    Engineer John, making memories to last a life time. I worked with John a few days ago. Indeed a great fellow, one of the many awesome folks who keep history alive. I work with the train crew as conductor and brakeman. Thank you for sharing this great video with us. Come back and visit us again soon!

    Nothing sounds better than a Crosby 3 chime train horn... Quilling is hard to do and doesn't sounds as nice with those diesel train horns

    I paid for a cab ride on the Royal Gorge Route RR circa 2005. I forget the exact model, but an F7 I believe. Exciting. I was saddened by the death of a conductor many years later.

    I need to renew my membership with NCTM. I sat in the cab of 6133 and 6910 back in 2014. The “Streamliners at Spencer” was spectacular that year.
    6133 and her sisters were lettered for my part of SOU: the CNO&TP Kentucky Division.

    If I can ask why did the enginemen leave his seat? If there was a safety control foot pedal the train would've stopped. 😕

    • @PiedmontCentralRailroad
      @PiedmontCentralRailroad  3 месяца назад +1

      Can you tell me what minute on the video that happened? I do not recall at any point when we were actually moving that he left his seat. There was a point where we switched back to forward from reverse...it may have been then, but we were at a full stop.

    • @RailroadEngineer123
      @RailroadEngineer123 3 месяца назад +2

      @@PiedmontCentralRailroad it's at 24:19. The locomotive was moving in reverse.

    • @PiedmontCentralRailroad
      @PiedmontCentralRailroad  3 месяца назад +2

      You are right! I wish I knew the specifics, but I think there is something back there he needs to do when changing direction. As you are a real engineer, I'm sure you know more than I do about these things. I do know there is a crew member in the caboose with a radio when moving backwards so not completely blind to pending issues on track. I do remember now wanting to ask what he did back there but needed to respect the instructions not to talk to him while operating

    • @PiedmontCentralRailroad
      @PiedmontCentralRailroad  3 месяца назад +2

      At minute 19 he didn't have to go to back when going from forward to backward so that throws off my whole theory.😄

    • @RailroadEngineer123
      @RailroadEngineer123 3 месяца назад +2

      @@PiedmontCentralRailroad I'm no certified enginenmen. But yeah, it's sort of a head scratcher on why he got up from his seat. If there was an emergency, a few seconds like that could be catastrophic. That's the first time I've ever seen an engineer get up from his seat to go back to the engine compartment while the locomotive was in motion. I was just very surprised to see that. 😮

    • @PiedmontCentralRailroad
      @PiedmontCentralRailroad  Месяц назад

      @PeytonC09 It is first come, first serve at NCTM for every train ride they do. I've been going there for years and had no idea! I think it was an additional $25-$50 or so for the cab ride (for the two of us). They usually have 2-3 rides per day, so if you miss out on one, you can reserve another. Reservations are only for that day, and you must be present to reserve it. I hope you get the chance! It really was a special day.
