Totally reasonable. A friend recently expanded her pup’s set of buttons which happened to include the words Stop & Wet for two unrelated purposes. Well, now when my friend showers, her pup can be heard pressing the wet button, repeatedly. Very cute. Now here comes the “awww that’s so sad” part. The pup made the connection that my friend was making it “rain indoors” and could stop it. So after a particularly long summer with minimal rain, it finally downpoured a few weeks ago. Her pup pulled her to the buttons, said “Stop. Wet” then went over to the glass slider & stared out then looked up with the saddest brown puppy eyes you ever did see. My friend had to explain that she couldn’t control the outdoor rain, only the indoor rain.

Maybe it's not just for the sole purpose of talking. My cat harasses me every now and then so I stop the rain, since I can make the lights come and go inside the house.
We rescued a Tabby cat from a horrific abuse situation. Such a sweet boy and very quiet and timid for several months. One day we had our back deck restained and we went out to dinner. When we came home, we got ready for bed, and our cat started meowing and running around the house like he was being chased or something. He would jump on the bed and then take off running to the back of the house facing the deck. After about 15 minutes of this behavior, we finally followed him and saw a fire in the can that the contractor used to throw away the oily rags. It was up against the common fence with our neighbor. When the fire truck arrived, the fireman said we were seconds away from our house and the neighbors to the side and back from going up in flames.

@@superomegaprimemk2 Well, you don't! If you are lucky enough you get one with a natural talent to predict tremors!... I'm just joking! All animals can feel an earthquake. You just need to watch them closely for sudden changes in their usual behaviour. Some won't even want to eat or drink, will meow or won't purr if you try to pet them. (I'm talking about cats). In extreme cases, they can even scratch or bite you!
Orange cats are far more loving than most humans will ever be. I've literally never met a kind and intelligent person who mocks animals. If you are making fun of orange cats, that tells me you are lacking...
I called mine 'the twins' looked identical (solid black) except for 3 white hairs on the chest of one cat. 3! Friends & Acquaintances were saying, "You have twins?" Ha!

I'm impressed as heck. When you have 50 words to choose from, and you're trying to convey "an earthquake is imminent," I reckon "ouch want noise" is a pretty solid choice. Nice circumlocution, Justin.

I believe originally they were created to help children, especially those with autism, to learn words and how they're pronounced? There is this big study still currently in progress about cats and dogs being able to learn words enough to communicate, and the process is really similar to that so the tools were just really handy. Right now the consensus is that cats and dogs are more likely to learn words if they hear it in their owner's voice, so the buttons can record you saying the word and you should repeat it the same exact way every time so they can catch on. If you say it with a different inflection from the recording, or someone else says it, it becomes a lot more difficult for them to understand that you mean the same thing.
It was a woman who did it with her dog and was a speech pathologist or something like that and she used her knowledge and training to create this button system for her dog!
My rescues taught me to recognize earthquakes were happening. We live in a state that gets on an average of over 300 quakes a year (deep ones that most of us don't feel). Their behavior would become very uneasy/agitated/fearful a few hours before and leading up to "the event". Once they calmed I'd check the Internet earthquake site. Yep, each time...an earthquake.
I'm guessing I'm part cat/or other asst. animal! I can feel earthquakes that my friends and family do not feel. I'll ck it out online too ... yep! I also have hyper-sensitives senses, like my hearing is over the top, I can smell things others don't notice ... like what brand of beer my hubby drank at the bar. Me: "You had Coors 🍻 tonight, right?" Hubs: "How'd you know?"😂 Next week " Miller Light"🍺😉ect. ect.
@@bonniemoerdyk9809 Most likely you are clairvoyant as well (a sensitive). Know when someone needs help, is sick, etc. Get "a feeling" that persists. Or you shake a strangers hand at introduction and your hair stands up on your neck, you are nauseated or you sense a black color around yourself. You are sensing that person is someone to stay clear of. You know something you can't explain. You briefly imagine a scenario that is a mere flash and you chalk it up to a creative mind. It later happens as you imagined. (You had a vision.) You sense you are not alone when you know for a fact you are. (Unseen visitor.) Stuff like that. Yes, I am a sensitive. Another Minnesotan here. Thank you for adopting from a shelter! I do animal rescue as I am able to, mostly cats, but have helped a bird and some opossum. My dad would do 90 on the interstate trying to get me home to rest. I was sick so often the truancy officer was called. The nurse had to vouch for me that i really was sick. And I learned as an adult that it really is potentially damaging to your insides because the endometrial tissue that forms where it shouldn't turns into scar tissue. I'm getting stabbing pains where my ovaries are when I have to go to the bathroom. The only reason I haven't had surgery to deal with it is due to a shortage of IV fluids caused by the hurricane in the carolinas and the holidays. This new year, I'm getting this shit dealt with once and for all. It's an absolute travesty that people don't know two decades intot he 21st century. Women need to talk about problems with our periods more. BTW, the other disorder to be checked for is polycystic ovarian syndrome. That leaves physical markers though. And it can be detected with an ultrasound and hormone screening. You only need two out of three criteria to be diagnosed with it. In spite of having the physical markers (facial hair, heavy figure) my ultrasounds and hormone tests were negative. So they're moving on to endometriosis. Both conditions can take YEARS to be found, can cause further health problems, can cause fertility issues (doesn't bother me any, I don't want kids, but for those who want them, it can be a huge source of anguish and anxiety not being able to get pregnant and not being able to find out why.)

He is classically beautiful, his head and the long tapered muzzle, and the perfectly shaped mane. Like one of the lions on the New York Public Library, really. So OK, I'll give him the possibility of having an affinity for language, even though he's not a primate. You realize what a big deal a construction like "water outside" would be, right?
It is unlikely the cat would be able to understand "water" as in rain and then translate that to a silly button. Thank you for citing one of our beautiful New York Public Library lions. 😀
@@o0o371 it's weird; while I think a lot of button pet videos are nonsense, I think people have learned to make it work if their pet was smart enough. my cats definitely know what "spray" means. if I said "water" or "rain" when it was raining they would figure it out very fast. a button that makes the word come out of a speaker rather than my mouth wouldn't change their understanding. cats are stubborn, but very smart. words and phrases my cats know and totally understand but choose to ignore when it pleases them: no, down, 'not for you', let's get some food, are you hungy, whatcha doin?, c'mere!, who's a good girl?, and OUT
I can’t get any of my four cats to use the buttons no matter what I do. When the treats come out, they lose their mind and NOTHING else matters. I swear they would sell my wife and I for a handful of treats if they could.

I'm older now, and just recently lost my last little girl. Sje lived to be 21 which I'm told is equivalent to 100 in human years. I had her since she was born, and we got to be like those old married couples you hear about, where one always seems to know what the other one is thinking. But over the years of my life, we were like our own little animal shelter. It seemed that critters in trouble or who needed some help, found their way to us, or us to them. We always seemed to have a house full of little critters ( and some not so little ), but we loved it. They were our family. We always found that critters who didn't have a home, or had been abandoned or abused, were the best pets. It was like they really appreciated a good home where they were loved and taken care of. We had everything from rats, hamsters, chinchillas, ferrets, cats, little dogs, big dogs, a cockatiel, etc etc, and we loved them all. As much as we showered them with love and care and attention, we always felt that they gave us so much more than we gave them. Now, and often, I enjoy the many fond memories that they gave us, and if we had to do it all over again, the only thing we might change, would be to try to take in and help even more critters. When Malenki ( which means " little " in Ukrainian ), my last little girl passed away, it broke my heart. it was her time, and she didn't suffer. I was with her right to the end. It was not the first time that happened with one of our beloved pets, but, I guess as she was the last one to go, it was particularly hard, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. I am not quite ready to get another pet yet, but when I am, I already know what I'll do. I'll go to our local animal shelter, and adopt the oldest, most unadoptable cat they have, and I'll give them an awesome home for the rest of their life. And when it's their time, I'll go and get another one, and do the same thing, and so on. I have always been a big supporter of our local shelter, and when it's my time, I had already made arrangements that - if I have a cat at the time - they will come and get them, and give them a good home for the rest of their life. I have had this item in my estate planning for a long time, and I left the shelter plenty of money to do that, with lots left over to help other little critters that need help. None of us knows exactly how long we have left, but I can't think of any way that I would rather spend my however many last years, than doing that. Many people have causes that are close to their heart, and there are a lot of different ones, but that's mine.
Sorry you lost your little girl Melanki. Thank you for your story and mission. I have 3 rescues and they are adorable. So I know/share your sentiments about how much they give back. Good luck with new fur baby.

So sorry for your loss of your dear cat. Good morning, friend. That is SO amazing!! He told you about the loud noise before the Earthquake hit!! His little ears could hear that! Neffy had let me know before our area had a 6.4 Earthquake several years ago! He meowed very big and came right into my arms. I held onto him through the shaking. I love that you have those buttons for your kitties! I am going to have to get some for Neffy too. He does everything he can to communicate and those may help him. Thank you very much for sharing.
My cat also predicts earthquakes. I suspect most animals do. Though most don't have buttons to talk about it. I just pay close attention to their behaviour, since cats mostly communicate with body language.
Cats change your life forever. I been saying someone needs to invent a collar some how that when your cat meows the different sounds it translate to English. I don't if it would be possible but I would buy it.
Aww...the triplets! 😂 I had a litter of 6 that I was unable to find homes for...so they became OUR sextuplets! After about 6-7 months, I get too attached, and can no longer give them up. So now, we have 9 cats...the momma (3 yrs) and her six babies (2 yrs)...plus a rescued kitten that we nursed back to life/health (4 months)...and our newest baby that we found on the side of the road about a week ago that still needed to be bottle fed (3 weeks!)
Apparently animals can detect quakes before us. From what we know, usually up to a minute before the quake, there’s a loud boom, this is the plate’s initial movement. The sound travels through the ground often at a frequency that we can’t hear. Then, after around a minute, the ground shakes as the impact catches up to the sound. Apparently the sound is rather loud, we can now detect it with special equipment to give us warnings before it hits. It may explain Justin’s use of ‘Ouch.’ Followed by ‘Noise.’ Loud possibly painful noise, as his ears are far more sensitive than ours. As for if he knew what it actually was? We don’t know. He could have simply been stating that there was a loud noise that hurt his ears. Or, he could’ve been fully aware of what it meant, and was trying to say ‘hey, the grounds gonna be all weird soon’.
An orange tabby that came with a new couple in our building kept staring at my hub Robert. When I’d come from the market he was always outside, but I never saw him until he started “talking” to me with these sounds that weren’t meows. The third time I scooped him up took him inside and lay him on top of Rbt who was in bed. He never left Rbt’s side after that. Smartest cat I’ve ever known, and I’ve known a few🐈
Why would you take him inside if it's not your cat tho? I see this a lot with cat lovers...so weird to me😖That's someones pet... I hope you didn't keep him and let him go not too long after that?
I like your "catio" I have an indoor chicken, but I'd like an enclosed outdoor place for her when the either is good too. I've roked outside on a farm; and you learn to "listen" to the horses and wildlife around. I had a heck of a time ith them one night, they shouted for me urgently. There didn't appear to be anything wrong, but by the time my feet hit the ground at the first gate I could feel the tremor. I once had a fiercly independent racehorse stallion shove his face into my jacket for protection when there as thunder and lightning. It's okay, buddy. I feel you. we all feel like toddlers when we are scared.

Yah it’s sooo bizarre how they can use their butt or back feet without looking. My dog does this too.
@@Anisky123 They probably have greater proprioception in their back legs than we do. We probably evolved to have most of that control and awareness in our hands since we have thumbs but because they don't they're more aware of and have greater control of their back limbs. I'm sure there are some humans who have that ability (people who do things that require them to train their legs, e.g. dancers, gymnasts) but I have poorer than normal proprioception in general so it's not me, lol.
He is clever. Does that make him a smart ass?

The cat can feel the low primary tremor before the secondary vibrations.
1:44 scientists, gets a bunch of cats and train them to do this. There, now you have an earthquake alert system.
@@Karina_Engr And a very precise one, too!😁
But how do you train a cat to warn you that a quake is coming?
@@superomegaprimemk2 Well, you don't! If you are lucky enough you get one with a natural talent to predict tremors!... I'm just joking! All animals can feel an earthquake. You just need to watch them closely for sudden changes in their usual behaviour. Some won't even want to eat or drink, will meow or won't purr if you try to pet them. (I'm talking about cats). In extreme cases, they can even scratch or bite you!

I called mine 'the twins' looked identical (solid black) except for 3 white hairs on the chest of one cat. 3!
Friends & Acquaintances were saying, "You have twins?" Ha!
Lol, when we rescued two beautiful black cats five years ago, I told our family members that we had adopted twin boys - the wide eyed looks of horror I got (before we told them they were cats), were hilarious 🤣😻🇦🇺❤xx
I'm impressed as heck. When you have 50 words to choose from, and you're trying to convey "an earthquake is imminent," I reckon "ouch want noise" is a pretty solid choice. Nice circumlocution, Justin.
A noise that wants to bring harm?

@@catc8927- Yes, there will never be another Billi. 😢
Well, that's one way to find out.
whoever invented those buttons that was genius
Where do you buy them?

Cats are very intelligent and a lot of them have a wickedly keen sense of humor.
True that❤
My rescues taught me to recognize earthquakes were happening.
I'm guessing,..you live in California, too ....
Me: "You had Coors 🍻 tonight, right?" Hubs: "How'd you know?"😂 Next week " Miller Light"🍺😉ect. ect.
What they're sensing are the p waves that precede the actual quake. They're more sensitive to the sensation.
@@jessiejames2155
Surprisingly, no.
@@bonniemoerdyk9809 Most likely you are clairvoyant as well (a sensitive). Know when someone needs help, is sick, etc. Get "a feeling" that persists. Like driving....."turn here" or "wait awhile" or "postpone". Or some one from a very distant past shows up in your dream and you learn later that person passed away.
(You had a vision.)
You sense you are not alone when you know for a fact you are. (Unseen visitor.)
Stuff like that.
Yes, I am a sensitive. It is a gift to be cherished. Learning to listen and paying attention strengthens the gift. It will make you a better friend, sibling, parent and professional.

I've had this problem since I was a teenager; Agonizing pain, terrible diarhea, throwing pain meds back up if they aren't taken at the exact start of the cycle WITH food, flow so heavy that if you don't wear the heaviest duty pads you'll stain, getting anemia, getting wiped out and sleeping for HOURS.

I can’t get any of my four cats to use the buttons no matter what I do. When the treats come out, they lose their mind and NOTHING else matters. I swear they would sell my wife and I for a handful of treats if they could.
Maybe best they don't have a way of communicating with other humans. They'd be hammering 'stranger, more, take them, more' at anyone who handled a treat within 24 hours of meeting them :)

You have a great and meaningful life. Thanks for taking care of all the critters!!!😺😺😺

So sorry for your loss of your dear cat. Your post worries me a bit because having lost 2 cats to FIP, I understand how hard it is, but also because I read in a newsletter from Cornell vet college that cats can be successfully treated for this. Perhaps the cure isn't always successful? I'm sure there must be mitigating circumstances, and you did all that could be done. Forgive my curiosity, but wonder I'd you have more info. There were many complications to getting the treatment, first because I think we may have needed to ship it in from Europe (and we wouldn't have gotten it in time) and it was going to be out of our budget because it was barely available in Canada. Our little kitty, Doongie, passed away less than a month after we knew he wasn't well. It was so fast. But we hugged him for a month straight and let him know how special he was. He didn't lose his spirit once. I still miss him every day. Thank-you for your kind comment.

I had a litter of 6 that I was unable to find homes for...so they became OUR sextuplets!
It may explain Justin’s use of ‘Ouch.’ Followed by ‘Noise.’
Loud possibly painful noise, as his ears are far more sensitive than ours.
As for if he knew what it actually was? We don’t know. He could have simply been stating that there was a loud noise that hurt his ears. Or, he could’ve been fully aware of what it meant, and was trying to say ‘hey, the grounds gonna be all weird soon’.
Thank you for being such a good cat owner❤❤❤❤
An orange tabby that came with a new couple in our building kept staring at my hub Robert. When I’d come from the market he was always outside, but I never saw him until he started “talking” to me with these sounds that weren’t meows.
The third time I scooped him up took him inside and lay him on top of Rbt who was in bed.
He never left Rbt’s side after that.

So you stole someone's cat. What the hell is wrong with some people?
Cats. Acting as a unit. Good brothers
What a sweet and wonderful story. I absolutely love cats ad kittens and I have always had a lot of them. I loved this video.
