    It's alive! My only regret is that I was not able to go to Roanoke and help resurrect this queen of steam.

      Nathan Deal If you provided any sort of financial backing, that helped the crew out as much as anything. Myself, I contributed to the fund before she was moved to NC. Wasn't much, but I can say that I had some hand in bringing her back, which is a neat feeling. You can be there for her return at least!

    I'm hoping that they'll do the 1218 next (I know it might more difficult then the 611 and I am grateful that the 611 is back I just think her sister deserves another shot) but it could be a few years for the 1218 to come back

    probably lower psi because they weren't planning on rolling yesterday but I'm guessing they decided to give it a go in the later hours.

      SCL3618 By the way, what's on the tender below the "N" in "NORFOLK"? Looks like a paint run maybe? I see some cosmetic details are missing from 611 still such as the firemans side journal box covers and the shrouding below the bullet nose, so I'm sure they still need to work on completing her.

    • @SCL3618
      @SCL3618 9 лет назад +1

      Yeah the tender had a few more patches to be worked over. Those will be addressed in the coming weeks, along with other locomotive maintenance. A water leak struck her later in the afternoon, so pressure wasn't the highest.

    She's alive!!! Now on to the 1218 if the 1218 can't be restored then maybe the Norfolk and Western engine that was at the St Louis transportation museum can be restored to operating condition

    • @SCL3618
      @SCL3618 9 лет назад

      Destinee Meyer 1218 would be the most plausible of the two... Class A's were built for dual service, Y class was heavy freight. First thing's first- money. No restoration can be done without funding, and mind you 611's shop at VMT has yet to be constructed. It will be a few years IF plans for 1218 are announced.

      SCL3618 I can see the 1218 getting restored after the facility is built. I'm curious where 611 will be stored until that facility is constructed. I could also see the VMT exchanging their FT B unit, Wabash E unit, and maybe some cash in exchange to keep 2156 in Roanoke. The VMT will not let the last Roanoke built Y in existence walk out their door. Not again.

    • @SCL3618
      @SCL3618 9 лет назад

      I believe 611 will be stored at Spencer in between excursions. I know that she will be coming back south after the inaugural run.
      2156 could become a long termer at VMT, such would only be appropriate.

    Is there any truth to the rumor that the coal we see on top of the tender is strictly cosmetic, as she has been converted to an oil burner? WOW! That is so cool to see old steam running again! Thanks for sharing this awesome video.

    Is that creaking sound the locomotive or the tracks? Yikes! It sounds like an old wooden boat about to give up to the water trying to get in.

    • @Rebel9668
      @Rebel9668 9 лет назад +1

      Brian O'Neill It's the old track in the yard making that noise. If you'll notice, when she's moving back onto the turntable the noise ceases. On well maintained track, all you'll hear from her is steam.

      Jack Carey A bit irrelevant to 611...
      More than likely not for the default engine, as it has not changed since early releases.

    That thing barely fits on that turntable.
