Thanks, honestly I think I'd have preferred to be there on Saturday night; you got some really great sunset/night shots and with no rain. Still, always good to see the J in action.
I would have loved to have been able to come down and see 611 in action. Funny enough, I did recently find some footage of 611 pulling the Tennessean into Bristol on one of the old Pocahontas Glory videos.
Thanks for sharing! Unfortunately, as much as I wanted to go see the 611 that weekend, other commitments prevented me from doing so. Even so, it's great to see that 611 got some action before heading north to Strasburg.
It's a shame N&W 611 is limited to running on a railway this summer that's only 4.5 miles long. It gets to pull the cars down to Paradise, then 611 runs alongside on a siding to the rear of the consist & either pulls or tows the consist back. All the high rail out there 611 used to run on in the past and this year it's confined to a railway that's only 4.5 miles long. Gee, how fast can 611 go before it has to shut down and brake hard to stop? I've enjoyed Strasburg RR a few times now and I admire all they do to preserve railroading history. But that's like buying a new Corvette and ONLY driving it on crowded city streets. 611 is beckoning to run with her throttle wide open. The old "Loops" in North Carolina that Southern RR & NS ran for years is going to be abandoned. That would be a great run and 611 has already done it. Better get your hands on that railway before it becomes another "rails to trails". There are several abandoned railways out there. You need to get your hands on one before they all become trails. Yes, I will go see 611 at Strasburg again this year. It's too beautiful of a locomotive not to go see it again.
I don't think the loops are in any danger, there's still one freight train using them per day and NCDOT is interested in using them to get Amtrak to Asheville. Amtrak service would mean bumping the speed limit on the line back up and thus allow the possibility for 611 to lead an excursion there again assuming Amtrak relaxes their excursion policies.
I've been waiting to shoot one of these events for a long time and when it happens is when I'm in cass 🤣. Great video man. I'll be seeing her when she treks up north.
Heard it is suppose to run through Lynchburg Virginia, today, or tomorrow 5-26-2021 or 05-17-2021. It there anyway to confirm this, or is it just rumor.
I miss mainline steam! 😭 Amtrak took away so many memories that could of been made! Why restore a steam engine now knowing it won’t even get to run on the mainline.
@@SmokyMtnSteam 611 will run often at Strasburg. But not very fast. It's only a 4.5 mile long railway between Strasburg & Paradise. 611 will just get moving 25mph and have to shut down, brake & slow down to a stop. The end of the line comes quickly when the railway is only 4.5 miles long. Been there, done that. It's a great railroad & operation to go see & spend a few days. But, it is a short railway.
It's nice seeing 611 run again! Cool footage.
Thank you!
Awesome video! Glad you got to see her run again!
Thank you! Its always good to see the J in action.
611 is my favorite steamer
Awesome. I would’ve been there with you guys but the event was on a Monday. Glad you got to see it run.

@@SmokyMtnSteam yup, we’ll have each other’s videos to see what we both missed. Lol.
Good news!: 611 is returning to strasburg this month! And will stay all the way up to early october!!!! I cant wait to see her!
Yep, I'm excited to see she'll be back on the Road to Paradise this summer, hopefully I can make it up north to see her there.
This sure was a nice treat to see, especially since this wasn’t common back in the steam era
Nice job fellas, always enjoy a steam video
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video!
Very nice camera, the colors and sharpness are excellent !
Thank you, this was filmed on a Sony FDR-AX100, a Sony ZV-1, and an Azden SMX-30 microphone
Big steam and rain go together like peanut butter and jelly.
She’s back
Great video! I wish I could’ve gone.
Thanks! Honestly with all the rain you didn't miss too much.
The "look" on 611's "face" is about the same way I feel when I have to work outside when it's raining like it is in some of those shots too lol.
Great video! I was the kid who had the grey Norfolk Southern hat and the black N&W hoodie, not to mention I was the youngest person there 😂
Thanks! Always good to see more young people interested in steam, makes me feel less like a weirdo lol
I feel ya! Lol
I love to see her running, but it does suck that she's limited to low speeds.

Nice video! Though the rainy weather, it looks like the event turned out nice!!
Thanks!

I think you may have noticed already that there is 1 more 611 N.C.T.M event. The fire up behind the scenes tour on May 13th at 4pm.
I wish I could have been there. Thanks for sharing. I haven't run into you in a while. Your videos have great sound by the way.
Thanks, I use an Azden SMX-30 microphone

3:33 what was that? I heard the puffing speed up but she didn’t go any faster
Wheel slip, often occurs during wet trackage, or the engineer opening the throttle too wide
Nice video!

Its doing cab tours in Spencer today but it needs to be in Strasburg by Friday so a departure tomorrow or Tuesday seems likely.
Say it’s been 2 years since 611 ran on an excursion.
About 4 years actually, except for the Strasburg visit 611's last excursions were from Roanoke to Walton in May 2017.
I miss mainline steam! 😭 Amtrak took away so many memories that could of been made! Why restore a steam engine now knowing it won’t even get to run on the mainline.
Unfortunate the Stoker had mechanical issues before the move to the SRC.
Yeah its a real bummer.
Why she runs very slow? She usually run very fast.
Nice. A pity the engine couldn't go faster, she looks better in full cry.
Very true. It won't be her full speed but at least she'll get to run a bit more at the Strasburg Railroad this summer.
