    Hi Euge, this episode was the most difficult to choose between the two amps. You know the 800 is my favourite and "wins" all the time. But this time I'll take both if you don' t mind. That plexi is such an iconic amp: from classic rock to metal it has it all. And where the plexi stops the 800 takes over into the realms of thunder and beyond. They compliment eachother wonderfully.
    Thanks for the great epsiode and playing, I really enjoyed it!

    Yet another great review! Your playing and comments would draw you in even if you have little interest in the equipment. I loved your R&R song. It reminds me of sped-up AC/DC or 1980"s Sammy Hagar. "If it's good...it's good"! :)
    Of the 3 Marshall Studio heads, I like the Jubilee the least because of the tendency for it to get fizzy. It's still good though. There is something so magical about a Plexi. Between the Plexi and the 800, the Plexi sounds more harmonically rich with more chime. Except when you played the pinch harmonics on the 800...they really stood out. The 800 has more gain on tap than the Plexi and is a bit more aggressive. The only drawback to the Plexi is that you have really turn it up for it to become magical. The 800 would be more controllable and versatile. I suppose you could always have a post-phase inverter master volume installed in the Plexi. As I've said before, I think Marshall made a great decision to use EL34's in their Studio Series amps. I'm sure it makes a huge difference compared to EL84's.

    Hey Euge, I was going through your three video's on the mini studio amps, and I was wondering if you added any additional EQ'ing of the first songs of each video and if you did was it the same? To me the mini-plexi sounds much darker, fatter and, can I say maybe more saturated? than the Jubilee and the 800. Since you are using the same setup and same Bogren IR on all three. I love all your tones on these, but this one a tad more evil... was the ESP tuned lower maybe? Thanks for taking the time to answer!

      @EugeValovirta230V  Год назад +1

      Can’t remember but it wouldn’t make much sense to me to do that on these amp videos ’cos you can change the sound a lot by eq’ing it afterwards. But if I do some little tweaks I mention that in the video. At least I try to remember to do that 😎.

    Great stuff Euge!!! I am torn between those two. I just love the first VH albums, AC/DC and Zepplin. But also all of those 80 hard rock / hair stuff. What do you think would be better? Plexi with boost sometimes or just the JCM with a boost and preamp gain low for 70s stuff (If that even could get into plexi vein)..

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  3 года назад +4

      Thanks!
      There’s a reason why I have three 800 2203s and not Plexi (but I will someday😎) ’cos I can get pretty close to Plexi tones with them by just backing the preamp gain a bit and cranking the master even more. But that’s just my opinion 😎.

    Why does it sound like limited or overcompressed? Is it a recording technique?
    A plexi sounds like a punch on your chest, not like playing thru a limiter...

    • @EugeValovirta230V

    I like both amps. in this clip but a little more the Plexi . Even if the JCM800 has a little more gain , i think the Plexi has some more clarity in tone . Also i think the SD1 is a very good od pedal to boost the JCM800 but for the Plexi i think a Dod 250 (the old vintage one) or a TS9 tube screamer , are the best od pedals to boost , beacause those pedals have more output than SD1 and in a Plexi style circuit that generates more low end punch .
    The SD1 has more distorted sound but less output than Dod 250 (vintage) or TS9 and that's a good thing for the JCM800 but not so good for the Plexi .
    But both amps. are great .

      @@EugeValovirta230V Some people say that with the Plexi can be used a JHS volume pot (made in USA) in the fx loop of the amp. something like the one from the link
      m.thomann.de/ro/jhs_pedals_little_black_amp.htm?o=4&search=1614836532
      It is not expensive and they say that this thing acts like a master volume on the Plexi and allows you to dial the max preamp gain from the front controls , then with fx loop volume pot to dial the overall volume without loosing too much tone .
      Some people say you loose and change too much the tone of the amp. that way but others say you don't loose too much and you are able in that way to play the Plexi with the cab at more manageable volumes .
      I don't know wich part is true but i would be curious to find out .

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  3 года назад +1

      JHS pedals are really great in general so I’m pretty sure this one isn’t an exception 👌.
      I use the Bugera Power Soak for the same purpose when jamming with my 4x12 cab: ruclips.net/video/ndENZ8Zw8N8/видео.html
      It’s cheap but does the job just fine 😎👌.

    • @CalinRo1981
      @CalinRo1981 3 года назад

      @@EugeValovirta230V Yes I know , but is not the same thing . The power soak attenuates the power of the amp and goes between speaker output and speaker (after power amp section) . It also affects the tone .
      But i wonder how it sounds with a volume pot in the loop wich is actually a master volume and it acts like a master volume (it goes after preamp section but before power amp section) .
      The reason i want to know how it sounds that way (with master volume instead of a power attenuator) is because i like to use some delay in the loop , and if i use the attenuator (wich goes after the power amp) then when you will set the level on the Plexi amp to the max. the power amp will also distort , so any time based effects you put in loop (delay , reverb) became useless that way , because is like you put them before the distortion instead after distortion .
      So that's the reason i want to know how the Plexi sounds with a master volume in the loop instead a power soak attenuator .

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  3 года назад +2

      Active pickups were invented in the 80s I believe so there wasn’t much other options back in the day than passives 😉.
      Fuzz, flanger & wah are effect pedals and have nothing to do with pickups except that they’re guitar related.
      I believe you’re not a guitar player and it’s ok 👍😉.
