My boy is 14 and his back is where his arthritis was first noticeable, he was sensitive when she prodded it gently during an exam. My vet is amazing and knows to check this in older cats. Todd is so perceptive to notice this and mention it to you. I think he knew it wasn’t quite an ‘ouch’, but that Glamour wasn’t comfortable - he’s such a sweet boy!
Todd is so smart it's scary. And how thoughtful of him to tell you about Glamour when she can't tell you herself. I give one of my cats Cosequin for arthritis.
That’s such a beautiful thing, by giving Todd the gift of human language, he has already made them more than worthwhile just to find out that glamour’s back is sore. Usually we don’t find out until our animals can’t hide the pain or illness any more. Todd definitely earned those treats.
Honestly, if people put down their phones long enough to observe their pets, they would know. I know all 5 of our dogs so well, that a single minimal change, I will notice. It usually doesn't equal pain, thank goodness, but tells me they are trying to tell me something, so I put devices down and pay attention to my pets! But I am also GenX so I know how to survive without my phone.
@@lilythebassetpuppy Agree with you, though it's being said that about cats it's harder to see. Since I have had both cats and dogs, it may be easier with dogs, but when paying attention to a cat, one does learn to understand their individual quirks and see if sth is not ok. What exactly is not ok, may be hidden from us, but cats too are definitely not themselves if in pain etc. Stupid thing that the vet didn't believe me when I thought our senior had possible cancer or kidney issues, and then 2 months later she had to be put down for cancer. 😢 And yes, she was playful etc until her very last days, but other things told me long before that she is not ok. Then again, I don't think that she would have wanted treatment and it might not have prolonged her life so much - and her life quality should be most important, more than the longevity...I do hope and think that her life was mostly happy, but wonder what she would have told me if I would have had such buttons for her...she was such a clever girl, and very much a nurse cat to the whole family. Miss her.
@@lilythebassetpuppyI've had both dogs and cats, sick and healthy. They're different. Vets say it's harder to tell when a cat is sick or in pain because their instincts tell them to hide their pain and discomfort for as long as they can. That limit is going to be different for each cat, of course, so some will show it sooner than others. It's not just a matter of staying off your phone and monitoring your cat. Sometimes, you can pay attention to your cat all the time and not even own your phone, but the symptoms your cat shows are so few or non-existent, you don't know the problem. Sometimes, even vets miss what's wrong with the cat.
This soundboard is literally an AAC device for cats. I guess humans and cats are the same in that an inability to speak verbally doesn't mean a lack of things to say.
Aww, "want happy" shows that Todd is very empathic and wishes her all the best, that's so sweet. He must have observed her attentively and is concerned. I hope Glamour feels better soon.
I'm so impressed with the way that Todd thinks very carefully about how he wants to communicate what he wants to say. We can literally see him sitting there and thinking about how to tell you what's wrong with Glamour. With only a very limited number of words at his disposal, it's so interesting to see how he puts them together to say something that he doesn't have a button for. It's also interesting to see that he used the buttons to tell you something about another cat, and not himself. I wonder if he'll do this again. You're so lucky to have this special relationship with Todd.❤❤

That is certainly a possible meaning for the buttons he pushed but not in this case. The reason I went to an issue with Glamour’s back is the look on Todd’s face and body posture. Todd communicates with me very well without his buttons. I could tell he was very concerned about something. I had also just returned from a 7-day business trip, while my wife was here Glamour and Todd are bonded to me so they do not interact with her the same way they do with me. Cats really do care about eachother. We were staying with my mom once and her cat came rushing in the house yelling at me. I figured he was telling me about my cat since he doesn't talk to me much. Sure enough, I went outside and there was my cat doing something she wasn't supposed to. I was able to get her away from harm and my mom's cat went out and watched the whole thing as if he was relieved. I couldn’t imagine my life without these beautiful furballs. ❤
In the dog world, we just leash til they're old enough not to kill themselves (inside and outside). All dogs respond to a super loud EH EH EH! They freeze. Lol useful tool, especially when it's very rare to use it.

And people say our animals don't understand us. They obviously do, we just need to learn to listen and these boards are incredible. Todd is one handsome and lovely boy.
This is the absolutely perfect video to show anyone who still does not believe in buttons. I hope Glamour feels better soon. Todd is always mindful of her, so it makes sense he’d bring it up. It’s interesting that he thought it was important enough to mention it right away instead of asking about getting some cuddles or if he can play, then bringing up his concerns about her. This really makes me want to get a set of these items for Neffy so that he can have a good communication tool too. He is already very communicative, but this might help take it up a notch. Thank you very much for sharing, friend. Wishing you and Todd a lovely day today!
It truly is amazing what cats know and haven’t been able to express it since now! They do know bits of our language like how a two year old would know!
Our animal friends communicate so much to each other and know so much more than we realize! Thank goodness Todd was able to tell you about Glamour's back!
I agree, it may have taken a few days to notice. I check on my babies everyday but Glamour is spicy to say the least and uncomfortable Glamour is not much different from normal Glamour.
Can't help but think that his rub against your legs when yousaid "Glamour back ouch" is his equivalent of a head pat and a treat to you for being smart
Todd the spokescat for the win! "Do you think Glamour's Back ouch?" Todd rubs against his human as a reward for being so smart and getting it on the first try. Hope Glamour is well. Might be worth considering some hot discs for her to lay on. These soothe muscles for cats in poor health. My vet stocks them.
You raise an important point. It seems to me that when trying to increase communication with our companion animals by teaching them to use *our* language, we also need to be observant of and open to *their* natural means of communication. Our pets are communicating with us all the time and often we probably aren't catching the full context of what they are trying to tell us, although anyone who loves a pet knows that after awhile you both get to understand each other pretty well. Thus, if Todd's sentence using the buttons is important, so are the other cues he would naturally use to get his meaning across. It's tempting to want him to use buttons to confirm his Dad got it right, but maybe he doesn't think that's necessary if his affectionate caress was his reply. Not trying to lay down absolutes here, just speculating about the "mixed media" cats (and dogs) might choose to use to communicate.
@@mountainkimmie Oh, I agree with you. With cats, it's also worth keeping in mind that they're the only animals to have domesticated themselves. So cats in particular are likely to engage in training us.
I found your channel again after a bit and I was just thinking about this, though I was thinking for a human. I'm happy that he was thinking about Glamour. These kinds of things, we need to see more of, maybe to finally convince people that animals can and do think beyond just the basics of eating, sleeping, playing and reproducing.
I bet your wife (and the vet) still thinks it's wild when you tell her things like "Todd told me that Glamour's back hurts" because even though we watch all of these videos (and the vet has confirmed previous times Todd said something hurt) i am still super impressed each time something so awesome happens! ❤

His is the best, I love that boy so much
Wow! Truly amazing! How did you teach the cat to use the word buttons?😊
Todd is not only extremely intelligent, he is also very empathetic. It is always fascinating to see what goes on in his head.
Me too. He amazes me daily
Wow! That is truly amazing!❤️
That's one intelligent and empathetic cat. Good boy
Thank you
Todd is so smart it's scary. And how thoughtful of him to tell you about Glamour when she can't tell you herself.
I give one of my cats Cosequin for arthritis.
He is a very smart and thoughtful boy.
That’s such a beautiful thing, by giving Todd the gift of human language, he has already made them more than worthwhile just to find out that glamour’s back is sore. Usually we don’t find out until our animals can’t hide the pain or illness any more. Todd definitely earned those treats.
I agree. Todd was amazing. He has told me when he hurt on the past but never someone else.
Miss her.
When he gave you the kitty hug (leg rub) it was like he was so glad you understood
First time I’ve been to a Todd talk instead of a TED talk!
I love that the first thing he wanted to do was let you know Glamour was hurting. What a sweet guy! Animals are amazing
This soundboard is literally an AAC device for cats. I guess humans and cats are the same in that an inability to speak verbally doesn't mean a lack of things to say.
Correct on both points
Aww, "want happy" shows that Todd is very empathic and wishes her all the best, that's so sweet.
He must have observed her attentively and is concerned. I hope Glamour feels better soon.
I thought it was an interesting choice as well. He didn't say ouch, which he knows, it was more I want her to feel better.
The way he rubbed against you right after you asked that is as if he’s saying yes now I am concerned.
Todd is just a good cat
I'm so impressed with the way that Todd thinks very carefully about how he wants to communicate what he wants to say. We can literally see him sitting there and thinking about how to tell you what's wrong with Glamour. With only a very limited number of words at his disposal, it's so interesting to see how he puts them together to say something that he doesn't have a button for. It's also interesting to see that he used the buttons to tell you something about another cat, and not himself. I wonder if he'll do this again.
You're so lucky to have this special relationship with Todd.❤❤
Thank you, and I am blessed by our bond we have. He amazes me daily.
I swore I’d stop subscribing to channels. My algorithm is fried. Seriously it’s bi-polar because my subs are all over the place. Damn it Todd. You made me fall off the wagon with your cuteness.
I'm glad you are here and you fell into some of the softest fur around 😊
Don't feel bad, he got me too😂
That’s Doctor Todd, thank you very much.
😊
Do you think he could be used as a translator at a vet when a cat is feeling bad but they can't find anything definitely wrong
@@Angelica-cp2zw 0.0 BEGINNING DOCTOR KITTY TRAINING NOW.
@@Angelica-cp2zw I try never taking him out anywhere unless it is needed. He has a chronic immune system issue and stress or illness can be very bad for him. I try not to expose him to either
It's only been 2 minutes and I'm already in love with Todd. So polite, patient, and laid-back.
My first instinct was that he was saying you’re back cool now glamour will be happy
I examined Glamour and she did seem like she was uncomfortable and her back seemed sensitive when I felt it. I took her to the vet and the exam and x-rays confirmed an issue with her back. If you are interested in what the vet said here are the update videos.

@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks very cool. I’ve been teaching my dog to use buttons but she’s like a broken record lol might be time to teach my cat now 😊
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks that's amazing. Huh. I wouldn't have expected that from most cats.
I like the ones that act just like dogs and never bit or scratched anyone. (Got a very nasty infection from a cat I tried to be nice to looking at houses...bit me)
would Todd know the double meaning of the word "back"?
That look on his face and the ears while he is looking for the right word… wow!
Todd is very particular about the words he chooses. He really thinks what he wants to say.
They do look out and care for each other.
In the dog world, we just leash til they're old enough not to kill themselves (inside and outside).
All dogs respond to a super loud EH EH EH! They freeze. Lol useful tool, especially when it's very rare to use it.
This is beautiful 😢❤
And note to other cat owners: if our cat's behaviour changes, even a little, observe your cat. They cannot tell us, they can only show us and we might not get it. My cat pissed my bed, i checked his litter business - all good, looked at him closely and i found his gums were very red, poor thing was had some teeth pain, vet called asap😔 now it's all good😊
This is the main reason I want Todd to be able to tell me when he is not feeling well or hurting.
I do believe cats talk to eachother psychically. I hope Glamour is ok. So amazing that Todd can speak for himself and others. ❤
I agree
All animals do, including between species. They don't misunderstand each other, they know full well what the other is communicating.
I definitely believe too that cats use body language to talk with each other, so he must have seen from Glamours body language that she has some pain.
Yes, the scientist Rupert Sheldrake writes about this.
@@teijaflink2226 I think its more than body language... the other button talking cat Russell from "catmanjohn" channel tells his mom when his cat siblings want certain toys to play with, or certain foods they want to eat (like wet or dry food)... which would take more than body language to know.
And people say our animals don't understand us. They obviously do, we just need to learn to listen and these boards are incredible. Todd is one handsome and lovely boy.
Thank you
Such a neat cat.
The sentience, engagement, etc. is extra.
Nothing in life's better than critters.
My algorithm never disappoints
Facts
This is the first time I have seen Todd. He is an impressive little guy. 🥰
Thank you
I just lost my 19yo childhood dog, I couldn’t imagine what it would feel like losing her I’d talked to her like this all her life.
Oh, I am so sorry for your loss. They are truly family. I'm glad you are here.
Todd is a doctor… just like my Leo 🐈⬛
This cat is more intelligent than most people!!
Aw, Todd is displaying how empathic and altruistic cats are when it comes to their family. I hope Glamour's back is happy soon. Happy 4th of July!
Thank you, the same to you and yours
I'm so glad Todd could communicate his concern to you. I hope that there is nothing seriously wrong with Glamour.
I think she is, but I would rather be safe.
In the relatively short time I’ve been watching, he’s tackled bigger and bigger concepts as he teaches himself (and you) to combine words & phrases.
He’s such a good boy. 💜
I hope y’all have a great holiday & that the vet visit is uneventful because she’s feeling better. 🎇🎆
Thank you so much 😊
Great observations. Todd is very special.
Yes I think this is one of the main reasons people need to help with communication boards for the animals that live with them.. very impressive
Thank you 😊
😢It’s like he’s informing but also sharing because that’s stressful and dad was away. ❤
Yes it was
What a good boy, he couldn’t wait to tell you, hope Glamour is ok🤞
Me too, thank you.
Cats are like little security guards... super protective.. not too big on being social.. suspicious of all who dares enter their domain...
Wow! Just so wonderful for Todd to tell you that Glamour wasn´t feeling well and beeing in pain. Now that is COMMUNICATION between species !!!!
Ageed!
Good boy, Todd! How incredibly intelligent and compassionate he his.
He really is 😊
Todd seems to be thinking, how can I say this in the simplest way, so my human understands. Too adorable!
Todd is such a great little guy, imagine if he is able to alert you early enough to issues that you may not find out till later when it is a bigger issue.it is amazing what they know and we do not realize they are aware of. I hope all the kitties have a nice calm night and not get too scared of fireworks.
Thank you. This is why I wanted Todd to learn to talk. Todd has a chronic condition where he can get very sick very fast, and I want him to be able to tell me before he shows signs.
I hope Glamour is alright. Todd is so empathetic. It is truly amazing to witness him communicate like this.
Thank you, it is.
Todd has an amazing understanding. We know animals are on things before we are but he knew how to say it to get you to take action.
Thank you so much
I thought he meant Glamour had scratched his back…. But he is so smart, by not using want happy rather than ouch he showed that his feelings were for her. Beautiful soul ❤❤❤ well done Dad for raising such a sweet boy 🎉
Yes that is the way I took it as well. More of a I want her to feel better.
One must imagine Todd happy.
That's amazing! What a wonderful boy he is.
I think so too!
That’s amazing. I’m sad to realize how much I’m missing with my dogs!!
What a good boy Todd is! Being in my early 60s, I want my back happy too, which it isn't, a lot of the time, so I can empathize with Glamour.
Thank you. I hope you find some relief for your back ouch
Maybe try a chiropractor? I've had one many years. Helps, even w scoliosis. Massage therapy, too.
@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 Thanks. One of my brothers suggested a chiropractor too.
I like how you can almost see the gears turning as the cat tries to think of what buttons to press.
This is very special. The fact that he told you that Glamour was having back problems is amazing. Cats are very empathetic and do care. This really makes me want to get a set of these items for Neffy so that he can have a good communication tool too. He is already very communicative, but this might help take it up a notch. Thank you very much for sharing, friend. Wishing you and Todd a lovely day today!
Thank you. If you do try it with your baby and ha e any questions feel free to ask, I'll help if I can.
I wish I’d had this for my cats. What a great help.
It truly is amazing what cats know and haven’t been able to express it since now! They do know bits of our language like how a two year old would know!
Agreed, and they are much smarter than people give them credit for
Our animal friends communicate so much to each other and know so much more than we realize!
Sometimes I think some animals are smarter than many humans..... If we stop and listen to them, they communicate quite well!
I was on Bunny’s page & a commenter mentioned Todd! So great to see another intelligent animal that cares! ❤
Please keep us posted 🙏🐈
Will do, thank you.
I'm just imagining you taking her in, the vet asking what made you notice the issue, and hearing, "My other cat told me."
I love it!
Awww. That is so sweet of Todd to be concerned about Glamor. Some cats are so empathetic! I love that.
Thank you
Todd the spokescat for the win!
"Do you think Glamour's Back ouch?"
Todd rubs against his human as a reward for being so smart and getting it on the first try.
Hope Glamour is well. Might be worth considering some hot discs for her to lay on. These soothe muscles for cats in poor health. My vet stocks them.
I still have heating pads from a previous senior cat who lived to be 20.
Thanks for the laugh "Todd rubs against his human as a reward . . ." Worded purrrfectly.
I thought the same thing about Todd's affectionate rub. 😀
Aww it is so cute he is concerned about glamour
He is a very sweet boy
Maybe she told Todd that she was hurting
I found your channel again after a bit and I was just thinking about this, though I was thinking for a human. Cats are very sensitive to these kinds of things, so it wouldn't have surprised me at all if Todd had been able to tell that you were in pain or if you had something wrong that even you didn't realize. I'm happy that he was thinking about Glamour. These kinds of things, we need to see more of, maybe to finally convince people that animals can and do think beyond just the basics of eating, sleeping, playing and reproducing.
Awww…he sure loves his Glamour!
He really does.
I bet your wife (and the vet) still thinks it's wild when you tell her things like "Todd told me that Glamour's back hurts" because even though we watch all of these videos (and the vet has confirmed previous times Todd said something hurt) i am still super impressed each time something so awesome happens! ❤
He amazes me daily and I live with him. Lol
What a smart, aware and empathetic cat.😊

He astounds me every time! He is so smart, sweet, and caring! ❤ Hes a very special cat!
Thank you, I think so, too. 😊
Todd is a handsome kitty. God bless Todd and Glamour and their Dad. 😊
You are so kind
This is so sweet and so mind blowing. He’s just chilling, minding his business. And it’s like he suddenly remembers, “Oh yeah, Dad? Glamour said her back hurts. Wanna check that out?”
It was amazing and it was the first thing he said to me when I got back. Usually it's all want cuddles, brushes, and pets
How precious that this cat trusts you enough to talk to you. And how precious are you to listen to him.
Well I'm flabbergasted. He's keeping his eyes open while you're away - incredible! At first I thought he was saying that you were back, but he doesn't use that word except for the body part, does he?
He's your deputy.
I ha e not noticed him use it for anything else, but I would not be surprised. I believe he uses his No button for no and know.
@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks wow

Well this is the first video of yours that I've watched, and this is ridiculously impressive, so congratulations, you've earned an instant sub.
Welcome, I'm glad you are here and enjoy the videos!
If I came BACK after a long time, and my cat said "back", I'd be touched and leave it at that. If he added "want" and "happy", I'd probably understand it as "I've been wanting you to come back, so now I'm happy". There are always more than one possible interpretation with these button things. But good on you for having Glamour checked.
Thank you. Todd and I have a very special bond and we communicate very well without the buttons. I could tell he was concerned or upset about something and this was not a glad you're back. He will also tell me when I get it right if he thinks I might not understand. You will see him raise his tail after I repeat something or in this case give me the leg rub saying you got it!

What an amazing cat! Todd is kind, empathetic, and watches over his family....l love their names Glamour and Todd! GOD has created such intelligent animals and humans forget this.
Using words in a new way or to express a new thought process, is the hallmark of language. This is a step beyond that often thought to only be the purview of humans or high intelligence (like dolphins)….clearly Todd shows empathy is not just human and communication seeking cooperation is not either. Nothing short of astounding. Wow 😮
