Pinnacle of American ingenuity! The Big Boy can pull at least the same as 4 diesels and do the same job with class. It looks and sounds alive; how could you not love it! Bless the 4014!
I grew up north of Denver and remember back in the 70s seeing these flamboyant black steam trains heading north to Cheyenne. They were so interesting looking compared to modern engines. I say flamboyant because of those giant wheels.
My son and I saw the Big Boyi off highway 85 in Colorado 4 years ago. I have been following the Big Boy ever since . It gives me a sense of American pride!
It does have that "Tracks Ahead" type vibe to it. For anybody unfamiliar with the series Tracks Ahead, it was a show that used to air on PBS on Sundays at around 10:00am and was around for quite a while. It's unfortunate that it was taken off the air about 5 years ago, at least at the time I'm typing this comment.
Absolutely it’s a dated style of video production. Has a real 1980s and 1990s feel. Even the added in music. This could have been a Challenger video from Pentrex or Video Rails. It was a time of very inappropriate music added to train videos too. Music should really be steam appropriate which gives you two genres to choose from Big band from the decade to loco is from or old country like from Sun Records 1950s tunes

Beautiful video of their Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 (Built by American Locomotive Company in 1941) steaming for excursion service for the first time in 2019, along with UP 844 from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Ogden, Utah and then back.
Got to see 4014 3 times since his restoration. The third time though had to have been my favorite, because when the Big Boy came to Denver Union Station in 2022, a late running California Zephyr arrived next to the big boy at Denver, giving me the opportunity to see a steam powered train, a diesel powered train, and electric powered train(s) all in one setting.
