- Todd woke up a little grumpy and demanding and that all changed when Glamour woke up and jumped down to the floor where Todd could see her.
Todd is a 6-year-old neutered male cat at the time of this video. Todd and his dad have been learning to communicate with each other since May of 2022 with the help of recordable buttons. We aim to let Todd express himself and tell me his wants and needs. Currently, Todd has 45 words on his soundboard. This channel is dedicated to Todd learning to “talk”. I think Todd thought the food puzzle was an extra treat, not a substitute for the Mousey. Maybe that’s why he insisted on getting it. 😼

I laughed out loud at the repeated “mousey” presses! So funny. That’s exactly why I don’t do the buttons with my cats- I would get hundreds of presses for food, toys, or mad! I’m trying to focus on learning to communicate without the buttons (and these channels (including Billi) really help)! Todd is pretty cute, thanks for sharing him with us!!
Yes, you can absolutely communicate with your cat without the buttons. They are just an aid. Before the buttons, I knew when Todd wanted to play but not with what, I knew when he wanted affection but didn't know if it was pets, cuddles, belly rubs, or brushes. Etc. Todd still communicates with me that way when he is away from the buttons and with them.
The mousey tantrum was priceless! 😂

I don't think cat's understand grammar (like word order) the same way we do. They seem to keep shuffling word order. But I love watching people try.
Yes, they talk more like Yoda, but all the words are there and correct for their thought.
In many human languages yhou do not use the personal pronomen ("I") when speaking. So Todd could easily mean "I am happy" when pressing "Happy". Also, the selevtion of buttons does not really allow for more elaborated grammar, so Todd has to combine what is there to get a meaningfull sentence. Thus the dialogue: "Mad" "Why are you mad?" "JingleBell" - there is no obvious way Todd could tell you that he was mad of a situation before where he asked for JingleBells and didn't get them. My thoughts...
I've seen Billy just hit whatever's closest first too often.
Of course they do have the grammar of repeating the thing a lot if they really mean it.

Yes, he usually says he's happy when he sees her, but it is unusual for him to say it that many times. She must have cheered him up.
Perhaps because he was in a bit of a bad mood earlier it made him extra happy to see her or that he wanted to show that he's feeling better now.
I saw Todd look towards his mad button after he pushed the mousey button many times, hahaha. He is so cute, I just love seeing what and how Todd thinks.its just soo cool seeing him express himself like this. Have a great day

Poor Todd was mad. Looks like he got bit shocked first with your chance in tone but still like the cat he is he still had to press mousey after it but then was okay with ambush toy. Great seeing Glamour made him happy again. My heart just melt how he likes Glamour, just seeing her beauty makes him in a better mood.

Glamour, Paulie, and Todd were the names they had at the shelter, and we kept them.
Glamour sounds like the perfect name for a cat like her. Todd fits perfectly too, Todd really is a Todd. Paulie is a cute name too. Happy to hear they are rescues.

@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks I think he’s trying for you. ❤ It seems like right after that time that you told him that Paulie was a nice kitty and that he would be his friend If he were nice to him, Todd has been trying to be friendlier to him. In The videos after that one I could clearly see him restraining himself to not chase Paulie and to try to be nice to him.
@iramadanceandmusic1098 I was also working with uom behind the scenes as well. I would give the two of them a squeeze up treat and they would have to share it nicely to get it. That reinforced the notion he has to at least tolerate him if not be nice.

Jingle ball update: The Jingle Ball makers tried to fool us - I found a Blue/Pink Jingle Ball but it was a clear (polycarbonate?) plastic vs. the milky look (polyethylene?) type TRUE Jingle Ball. We will continue the search Todd. We have not given up.

Unfortunately the mousey gets filled with his food. He's asking me to fill it , he gets it as a treat in addition to his meal twice a day. If he got it anymore he would be over eating.

Look how gently he pushes the buttons, maybe his joints ache? Amazing little guy, thanks for posting. We give our older guys bone broth & glucosamine condroitin capsules that we open & sprinkle on their food. It makes a huge difference.

@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks we had an adopted puppy with joint problems. The vet put her on medication so she could walk without a limp. We gave her condroitin msm supplement & bone broth & now she doesn’t need medication even tho she’s old now. Age is not always the reason for joint pain that can cause grouchiness. We enjoy your videos very much & we all love Todd & his button requests.

My wife was sleeping, and i got up at 5am. to spend time with them before work. He takes the Jingle Ball downs stairs on the hardwood and crashes it into the bedroom door. He has to wait until she is up. The mousey dispenses his prescription cat food, which he gets in the morning and evening. He had his morning allotment and had to wait for his dinner.
It looked like Todd was having 'one of those days' when he staggered twice while going to the buttons he wanted. I know you said his infection throws his balance off so I'm not too concerned yet.
No, that is within his "normal" and may be why he was not in a great mood.

The mousey dispenses his prescription cat food and he gets it twice a day. his intake is monitored for his health. He takes the Jingle Ball downstairs and roll it on the hardwood floor and against the doors. IT is very loud on my wife was sleeping. He has to wait until she wakes up

Yes there is much to communicate without buttons but agree they are a helpful for understand the what they want. What is maybe not obvious is that the words must all be modeled and owners must look for their response. A pause for thinking then a behavior expressing it. That pause is absolutely necessary with or without buttons and then to look for a response action to give you the hint on what they want. Want pets? Lean into my hand… etc.I have six cats but only one that uses buttons so the same methods are for all of them. Those queues absolutely changed everything!

The mousey is sitting on the floor close to him. It gets filled with prescription food. He is asking for it to be filled. This is a treat given twice a day in addition to his meal. He can't have it as often as he wants or he would over eat.

I love tuxedo cats, and he is so sweet and pretty that I don't know how you resist tucking him under your arm and walking around with him all day like a child with their favorite stuffed toy. Except . . . he might not like that so much. 😆 I have noticed that some of the animals just like to state the obvious (just like all of the rest of us 🙂), and Todd was likely saying Glamour's name simply because she showed up. Well, I think she showed up, hard to tell from my chair here at home. 🙃
I was thinking more about those Orbs of Sadness. Cats love tuna, and tuna makes everything stink. Seal an OOS in a ziplock with some tuna, then see if Todd will play with it. If he does, then there is hope for the other rejected orbs. If not, it truly may be a color thing - and the quest will continue . . . 🕵♀

I don't know if RUclips did it, or someone complained that it was spam because I included links to eBay. Very frustrating because I think I found the ball that Todd likes, but if not, then a few alternatives that didn't have white.
Hopefully, if I don't copy over the link, I won't be removed for saying the word eBay and giving the title "Cat Play Balls with Bells. Comes In A 2 Pack By Tiny’s. Brand New In The Package" Fingers crossed this doesn't get removed!

@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks Todd is a fluffy fella with very refined tastes it seems, and little but the One And Only will do for him. If this backup attempt doesn't work, maybe take a close photo of it with ruler to show its size, plus a clear image of the bell inside, and any manufacturer marks on it, and then put on RUclips under a Post. Maybe label it 'Wanted.' Not a video or a short, though you can do that as well, but Posts can be just images or comments without video, and it could be referenced easily for anyone checking to see if they found it. I don't put anything up so don't know exactly how to do this, but it seems Posts appear under the Community tab. I just checked yours, and nothing is there, so it could be a new trick for you. Todd is keeping his human actively engaged, too.😄

The mousey is a food dispensing toy designed to slow his eating. He eats prescription food and the amount is monitored. He already had what he was allowed at that time.

This reminds me of people who put a treat on a dog's nose and make the dog wait for permission to eat it.
How so? The Mousey is a food treat and his food intake is monitored. He gets the treat mousey once in the morning and once in the evening. He had requested and received his morning mousey so how is telling him he has had it and can have again in the evening equivalent to placing food on his nose and making him wait?
I could watch this all day how do they learn all those buttons?
Thank you! It is all modeling. I press the button then show and explain the word to him. I repeat until the connection between the word and the button is made. This is over simplified of course but you get the idea.
