I also love this game, it needs a remake or at least re-release. I personally prefer it to XD because of Wes and because you get to catch the legendary throughout the game rather than them all being shoved into one fight at the end.

    @bert7651 Год назад +8

Dakim couldn't hurt Wes because Wes still had pokemon standing, ready to rip into anything that poses a threat. The area leader had all of his pokemon knocked out, his protectors were gone.

The funny thing about the limited roster is that while it is an objective downside for how bad it is, there is still enough good Pokemon in that list and combined with the all double battle setup, it makes me more closely analyze them. How good they are by themselves, what Pokemon do the synergize well with, whether or not I have the TMs to allow certain strategies. The game actually got better once I started thinking that way.
After 20 years of playing this game, I managed to settle on two teams I really like: a rain team with Feraligatr (STAB, rain, mystic water and torrent boosted hydro pumps are no joke despite the mediocre special attack) and Ampharos spamming thunder and supporting the team with light screen and thunder wave, with Heracross in the back to take advantage of it's team mates nerfing fire damage for it; the other is a sun team with Typhlosion, Jumpluff (supports by setting the sun, spamming sleep powder and only occasionally attacks with solar beam) with a Flygon in the back that can sub for Typhlosion (spamming earthquake and dealing solid single target damage with sun boosted fire blasts). There is even some wiggle room still, the rain team can run thick fat Hariyama for more bulk, and for the sun team you can go all in on Flygon's coverage and give it solar beam instead of Jumpluff (the latter's low special attack stat means they both deal about the same damage).
My point is that team building experience in this game was the best I had in any Pokemon game. There were times in the main line games where I had so many options that building a good team was just too easy. But this game, with it's limited roster, actually forced me to carefully consider my options and in the end I built teams that I could be proud of. And there are still some options I haven't explored yet. Like really experimenting with guts Heracross since double battles means that I can apply toxic myself. Or using Medicham for fighting type offense, because pure power boosted high jump kick is the strongest physical attack in the game.

That's really just personal based on your own lack of will to experiment. Just because you feel you have to be forced to use certain Pokemon, doesn't mean others won't want to explore less convenient options.

I love this game also for the challenge and for its limited team building. It almost feels like a fire emblem game where you have a smaller roster but most of them fit into a niche and can be great if put into the right position

There needs to be a third story set in Orre. With how XD’s story ends, there’s so much potential to make an interesting story that does Ardos and Eldes’ characters justice and maybe Greevil

I will always believe this and XD were peak of what pokemon could be. The animations, story, and unique progression was something no other pokemon game even came close to. Maybe one day we could get a game similar to it since they technically still have the models including gen 5-7 in the 3DS Pokedex.

@@Rosegirl398 I'd honestly be happy with remakes that feature modern mechanics like the physical/special split. They could even add new mechanics, like making it so every Shadow Pokémon gets it's line's Hidden Ability, or even a completely unique Ability, upon purification. That's probably even more to ask for than a third game, though...

I remember buying Colosseum back in 2011 or so at a Gamestop and i really loved the way this game tends to present and make itself feel different from the main games.
The fact that all of it's battles were 2v2 instead of the traditional 1v1 was a really cool concept and the story while dark, gave it a 360 degree spin to what we're usually acostumed to. Don't get me started about the enviroment in both here and XD it was a amazing concept, a desert-like region with unique places with tons of mystery and charm and my favorite out of all of em was The Under.
I fucking loved The Under in Colosseum, it had a very dark and sense of danger vibe to it for a underground city below the surface of Pyrite Town and the music is my favorite in the entire game. Shame they got rid of The Under in XD Gale of Darkness tho 😔

I don't think the Pokemon selection is much of an issue because the game is designed for the player to trade with Ruby and Sapphire. The prevalence of Gen 2 and Gen 3 Pokemon really made Colloseum fit with the "Generation Advanced" theme at the time given that we had already played 3 main series Gen 1 games before its release and Fire Red and Leaf Green were set to launch in the same year. Plus even the Gen 2 games heavily feature Kanto Pokemon so Colloseum really stood out as something new.

I did really like this one, too. If they had done what XD did and had multiple Shadow Pokémon per major encounter, maybe like this:
Mirror B, Round 1: Ludicolo, Ludicolo, Ludicolo, Ludicolo, Shadow Golduck, Shadow Sudowoodo
Dakim, Round 1: Golem, Claydol, Gyarados, Shadow Steelix, Shadow Arcanine, Shadow Gligar (or Gliscor)
Venus, Round 1: Delcatty, Banette, Vileplume, Shadow Milotic, Shadow Raichu, Shadow Clefable
Ein, Round 1: Pelipper, Rhydon, Crobat, Shadow Manectric, Shadow Lanturn, Shadow Altaria
Mirror B, Round 2: Ludicolo, Ludicolo, Shadow Zapdos, Shadow Lapras, Shadow Politoed, Shadow Armaldo
Dakim, Round 2: Flygon, Claydol, Shadow Houndoom, Shadow Entei, Shadow Moltres, Shadow Regirock
Venus, Round 2: Meganium, Misdreavus (or Mismagius), Shadow Suicune, Shadow Articuno, Shadow Regice, Shadow Dusclops
Ein, Round 2: Pelipper, Crobat, Shadow Raikou, Shadow Registeel, Shadow Gyarados, Shadow Cradilly
Give Nascour and Evice both six, and you have a massive, nasty fight on your hands:
Nascour: Shadow Alakazam, Shadow Gengar, Shadow Walrein, Shadow Blissey, Shadow Gallade, Shadow Metagross
Evice: Shadow Slaking, Shadow Scizor, Shadow Salamence, Shadow Machamp, Shadow Slowking, Shadow Tyranitar

I wouldn't wish a remake of Coli/XD for the world after seeing what GF does to the newer games. The battles were fun for the animation and replacing that with the much more static renders used in recent games. I guess they can "remake from scratch" the old models. I don't think it would be exactly what anyone who wants the game remade would want, so imo I prefer to just run Dolphin and enjoy it originally. A rerelease might be better.
Hilariously, yeah my final team included the dogs, but when I replayed when I wasn't... a very stupid preteen I actually enjoyed the difficulty. A lot of the higher end mons they leave for the end as well, which may have been to mimic how in games with freely obtained wild pokemon, you will see a similar curve. And catching them was stressful. I remember resetting 2 hours back because I ran into a fight where I failed to catch.
Mount Battle was my postgame love. I would import my Ruby and Firered teams to test and see how far they go (and pretty far considering I didn't know jack about EV/IVs... and move choice. I ran Ember Blaziken).
Thanks for the nice vid, you did real well.

There's so many things that could be said about this game that weren't in the video. Like why all the crazy level jumps in the colosseums? I think the level curve makes this game not fun to nuzlock compared to its sequal. (If you haven't done a nuzlock of that game go do it now. It's the most refreshing pokemon experience I've had in a long time)
Shiny pokemon in this game. Wow I want to get one so badly one of these days. They are so rare and such a pain to get but seeing them in 3d and being able to get a shiny ribbon master is so cool to me.
I think that in the shadow pokemon lab there's another redeeming quality as in the pokemon cages. Seeing them all empty made me think about what the shadow pokemon went through to become like that. Rest of the place is kinda boring though.
This game has ereader support and there's some shadow pokemon you can only get from doing this but scizor is the only unique evolution line you can get out of doing this so like why?
Finally I just love how weird your team ends up. Like you can't just have a super high level starter pokemon and whatever else is popular. At some point of the game you've got to dip your toes into some freak gen 2 pokemon that are hard to get in their own games and you've got to purify them if you want to experience everything that this game has to offer. I think that puts a lot more importance to colosseum pokemon than ones caught in the main line games but also I get overly attached to the pokemon in my games as is so that's probably just a me thing

Also then my parents donated my GameCube when I went to college so that was cool too I guess

While I know objectively XD is a better game because it fixes a lot of gameplay things and is just more polished overall - the BW2 to Colosseum's BW, you could say - I would still prefer Colosseum as a port/remaster to Switch, solely because the aesthetic and vibes are everything I loved as an "edgy" preteen.
I know it's unlikely to ever get brought to Switch due to the developer being nonexistent now (rip Genius Sonority), but I really hope there's some way that Orre can come back. Even if it's not with Wes and Rui or Michael, Orre deserves another shot - it's so unique being almost entirely desert and there's so much potential with it that's been untapped since it got two games only. I mean, they remade/rebooted Snap and ported Stadium, so it's not like it would be impossible to return, right? Right?
Hopefully this comment ages horribly and we're all enjoying a Colosseum/XD game on Switch right now! It's been almost 20 years (dear god) - let us go back to Orre, Nintendo!

Yeah the names are crazy in this game. Honestly I didn't like how every single battle was a double battle. I get it was because that was the new thing introduced in Gen 3 but it was too monotonous. Also, the Pokemon selection was really bad. It was mainly there to give you mons to trade over to R/S so you could fill out the dex, since those games didn't have many gen 2 mons.
