Love this, Brooke. I do almost the exact same type of shipping too. I have a closet full of recycled packaging materials (Amazon air pillows, boxes, etc.). I just watched another video about using floral cellophane to wrap paintings. I'd never used that before. I've always used Glassine, but will give that a try. I also wrap my paintings with that green plastic wrap you get at moving supply stores. I wrap it around the bubble wrap and entire painting to keep it all together and safe in case the box gets wet. So many different techniques out there. We just want our work to get to our collectors safely. Great video. Happy painting! -Shan

I've since replaced the cellophane wrap with acid free tissue paper (trying to cut down on plastic), with bubble wrap on top - though plastic wrap is certainly better for water protection!
@@b.cormier I hear ya. I've been using glassine paper, but recently saw a gallery using florist cellophane wrap to wrap their prints. I'm going to start including a card in my boxes, tubes, and flat packaging letting folks know that I try to recycle packaging materials, and thank them for understanding. Every little bit helps. Right? Happy creating!

Thanks Brooke! Very helpful and it doesn’t hurt that it’s super entertaining as well 😂. Not gonna lie I’m somewhat relieved some of the challenges you have are the same ones I have. I really like your presentation choice of clear wrap with an embossed sticker and cert of authenticity on the back.
Also do you ever feel the need to put a styrofoam board on the back of the painting in case something punctures the back of the box or is that overkill?
Thanks for watching Keith! I think extra protection is never a bad idea, so if you have the supplies and the right size box to fit an extra styrofoam board then go for it! In this case the box was too narrow to fit two layers

Superrb video and painting!! Just a quick question, have you ever used regular brown cardboard on the sides instead of foam board to protect your canvas? Just wondering if it might be as effective as the foam boards.. or would it be considered too risky 🤔🥰

Hey, how do you decide what box you need? I have 80x60cm artwork and 120x100 but don't know how much the wrapping etc takes in cm so don't know when a box is a right match
Thanks for the demo (it was super entertaining too!). Just wondering about varnishing. Did you varnish the painting and have to wait a certain length of time before packaging and sending? I love that painting by the way.
Thanks for watching! I usually use a spray varnish and it's dry within a day. I just make sure that the surface is not at all sticky before I start packaging :)

Questions on shipping! 1. Is it challenging to ship internationally? 2. Do you take it to the post office and have them measure/weight or do you do that online and then drop it off? 3. have you ever faced size restrictions on shipping? thx!!

It's a bit more work to ship internationally, but it's 100% doable! For example, you need to fill out a customs form and sometimes additional paperwork depending on where you're shipping to. If the painting/print I'm shipping is on the smaller side I will usually take it to the post office (because they don't accept parcels that are over a certain size). But I often use a website called Shiptime.com that will find the best rates across all the different available curriers, then you print the shipping labels (and additional paperwork) attach it to your parcel, and the courier comes right to your house to pick it up! Hope that helps! 😊
This is super helpful. I'm also looking into insurance, but it seams there are no one offering affordable plans here in Norway. I guess one needs to start getting payed a lot to actually afford to insure the art. The cheapest I found was 300$ upfront and another 1000$ if the package is actually lost. Quite steep for a beginner. Either way, Ill be trying to package like this going forward, appreciate the video!!
Glad you liked the video! Yeah insurance is tricky - honestly I went years before properly insuring my work when I was a beginner and it was totally fine... until it wasn't lol (referencing my top 3 worst experiences video)

That painting is FIRE!!!!! I love it!!!!! With roughly 100 hours of time, how much would something like that cost? Always unsure of what to charge people for my artwork. So detailed. It looks like a picture. You are so talented.
Thank you so much! 😊 price depends on many things and will look different depending on where you are in your art career. Because this painting was a commission, I won’t discuss the price as a courtesy to my client, but it did make up a good chunk of my salary that year! I’m planning on doing more videos in the future that will dive into pricing your work, as it’s a big topic to cover, stay tuned! 😋

Hi mam. I bought frame for canvas 3*3.5 feet height. It's very heavy wood. Can I progress on that. Please suggest me I hv to use nail for stretching canvas or else I move to stabler. Is stabler penetrate that heavy wood. Please gv your opinion..

May I ask a question? Does your client cover the cost of shipping? Do you add in the cost of tape and foam core, etc?
I am struggling with these details that seem to eat up my profits.
