solo album was the best. Surprise - the guy who did the least amount of singing had the best solo effort.

    RANKING KISS MEMBERS
1-4 Gene, Paul, Peter and Ace - I cannot rank the original four as each brought something to the group. The time that they were four equals is unmatched in KISSTORY.
    5. Bruce Kulick - I love Ace's style with the guitar but Bruce was the best guitar player the band ever had.
    6. Eric Singer - I know that I have committed a sin by placing him above Eric Carr but listen to his work on Carnival of Souls if you question his talent.
    7. Eric Carr - Heavier drummer who fit perfectly with the Creatures of the Night era - much different than the jazz influenced style of Peter Criss.
    8. Vinnie Vincent - The shredder - Heavy KISS songs should be reserved for Carr and Vincent.
    9. Tommy Thayer - The fake ACE is greatly criticized but the man knows virtually every song in the KISS catalogue and can credibly reproduce the sound. My big criticism - ACE, Bruce, and Vinnie had a style - Thayer either has none or is not allowed to have one.
    10. Mark St. John - Being only on one KISS album hurts his ranking - Was he the first Tommy in the group?

  • @ericfox4461

Well your age and first kiss concert was sonic boom explains alot . I lo e Vinnie Vincent's playing ! To me he was the best guitarist they ever had ,of course Ace is ThE right guitar player for the band! The one you missed ,a d I knew you would is EZO ,first album produced y Gene and has Tommy Thayer as Co writer on several songs! It came out in1987 and was the Japanese KISS ,make up and everything ! It's probably one of my all time favorite albums, period . You should definitely check it out . Too much Bruce in the list ,I think he's a boring guitar player, very nice every time I met him . The top 3 is as close as we would come to agreeing on anything. I always enjoy hearing what other people think, good job !

Good job. I'd like to see how you rank the live albums. Alive! is actually #1, while Destroyer is #2 and Rock and Roll Over is #3. Creatures of the Night is #4.

"Kiss" is a matter of one's preferences. First their album I heard was "Lick It Up", which still is No1 for me. I was 13 and I instantly liked it. It was in 1985. I thought: "Wow, heavy". I didn't expect Kiss played Heavy Metal. Least favorite songs: "Dance all over your face" and "On the 8-th day". I love Vinnie's solos, Eric Carr's drumming, singing of both: Paul and Gene (Gene's a little bit more). I also think, that Eric influenced Kiss a lot and shifted them into heavier music than they did before. Shortly after "Lick It Up" I listened to "Alive" and "Alive II". I didn't like the production (especially on Alive), but the vibe and the music was amazing. I liked it too, but was surprised how different was Kiss's music prior to "Lick it up". All other stuff of Kiss isn't interesting to me. I have to admit, that this band was a huge event in showbusinnes and hard to imagine, how many bands they influenced, how many trends set, etc., etc. I lisntened (here, on mighty RUclips) with interest the audio book of Paul Stanley "Face the Music: A Life Exposed". Very interesting. Your reviews are also interesting, thank you for your work!

Wow... my list would be drastically different. I'm a lot older than you so the earlier albums mean more to me. But, this is your list and not mine and that's what make these fun.

When I saw this rating I thought 1st it was going to cover LIVE albums and albums and even the special add on I never would have thought of this this caught be by surprise I thought you were going to add the Box set / Alive and 2/3/4 Symphony i never would have thought this very informative of groups of which they were in and never heard of before If I were to do a list it would cover the CD albums and Alive and Boxset with songs .

Ok, so I'm different from most KISS fans, in the fact I LOVED Carnival of Souls.
With the way rock was trending at the time, this was a bold maneuver for them at the time. Unlike other KISS albums that always sound like KISS albums, only the vocals would've given away this was KISS. And that's why I love this... It's not a cookie cutter album

Sean, unfortunately I have not listened to many of the albums you ranked. I don't have an opinion one way or the other for that reason. But I have to say, although I would put some albums higher or lower, you did one hell of a job. Nice work!!

I don't agree with many of your rankings but I respect them. By the way, you missed Vinnie's old band Treasure. Anyway, here's my top and bottom 5 (proper KISS only)...
    Top 5
    1: Rock and Roll Over
    2: Carnival of Souls
    3: Hotter than Hell
    4: KISS
    5: Destroyer
Bottom 5 (least favorite at #1)
    1: Gene Simmons '78 Solo
    2: Crazy Nights
    3: Dynasty
    4: Unmasked
5: Asylum (although Tears are Falling is one of my top 5 KISS songs)

Enjoyed the list. Not there with you on the Criss albums being anything but bad but totally agree on Live to Win and Paul's first solo. I listen to both often.
