O. MG. As a young girl, my grandmother taught me how to knit, crochet and do crewel embroidery. As I grew into a teen and adult I stopped doing it. You are the FIRST artist I’ve come across on the web who’s incorporating embroidery with their painting. What a wonderful concept!
it's actually beautiful when you hold the painting up to the light, the holes are like little dew drops catching the light... (a smaller needle would fix this but it's a happy accident) i'm a total perfectionist so it's hard to open myself up to these sorts of things but as i do it more i've realized that the accidents actually make the work better than you can imagine it in your head, like divine intervention or something
Only 4 mins in and I immediately subbed. I feel bad to admit that at first I thought I was gonna be bored. I thought you were going to talk in front of the camera the entire video and almost clicked away. BUT was pleasantly surprised by all the layers. It gets more interesting as I watch! Love it! Def an inspiration for my own art vlogs.
I personally love the light shining through the artwork like stars in the night sky. It adds another dimension to the piece only visible under specific viewing conditions. Similar to the new dimension added by the volume of the embroidery. I also love the back embroidery as an artwork in itself. Its like the lines are trying to become something, but are ultimately incomplete. Which actually hints at how they are part of the whole. abstract The great thing about these aspects of the finished artworks is, even if they aren't visible when hung up, they are documented in this video, which has become part of the work, through the story of its creation. I love what you have done, please keep experimenting :)
14:39 🎉 congratulations! You took a risk and it paid off 👏 yeah you’re reminding me that every once in a while we have to dip into process mode. No matter how scary it may be... product mode pays the bills but process mode stretches your creative energy
It's a brave move, I was also nervous and hearing how the needle went through the canvas for the first time made me shudder. I see that you are going through a stage of overflowing creativity and that is a blessing for any creative mind (normal in geniuses like you). You already combined realistic with abstract, you already embroidered a painting, what's next for you? because I'm sure you have no limits, and it's refreshing to see how someone who is already successful goes beyond the conventional. Thank you for that and keep surprising us.
Wow! Time flies! I started watching when you were getting mentored and painting food paintings 🖼 You’ve inspired me so much over the years. My profile pic is something I painted 5 years ago after being inspired by your vignettes ❤
This is so beautiful Brooke as always! You didn't come this far just to come this far!! Nietzsche says "There are no beautiful surfaces without a terrible depth" which means every beautiful thing we see is an abstraction of huge complexities, all the struggle/hard decisions to take/ doubt/ anxiety... will pay off one day big big big time! wish you the very best ✨✨✨✨
It looks so lovely! I've also gone out on a whim in the past with mixed media on canvas. I see my art pieces and think they look so cool, yet no one else seems to share that notion with me. XD They are quite niche and nerdy, but I loved experimenting. Please continue letting your creativity take the wheel! It's already led you to such a beautiful place.
From seeing your stitches, I would have never guessed that you are a beginner embroiderer :D You did everything right: doing a test sample and going with quality materials. These are steps that help enormously but are often overlooked. The colors of your painting are so beautiful - as is the painting itself of course. The stitches sit nicely in the painting without taking too much attention.
Wow, this video has it all! It was relaxing, funny, visually beautiful and inspiring, exactly what I wanted to watch on lazy Sunday morning ❤. The painting and embroidery look amazing. Awesome work Brooke! 😊 Greetingssss~
LOOOOVE IT!! P.s I’m a new subscriber and this is the first time I’ve commented, and I couldn’t resist with this really awesome new piece of work ❤ love your videos too btw!
Brilliant work, Brooke. Life is risk and there will be successes and failures. My advice - never be afraid to take a risk - if you don't, you will never find those other successes. And, you always have your "tried and true" to fall back on. You are young and have a brilliant career ahead of you - now is the time to play. BTW - will you varnish that?
I love embroidery too and that you tried this experiment out, it’s beautiful as I knew it would be. I also appreciate the surprising fact that the holes from the needle left those open spaces! I did not expect that to happen! :/ Thanks so much and I really enjoy your videos! 👍♥️
Love your quirky-quick-dramatic-humour. Super cute and funny. Really loved your idea and your execution was flawless! Don't worry about the holes in the piece. I didn't notice and nobody is going to be holding it up to the light! A smaller needle, yes. Next time. Meanwhile, the painting is beautiful for the exact reasons you discussed! Love it and the concept!
Love your enthusiasum, it turned out beautiful. For the backing you can always cover it with craft backing paper comes in a roll, it'll look great, and no one will be the wiser. Love it all.
I absolutely love the painting and the added embroidery! My favorite part of the video had to be your different commentary from the fashion risks to quoting the Suit Life of Zack and Cody!😂
Don’t know what to do with those tall salads 🥗 & scrambled eggs, they’re calling again! Thank you Brooke Cormier & good night, we ❤ you!

OMG lol, you’re so talented and you’re hilarious, currently doing art commissions myself, following you for support and inspiration, thanks for sharing your process
I took a risk 15 years back when I decided to become a full time artist But in the end, it turned out to be okay, I even embraced social media aspect and sharing my art with the world now 😊
I loved it! I had a thought, maybe you could swatch the different stitches, threads on the sample smaller canvas with the same number of gesso to see the look first before you go in with the real thing? Your paintings and videos are always so nice to see! As for your question, my current project is to build my own creative language, I am right at the beginning of the journey, which feels like one big risk, but one I'm willing to take. Otherwise we would never know!
Loved the pic and the embroidary! I started painting 8 months ago...never took any art classes in HS. So, totally a newb. Doing abstract impressionism and acrylic paints. Can't draw, can't paint, but having a great time with the new hobby!
Thanks Brooke for the nudge. I was a portrait/nude artist for 25 yrs when I had to slow way down to become a caregiver for my Mom. I was only painting 2 or 3 paintings per year. Now I'm back to full time and have been struggling to get started again. Your words were very helpful in motivating me. It's a journey but all help is appreciated. Keep up the good work and the great videos.
Thank you so much for the inspirational message to me and all aspiring artists. You have phenomenal talent, and the sharing of your ideas is much appreciated. You are also a lovely lady. Again, thank you.
Thanks so much, Brooke, for sharing your journey. I am an abstract and collage artist so, not attempting realism at all - yet, you encouraged me to stretch and try new things in my own work. Thanks so much! And I LOVE the addition of the embroidery thread.
I really enjoyed seeing you do this it was interesting to see two mediums that you don't usually see together being put together. I just finished a new painting early hours of this morning (Australia time) titled "The Broken Dolls". I used to paint in this weird new school gothic punk style, I eventually got bored of it even though people loved it. I lost a lot of people when I switched to doing stuff like flowers, portraits, graffiti stencils etc. then recently in just a few days learnt surrealism like Salvador Dali used to do, I put my own flavor in and "the Broken Dolls" was the first surrealism piece I did and I really enjoyed painting even though I can only afford to buy acrylics I layer them up to make them look like oils I little something I learnt long ago. if you're interest in seeing the work I did you can find it on my channel, I'm not going to link it because that's disrespectful to do on someone else's video.
I just saw this video and have a suggestion in regards to the holes that show light through: simple solution would be to add a backing to cover all the threads which will also keep the light out and therefore you won’t see the holes, especially if you add a black backing. In addition you may want to add a dab of paint here & there on the bigger holes. I’m sure that will easily camouflage any remaining visual disturbance. And kudos for thinking of such a clever idea. Keep going with it -see how you far you can push it- I think it’s a great idea! Thank you for the vid- both entertaining & thought provoking. Got to go run and see what I can come up with in the studio! Thanks again! SARA
You could put black sort over the back of the painting attaching it to the stretcher bars, which accomplishes two things covers all the knots and stitches on the back and makes it hard for light or light colored walls to show through the holes in the canvas.
I absolutely love this!!!! SO MUCH!! I love painting and I love embroidery. But it has never occurred to me to combine the two. What a fantastic idea. 😁
I love how it highlighted those poppies. Fun going.

Hey brooke! I love your Channel and your transparency and spontanousity (i'm spanish sorry 😂) keep going youre doing great! Hope to see more of your works un the future!!!
I really liked this video. It made me feel calm! I’ve been wanting to incorporate various elements into my abstract art, so that’s what I’m experimenting with. Things like text, book pages, gold leafing, embroidery is next.
Clever idea that really turned out well! I often do semi-realistic nature/wildlife art and post it on my Instagram page. It looks jarring when I post my experimental art there so I started an additional Instagram page to post the 'weird' stuff. So far no followers and very few likes, LOL, but it gives me an outlet for the fun, explorative art I like to do.
well i have seen people on youtube who wouldnt put in half the effort you did in their video and they have hundreds and thousands of followers, hopefully people notice your effort and all the hardships pay off, also nice editing love your transitions choice of music which isnt too loud and annoying and camera quality too, watching this video in 4k dang the roses, birds, the details and yea seen your podcast/interview on kelsey's channel once you get enough engagement from the audience you can make your own merchandise people love that stuff like chibi pins,stickers,shirts/hoodies with your catch phrase you use in the videos and all, dont worry to experiment on digital stuff too since you already started your first digital art, aaron blaise was skeptical about digital art when he was doing traditional animation but he managed to get through it and now he does both digital and traditional arts, there are artists who manage both digital and traditions stuff so good luck with the future projects and congrats on 15k subs take care!
That looked great when you showed the final piece with the threads entwined on the painting, before you did that though, I was like What?? are you crazy?!!!! lol I find it best to just throw yourself into the risky experimental art, as everything is a learning experience, even if it doesn't work out you can try it different each time and learn from it!!
I'm new to your channel and love just about everything about your videos. Very relaxing, great sense of humour and beauty all round, including your home, which looks absolutely beautiful from what we can see. Not forgetting your pup, he/she is adorable.
The music you're choosing and the calm vibes, remind me so much of Mister Rogers in the best kind of way. Great job! It's therapeutic just watching and listening.
good afternoon! The back side of the canvas can be treated with special silicone glue or rubber as processed when creating handmade carpets, it will remove the enlightenment and at the same time fix threads.
I just discovered you on my newsfeed and for some reason I thought you were going to talk about taking risks as an artist as like an overall discussion but it being a soothing and beautiful and silly video of you actually doing said risk taking was a pleasant surprise, im glad I clicked and stuck around and you’ve got a new subscriber out of me! I’d also be your friend. You’re fun. Celebrating you and your inching out of your comfort zone!
Enjoy your videos! Like most artists, I started painting representational art, in the realism genre, 35 years ago, but over the years, I’ve gone more and more abstract, and love it! Personally, I think abstract is true creativity as you’re not simply copying nature, still life or figures.
Have you considered applying some paint to the back of the canvas at the holes to plug them? I really like the concept, and of course the final product. It adds a lot of depth and character and makes your work stand out. I used to build crazy car stereo enclosures and always thought mixing different materials (carpet/vinyl/plexiglass/metal grills) adds a lot of texture to the finished piece making it more interesting. The embroidery does the same. I have been contemplating trying something similar for my artwork like trying different canvas shapes, including an infinity mirror into the painting somehow, or even having a 3 dimensional surface (wavy/etc.).
I think since the painting will be hung on a wall, I won't have to worry about any light penetrating it from behind! And the stereo enclosures sound really cool! 🙌
That's so weird... I was just gifted two bags of absolutely beautifly colours of embroidery floss and I was thinking that I was going to use them on my paintings - and VOILA! - here you are doing so! I think it turned out great! You used it judiciously, without overwhelming the actual painting. I was wondering whether you were going to spray the front with fixative to keep the threads clean. One thought I had for the holes in the canvas was to either paint over the holes with the appropriate colour on the back (time consuming, yes) or just paper over the entire back of the canvas like they used to do. Whatever you do, I'm so glad to see you experimenting and having fun and bringing new life to an old art! You GO, girl!
@Brooke Cormier My pleasure Brooke. I love your work. I found you from the Kelsey Rodriguez interview, and now I've been following you and also watching the Tim Packer mentorship interviews. Nice to see the success and beautiful work of a fellow Canuck! 🇨🇦 I think you could teach courses too, in person. Take a bunch of us to a secret island. I'd volunteer be your assistant!🎨🖌
Put a backing on the frame to get rid of light thru holes. I loved the video. When I used to embroider I only used 3 strands of thread. You are so talented.
You are adorable and I love your calm and cool demeanor.Just started following you after you redid your terrace garden…I’m a gardener and as a gardener I have a artist within me…that embroidery touch to the painting really gave depth…loved it…keep on trucking 💕👏
Yes it turned out beautiful… I was so afraid you were going u to I embroider the whole thing…. You just added some dimension that made it pop & look extraordinary ♥️
Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is just knowing which ones to keep.
Stay blessed 🤍🙏🏼🪽
Btw, you could put some black, felt or fabric on the back of your canvas to help with hiding/camouflaging the holes 😊
Grew idea 👌
Absolutely! I was going to suggest the same 😊
Ha yeah I was thinking the same ! Just cover the back side with something ….
Great idea! Thanks for the suggestion 🙏
@@b.cormier or you could paint thick paint on the back to cover the hole :)

Back at it agin 🎉
LOL! Love it! First time here and a sub and 👍🏻
Every little comment counts. Hehe. I’m cheering you on!! I love your video. Nice work on experimenting, that turned out great!!
Hehe I appreciate it!! Thanks Jennifer!🤗

Your video skills are improving by leaps & bounds! 🙌
Thanks mom! 💘
Love your creativity well done the poppys pop 🖼️
Synchronicity!! You should definitely try it, it's a lot of fun :) Thanks for watching!!
This is so fun and the threads you chose were spot on. The rise of mixed media has been great, would you consider ever doing a series like this?
Such detailed creativity... Beautiful ❤️😍. I love that you selectively chose where to crochet... Genius
Thank you!! 🥰
Turned out beautifully! Love your style 💖
LOVE ❤️. I STARTED DOING this about a year ago. I paint with watercolor on cotton canvas or on fabric. Then I go wild stitching. So fun
Awesome!!

Omg brooke this is so fucking fantastic 😍💕❤❤❤ inspired and proud of you
Thank you Daksha! 🥰
Put a backing on the frame to get rid of light thru holes. I loved the video. When I used to embroider I only used 3 strands of thread. You are so talented.
You can add interfacing on the back. It’s applied with an iron and comes in both black and white.
You are adorable and I love your calm and cool demeanor.Just started following you after you redid your terrace garden…I’m a gardener and as a gardener I have a artist within me…that embroidery touch to the painting really gave depth…loved it…keep on trucking 💕👏
Thank you so much! I'm happy you stuck around 🤗
