    BIG BOY'S COMIN BACK YESSS
    Im pretty sure im going to see it and im HYPED!! The Big Boy ran for the first time in 60 years on the day of my birth, so this engine means more now than it did before, and it meant a lot to me before. My grandpa was an engineer on the Union Pacific railroad from 1940-1955, and operated the Big Boys for a small part of his career. So seeing the big boy in action is going to be the best moment in my entire life. (pretty sure no ones gonna read this but I did it anyway)

    Omg every shot is just breathtaking. I know the 4014 is incredible but the beauty of Utah and Wyoming just makes it even better

    That would be so awesome to take a train ride I'm 4014 you need to buy passenger cars from that era look hard and find them and do a round trip in the United States

    I am the outlined in the steam cloud at 5:35 on the level spot above the road taking photos . I was woke up at 4:30 am the first night home from the hospital after being born in Feb 1944 by my fathers friend "Snide" Taylor UP engineer as he laid down on the whistle to tell dad he was passing as he came around this corner. We always knew when he passed by. The house was in the canyon just behind me and the ground on both sides the railroad and highway was part of my father's farm. Was Snide at the throttle of 4014 that morning???

      Thank you, I was a little concerned that all of the distance shots would be off-putting to viewers wanting to see the train up close but Utah was just too spectacular to leave out. I look forward to visiting your part of the world one day, I really like Australian steam locomotives.

      @@SmokyMtnSteam in 1982 I was flown to Utah from New York City as an international model where I had to play the part of a truckie driver at various locations around Utah including the Great Salt Lake and Arches National Park for a German cigarette campaign called Let's Go West. I remember flying over the beautiful Wasatch Mountains and since then I have shown a great deal of interest to know about its geological formation that goes back hundreds of millions of years. Refer to the excellent geology teacher's RUclips channel Nick Zentner to know more about the geology of North America and in particular Washington State. Very interesting!

      That engine, Sierra Railroad number 3, operates at Railtown 1897 in Jamestown, California.

    Both engines are amazing! Grateful to those responsible for the preservation and restoration. BUT!
    Two big issues:
    One, they need to burn coal as they did before.
    Two, for goddam sakes, quit having these more than capable steamers linked to a diesel electric!!!!!
    It’s insulting to those magnificent classics.

      @Bo Darville,,,,I SO completely get what you’re saying! I, too, was rankled by that damn diesel! However, a rail enthusiast friend of mine explained the diesel is there, in part due to a requirement for a certain amount of dynamic braking to be required on passenger (yes, the “Great Race IS carrying passengers) trains. So the diesel could be thought of as deadweight, or ballast, for Big Boy to drag around! So Big Boy, is, indeed, “showing that young whipper-snapper (diesel) how it’s done!” ✅✅✅

      I get why the diesel is along for the ride - but why is 4014 always doubled with 844?
