Alphatheta dj stuff is going to be their way of testing out new ideas and things. Pioneer dj has built its brand as being consistent and solid, and not innovative. @@michaelstern5616this is a great explanation that clarifies a lot of things for me, thank you. Now AlphaTheta is able to push new features and change fundamental things to try and innovate to compete with Denon and other less popular brands while keeping Pioneer gear consistent with previous products in their line
It’s a niche mixer for a very specific subset of djs. The price reflects that and pretty fair considering other things an audiophile/vinyl purists have on hand. Not sure why so many comments are confused about this. It’s impressive and the layout looks intuitive and ergonomic, but it’s not going to be found as a permanent fixture in clubs. It will be found in some home studios.
I could see this being used in some clubs with vinyl, there’s a certain amount of amount that want to experience a certain style of music and vibe. See Sunday Sessions, where we play strictly vinyl, the crowd and vibe is really cool
Why is the question of whether or not this is going to be used in clubs important as something to consider when buying one? Surely sound quality is paramount.
What a superb sounding mixer! Big and chunky too. I just like everything about this. I even get the idea that since you can pretty much shape the shound any way you please, you dont really need stems, everything can be done in the mix. Really would like to try one of these

I suspect the DJMs will stay under the Pioneer DJ brand for years to come, but the new and different stuff will be AlphaTheta
Thank you for doing this one Jamie!! What a remarkable piece of hardware. I can feel you’re in the zone on this one, and it feels like I’m ready to make a decision on this without having to go to Guitar Center to demo, lol.
One of the big benefits of rotary mixers is the low risk of dust getting into the faders. Been using them both and almost none had to be repaired for dust problems. Of course normal wear happens on both of them.
Warning to everyone buying and a question for alphatheta; Crossfader; will this mixer have post fader serato effects? This was a big issue that was never resolved with the Rane mp 2015. As soon as you turned the rotary down, off, cut the volume there was no echo, reverb, no tail on the effect. It was instant off. Rane blamed Serato; Serato blamed Rane and it was never addressed. This was not the case with Traktor so it wasn’t a hardware issue. Please demand Alphatheta Serato and anyone reviewing to be clear and go on record before you buy the mixer to use with Serato. Crissfader, will you please clarify if this mixer will have post fader serato effects when used with Serato Software?
ALPHA the maker of the crossfaders in the best scratch mixers of the golden era of hip hop DJing have made a rotary mixer. Such a well rounded company for audio innovation.
This is the mixer I've been waiting years for. Unfortunately waaaay too expensive for the features and minus one key feature I want, which I will get into in a sec, but still this is a dream come true for me in many ways. It's 2024, so why can't you get a hybrid analogue-digital mixer with a soundcard, support for Serato (for me at least), rotaries on channels, and on-board effects. You would be forgiven for thinking we have seen several such products by now. Yes you have products from Allen & Heath like the Xone 96 that almost got there, but unfortunately without Serato support (maybe this was the reason....hmmmm). Nope. Apparently nobody dared to. It took Alpha-Theta, of all the potential candidates that you would have expected, to address this gap in the market. In fact, considering Alpha-Theta, or rather Pioneer DJ to date, have been playing it safe for so long on the innovation front, I'm actually surprised they actually spent the R&D money on such a product. However, the one thing I personally really wanted in such a product, one which I've wanted to see on all rotaries and only a small handful have managed to implement, is still missing. And that is a crossfader. Not necessarily for scratching, although that's cool too, but because using a crossfader is an ideal way to cut one or more channels off very quickly, especially if you are doing a 3 or even 4 channel mix, and do so immediately,. On some older mixers you had something like a kill switch or transformer from some of the older scratch mixers. Of course you could also use the source switch, but some of them introduce an audible click or there may be other issues going that route. Anyway, nice review. Personally not a fan of Pioneer DJ / Alpha-Theta, but this is a super-cool product and I like the direction Alpha-Theta have been going more recently, especially in the visual design aspect in products such as this one and the Omnis ones. Shame about the continued exorbitant prices though.
@@ShaunyWalkerIt would be, but the DB4 has been out of production for a number of years now. Also wouldn't call that a rotary mixer, despite it having the function to switch to rotary mode.

This really is one hell of a mixer and a completely different level of creativity - I love it! Thanks for this review, Jamie! I’d love to see rotary style come to a controller or an All in One. Ever since I’ve come back to mixing with my FLX-10 I’ve tended to use the rotary pots more than anything else, I love the blending of rotary pots and I’m usually out of a mix just off rotary and the fader still up. This mixer is class!

Really excited to play on one of these. On paper, I’ve got one beef though: for a $3700 mixer, this deserves a dedicated Hipass filter per channel, instead of including as an effect. Very curious how the filter sounds, as well.
While expensive for a dj mixer, its pretty good value for money if you compared this to the all hardware audiophile touring techno setup: Playdifferently Model 1.4 ($1800) + Antelope Audio Orion 32 ($2600) + 2 effects pedals ($600) = $5k.
I dunno, I learned to beat match and blend and honestly I've never had the need to improve the sound quality. You can have the best mixer in the world but if the venue can have a shlt system what do you do then?

Two more channels would’ve probably pushed me to consider this. Rose gold on the knobs is… well, I feel silver would be more appealing… or even just a black finish. An analog filter is needed. They came so close.

On that note have a listen to the Euphonia, truly a great sounding mixer even if the price is outrageous.
@@hypercube.audio.arizona Really? Youre going to come at me like that? To be clear Richard Long created his own isolator/crossover (the rla 3000) he later requested Rane redesign it which they did and they were branded as Rane x3000 crossovers and weren’t commercially available. He later requested they design a dj mixer and the mp 24 was created. In regards to the 2015 they took the concept of the 3000 crossover that they designed when creating the isolator for the mp 2015. Slight correction for your video intro: "Alpha Teta, the company that purchased Pioneer DJ..." It was definitely not "established" by Pioneer, not sure where you got that info from but it is totally inaccurate way to start this video
We used to have a saying "Talking about sound is like tap dancing about architecture." Your sound quality section did not include an audition of the product at all. It is not hard to show the sound quality. Do an AB with other mixers and render the video with Prores 422, that will be enough to get a feel. The amount of videos of endless talking about the mixer, I just want to hear it!!!
That would be true for Today's DJs, but back in the 80s NY DJs like Larry Levan, Tony Humphreys, Larry Patterson and all club NJ Djs used to make the song sing using rotary cross overs. Today, listen to DJ Antwayn Qua on 107 5 WBLS IHEART RADIO ON FRIDAYS AT 8PM!°💣💥💯

Why cant pioneer just stick to making products that most DJs want such as a new CDJ, new rev7 or s11 etc, instead of specialist crap that barely anyone is gonna be interested in. Ffs doesnt even have a crossfader

Guys, for the past three days, we've been inundated with praise from top experts extolling the unique qualities of this product. Allow me to counter this overwhelming wave of words by presenting three reasons why I choose not to purchase this item: 1) There's nothing I can accomplish with a rotary mixer that I can't achieve with a fader mixer. Conversely, many functions available on a fader mixer are absent on a rotary mixer. 2) If I aim to enjoy music without digital interference, I should opt for a purely analog mixer, such as an Allen&Heath, a Formula Sound, or an Ecler. However, this product isn't purely analog. 3) It's risky to purchase a product as soon as it's released. Statistically, products tend to become more reliable after being on the market for some time. This is a general rule of thumb that has never failed me. Good luck!

0:32 so basically what you’re saying is that it’s for snob audiophiles, not DJs. Got it.
How does it go with digital as opposed to vinyl?! ie. Denon SC6000's / CDJ's...
Could I use this as a summing mixer for my production through a daw
"world's most expensive mixer"? oh, my sweet summer child... you have no idea.
Haven't heard of the Orbit 6 then :)
Now is the time for Denon 💪DJ to step up to the plate, and hit it out of the ball park🎊
Make a rotary mixer that us mere "MORTALS" can afford, and you'll have a winner 👍on your hands.
Don't get caught up in studio engineer name branding, just give us, as you always do, QUALITY and BANG for BUCK👌
I learnt on a rotary mixer and much prefer than a standard mixer! Would invest in a master sounds over a pioneer all day long.
Why? This is probably better than Mastersounds rotary in many ways.
@@morlidor all put together in a Chinese sweatshop 🤷♂️👎
@@chrismurray3198
More likely manufactured in a high tech factory.
NY and NJ Club DJs like Tony Humphreys been using Rotary Mixers they were branded by...UREI. PIONEER AND RANE jumped on the bandwagon
I am really curious to know how this would compare to the Xone DB4 mixer
Its definitely prettier to look at than the db4. But with those builtin loopers and cutoff switches I feel like the db4 is hard to beat and not really for the same kind of dj.
@@bikesbeersbeats👍 I with you on that!
✌😎Cheers
Why?
sound quality and rotary customization
Are you using these with DVS control vinyl or actual vinyl?
For the modern dj all it needs is one big, fat SYNC button in the middle. Forget everything else on it
what camera did you record this video with
fan of the big knobs and buttenz.. something about the big knobs and buttons on gear.
Two more channels would’ve probably pushed me to consider this. Rose gold on the knobs is… well, I feel silver would be more appealing… or even just a black finish. An analog filter is needed. They came so close.
Alpha will be devastated with your honest opinion I don’t know why they even bothered going into business.
I don’t think the guy mentioned it in the video but I’d assume the HPF in the effects section is an analog filter. Not sure why else it would be outlined, but idk! Maybe you’re right.
Looks amazing... but the master rotary is right underneath the effects section right where your palm / wrist would be - wonder if its liable to get knocked
The best of both worlds is usually a trade-off game...I really like to try it out on a fidelity bench to check that claim
Yes, it's a different level. I'm not seeing it's better, it's different. Nice mixer. I like it 🎚️🎛️🎚️
And yes, this is first AlphaTheta's rotary mixer but i remember that Pioneer DJM-800 (I think) had a rotary version
It was even earlier than the DJM 3000Rotary. Reminds me of this one
Key feature - digital ins for CDJs - no other rotary has them. Serato, Rekord box native. Cant wait to see how this will sound on my GS Wavestack ..
Rane mp 2015 has digital ins
And the Rane mp 2015 has the best isolator till this day (with two crossover points that you can control) which is modeled after the Richard long isolator that was recreated by Rane at the request of Richard long.
This is no doubt a fantastic mixer but Rane has some technology in the Mp 2015 that remains unrivaled
@@DT1One I stand corrected. Forgot about the Rane SPDIFs .. They make great mixers for sure and have done so for many many years, I doubt however Richard Long made too many suggestions on the Rane 2015 - he's been dead since 1986. On that note have a listen to the Euphonia, truly a great sounding mixer even if the price is outrageous.
@@hypercube.audio.arizona
Really?
Youre going to come at me like that?
Re-read what I wrote. “Modeled after the Richard long isolator that was recreated by Rane at the request of Richard long.”
I don’t understand how you translated that to mean that I was referring to Richard long requesting in 2015 or present tense.
Check out the full compass 2015 RUclips video; it’s mentioned there (concept of the 3000 crossover)
Always wanted a rotary but I see no midi capability like Djm NX2? I won't be able to trigger Showkontrol🖥
I'm all about this.. I don't understand all the hate - looks epic
the pricing, that's why
Mojaxx already said you can't use a RMX500/1000 with this mixer because you'll get phase issues.
That sounds weird. I think you can use those effects wirh this mixer if you connect and adjust them properly.
Slight correction for your video intro: "Alpha Teta, the company that purchased Pioneer DJ..."
It was definitely not "established" by Pioneer,
not sure where you got that info from but it is totally inaccurate way to start this video
Great to play your ripped 320 mp3 through… the hipsters will love it though
“The weakest link in any hifi system is the source”
More like ripped 256K from youtube.
🤣🤣🤣 Right!
Urei & Bozak vibes ✌😎🎧🎚🎚🎚
Such a shame that it doesn’t have any analog effects. Unfortunately I can’t see this product doing well although it seems great.
I think it will do very well among discerning DJs Cluns and Bars all over the world.
Screw brands that use Rupert Neve’s name for marketing purposes. Everyone can put transformers in circuits these days.
Alpha Theta should focus on getting their products shipped and in stock. Not sure if making more products is the way to go atm.
99% of DJs will just turn the 3 Band Master-EQ to the right and leave it there for the whole set. 😅
I believe it does sound awesome, my only doubt here is if it is 4k euros awesome when clubs have a alternate mixer (V10) with way more functions at the same price range?
This will sound better because of the Rubert Neve transformers. It even warms up the digital stage as well.
Xone DB4 also has a rotary switch from line faders, I would really be keen to hear the comparison between that DJ mixer with this one. 🐽🎧🐽🎼
The top dj players are digital sounding, but with the dc input players and mixers , easy to add analog ultra low noise power supply. And the sound get more details, more analog and more clean. For home usage. In the clubs, i think not really matter, bcose the class d and dirty components and cheap PA drivers, and crossovers.....
print the amp sound on some audio like an analog plugin and you can show us the sound of it
I pre-ordered a week ago, and I can't wait for mine to arrive.
So will this be in clubs or is this something for rich DJs?
guess. go ahead. guess.
@@ChristianCalson for rich cocky DJs
Would love to try this with some of my old nineties hip-hop vinyl, but I have a feeling it'll be slightly out of budget...
The way this would sound on some good ole funk music mix.. take my damn money
At this point, i dont want what alphatheta is selling, i want whatever they're smoking
😂😂😂
This mixer is sick. Still love my v10 though.
i can't stand rotary volume faders on mixers, it makes me sick...
i'm not a dj and it's been a long time since i've used mixers (PA and studio) but i still have an aversion to rotary faders on mixers, always had, for purely esthetic stupid reasons. mixers should have linear, amps should have rotary, it's how god f intended... :)
love the levels/fq analyzer display. thanks for the review.
Why cant pioneer just stick to making products that most DJs want such as a new CDJ, new rev7 or s11 etc, instead of specialist crap that barely anyone is gonna be interested in. Ffs doesnt even have a crossfader
They do, alpha theta just tries something different, don't be that bothered about that 😂
Watching club DJs trying hard to sell this is brilliant.
“It sounds so good”
Whilst playing tracks on 320kps 😂
Listen I can tell you you are correct It only sounds as good as the digital file is processed. Whatever this company is smoking please stop your going to not make money with overpriced built in china equipment. There is very little market for this product. 4000.00 Your outta your mind.I own a native instrument sound card it’s the best sounding usb I have ever had and I played music from my laptop into a 20,000 dollar sound system. I doubt this unit can do anything better other than mix with dials
You're seeing the wrong djs if they're not playing aiff. Haven't touched an mp3 in a decade
A real best of both worlds would actually be if you can send the ISO to a separate channel, not hardcoded to the master like all other rottaries...but I am sure they couldn't manage to do that
Still think that AlphaTheta is the dumbest name they could've gone with. Pioneer DJ was fine and established, no idea why they had to go and change it. Some executives probably felt useless in their jobs.
No filter cutoff?
There is when you use FX sent to filter
Crazy price but this thing kinda blew my mind with the SQ of the filters. Wear decent headphones while watching this. Butter smooth and crisp.
LOL
It'll sound more amazing once everything is in the red.
Love this mixer
Where, digital out?
And I want normal aes/ebu xlr out!
Where fx channel select, I want use fx only on one Chanel, when I mixing.
Price 3800e it’s amazing.😢
Eclerdj warm 4 1600e.
I don’t understand what they think when doit, what your customers?
Their customer is the pro dj/producer. You no longer need a separate mixer for music production. It has a high end audio sound card with a Neve output. This is pro studio specs in a dj rotary mixer with effects.
I think this is a great idea for hi end house clubs to replace the MP 2016. Alpha theta is hitting the ground running !
I am a gear junkie, I will probably buy it
I knew it .. first off love a rotary mixer .. Rane 2016 has a special place .. but I said this just last year .. pioneer dj as brand is over … and to all my Serato people count the days .. now where did I put my credit card
So what's your expectation ? Denon to overtake them or completely new(new or old in the industry) player ?
can't wait for the sliding pot mods
Rotary knobs OR Linear faders? No matter what you use it doesn't matter. What is matter is the quality of the components inside!
Very interesting
With Technology today they probably manufactured that mixer in China or Taiwan for $100 each!
No they did not. It has some expensive components..
This is analog mixer or digital mixer? How does it sound compared to best analog ones if sound quality is its selling point?
It's digital and coverts to analog through the Neve transformers on every channel. It really is a game changer.
@@HouseMusicDefined no it's not. For this price you can have truly analog butigue like iso420. Is this class complient or will it be obsolete in 5 years?
@@Judasz696
This mixer probably souinds better tnan most other rotarys.
@morlidor why is that? You mean like iso420, bosak, ff6.2R or maybe henderson x4?

All of them sound good but the Alpha Theta probably has the edge...

Really missing my RANE MP2016. Thanks for the great review. You might want to check your audio which is all in mono, caused by settings either in the recording or the video export mode.
Wow...in a related story, Rolls Royce announces the release of a new jet engine for vacuum cleaners & push lawnmowers.
It's not even close to being the most expensive DJ mixer, the Union Audio Orbit 6, for example, is £5490...
Good luck!
I agree these people reviews are product pushers. Sorry this is not want people want or need
