It's a sign of separation anxiety, and it can help if you start "getting ready" about half an hour before you leave, so they stop associating, say, grabbing your keys and shoes with you leaving. Also helps if you don't give them an enthusiastic greeting or treats the moment you return home. Give them treats and affection when they calm down. You can also help by having slow/puzzle feeders for them and hiding treats around the house to give them something to do, and give them treats right before you leave. It helps them build a positive association with you leaving so they're less worried. It's cute when they want you to stay, but it can also be really bad for them and cause behaviors like spraying and using your bed as the litter box! Or they can get bored and destructive. I'm just glad mine "only" attacks my feet (it's bad but it could be a lot worse!).

But it was funny because he was very specific. I mean he has all those buttons for things he likes he could have made as many selections as he wanted, but he knew precisely what he wanted. I wonder if the order was important to him.

I am very lucky. I work out of my home. I used to keep the door to my home office closed, but the door has a glass panel in it, and I couldn't ignore the torment of watching my kitties taking turns sitting outside the door and peering in, and putting their paws up on the glass or in the crack under the door whenever I glanced their way. So I relented and let them in and taught them that as long as they stayed calm, they could stay in the room. They figured it out within a week. At first I would make them leave when I had online meetings, but that rule went away quickly. I didn't want to disturb a comfortable sleeping kitty or stop petting a happy boy (they are all boys) on my lap, just because dumb humans needed my attention. Now, during work calls, I routinely am asked about my cats, or people want me to move my camera around so they can see what they are up to. They have just become kind of a "workplace fixture". And they love being able to be nearby all day, even if it is just so they can sleep in one of the cat beds or hammocks I have around the room.

I went to a preschool where the parents stayed with the younger kids' group, & I kept demanding to be in the older kids' group without parents there. 😂 My girl cats were pretty chill, but my boy's a bit anxious, & I tell him "back soon/later/tonight" depending on how long I'll be gone. I dunno if he understands, but it's worth trying.
For Todd’s sake, I humbly submit you retire early so he (and the others) can receive all the ‘brushes, cuddles, and pets’ they desire - anytime of day!

We had Glamour and Paulie and there was already a lot of time given to make sure they got the affection and care they needed. It was my Mom, Dad, my wife, and me. When we walked into the room where Todd was he looked at us then perked up and ran to me to be picked up. I did and he was very affectionate. I told my Mom, here's a nice one and handed him to her. He let her hold him for about 30 seconds then fought to get down and ran back to me while I was trying to check out another kitten. I picked him back up and held him for a minute then handed him to my wife si I could keep checking out the kittens for my Mom. Same thing, he fought to get down and ran back to me. He insisted I hold him and he cuddled with me and purred very loud. The lady from the shelter came in and asked how we were doing and I told her about Todd. She said he was newer there and didn't have a lot of info on him but had not heard of him behaving like that before. I looked at my wife and said I think I've been adopted and she said it looks like it and we have been bonded ever since.

I am self employed, and I can't tell you how often I delayed heading out to work because hanging around home with my last cat!

I don't know if he has anxiety. He may just enjoy it more when Dad is home.
