KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park... lol what a movie lol. Love this song.
When KISS released the single of DETROIT ROCK CITY, the "B" side was BETH. The band thought it was just a throw away song. Radio DJ's flipped the record over and played BETH instead. The song exploded and became a huge hit. The unplugged version with acoustic guitars is awesome as well.
Soft 70s rock
That's the video from phantom of the park poolside that is shown here.....the acoustic version is really the best part of the film imho.
This song brings back memories.Kiss was my first band I saw in concert
The Video part of this was from the 1978 Movie "KISS meets the Phantom of the Park". The Movie used an acoustic version, but this Video used the Soundtrack from the Album "Love Gun".
It's Rumored that Peter Criss wrote this about the guilt he felt when he had to leave his Dog at home when he had to Work.
Although Peter was kicked out of KISS, The Band Continues to play this at Concerts, with the Drummer always doing the Vocals.
Peter Criss may have rewrote this for KISS feeling guilt about his Dog, But this song was 1st recorded by Peter Criss old band before Kiss named Chelsea and was titled Beck it was wrote because one of the band members Wife Becky kept calling him to see when he was coming home!
Beth was on Detroit Rock City, not Love Gun.
@@brad6576 Destroyer
@@beaubradley2171 Yeah, why did I say Detroit Rock City? First album I ever bought with my own money.
@@brad6576 Maybe because if not mistaken Detroit Rock City is 1st song on Aside!
Beth And I Was Made For Loving You.The most Diverse Kiss Song's EVER Yet 2 Of Their Best !! Period !!!
Video is from the movie Kiss vs the Phantom of the park
You need to listen to "Hard Luck Woman", also sung by Peter Criss. Garth Brooks does a killer cover of it.
The footage was from KISS’ 1978 movie KISS Meets The Phantom of the Park. It’s a pretty cheesy movie, but my favorite part is the end.. It involves robots and the band on stage. That’s all I’ll say in case you want to watch the movie sometime. lol
Best Kiss song ever. True story. 😆
The video is taken from the film "Kiss Meets The Phantom Of The Park". When released as a 7", this was MEANT to be the B-side of Detroit Rock City - until a radio DJ flipped the sides because of the subject of the A-side being about the death of a fan on their way to a gig.
Forever was possibly the most romantic song they ever did, I remember an accapello version of this song as they sang to Beth, I haven't seen that in years though
Romantic? It’s a guy telling his girl he can’t see her because he has to practice with his band.
@@GeekGinger Wrong song, was talking about forever
Brad for the win!!
The song seems to be about several aspects of being a superstar band. This is how they make their money, and provide for their loved ones. They need to write songs; put together the music; practice; record the song; put out an album; take it on the road and tour and sing. All that time their wives or girlfriends are left at home wondering what's going on.
And the band has to keep doing what their doing. Beth, what else can they do..?
From the destroyer album
WRONG , once again, Bradley. This one is just a smooth, easy on the soul, song. T Y, guys for another wicked, cool song. Such a joy to watch as you continue on this journey of discovery of our generations music. Thanks for the ride. Still watchin and diggin it from an old rock and roller outta Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Go with God. Peace.
They have several mellow songs that are good... Hard luck woman, i still love you (live unplugged)... There are a few... Great reaction.
70s COUNTRY KISS
Kiss was such a kick ass band in the 70’s.
NOT SO MUCH AFTER
@@theodoreritola7641 ALWAYS HAS BEEN A KICK ASS BAND
They all put out a solo album and this was the biggest hit of all 4
This really is a great song. Crazy that this is their biggest hit. Watch the MTV unplugged version
Watching the video is like a bad Halloween gag. But other than that it’s pretty good
This is my favorite Kiss song. I liked the way you guys reacted to this.
If youre even a mild Kiss fan, i recommend reading Paul Stanley's autobiography..very good reading.
I don’t get what the confusion is about the “makeup” …it’s KISS
This was Kiss basically giving the "Critics" the FU by showing that they were legitimate musicians and could write great music and it is part of their mystique to look so scary and theatrical but to show that they have something to offer everyone. One of my favorites!
Ok, video is cheesy as hell but looking at it now is different. At the time it was much weirder to see them without the makeup. 🤣 Beth is a much loved song for Kiss fans. Glad y’all reacted to it almost nobody does.
Brad and Lex you guys need to do a Food cooking Video :P
Hilarious yes girth what can I do
KISS War machine try that one
KISS "Calling Dr. Love"...Nuff Said.
Agree!
@@christikirk7265 Sweet..Please Give It A Like.
You guys should listen to Hard Luck Woman if you haven’t already
One benefit of the make-up is that no matter how old they got, they looked the same.
To me it feels like the band had a "Breakfast Club" moment lol
I always thought they looked like Demons.
This song brings back memories of my high school gf. Her name is Beth.
Check out Hard Luck Woman.
Saw them at the San Diego Sport Arena, in late 1977. Just a great Concert, but unfortunately this song had not been released yet. Love Gun was the hit at the time! Also, at this time the Kiss comic book was released and all the members gave blood for the red ink used in the first printings! Long before the days of AIDS, covy and monk-EE pox. I believe all the members took turns singing on different songs.
The Singer wrote the song for his wife Beth and after 6 months the song came out they both got divorced.
Even though Peter Criss isn't the best vocalist it's still a really good song.
It is funny- the juxtaposition of the lyrics paired with their face paint is different for sure! A love song is unexpected.
if you are going to get into their solo stuff .. the 4 solo albums.. the ONLY tune to listen to is Ace Frehley's cover of New York Groove. Its a kick ass classic song.
Ya think that's special, check out Gene Simmons singing twinkle twinkle little star on his album lol
Gotta react to Sure Know Something and Hard Luck Woman
Brad & Lex, Like I said previously, “Beth” is just Kiss member Peter Criss on vocals, a pianist, an acoustic guitarist and the NY Philharmonic Orchestra. Their highest charting song at #7.
Beautiful with Orchestra and acoustic. Makes me cry!
And Peter's ego skyrocketed cause "he wrote it". But he didn't, his demo "Beck" has none of the qualities of the end result. Bob Ezrin is the real star. Always loved Peter's voice though (and his jazzy, grooving drum style)
@@DaP84 correct. He couldn’t write period. That song also dated back to his old band and another musician named Stan Penridge. He was an average drummer on his best days and a terrible one on his worst. Both drummers that followed him in the band were much more talented. Eric Carr and Eric Singer
How appropriate that this is their highest charting song because it is the ONLY good song they ever did
@@reallymysterious4520 you are entitled to your opinion.
But it makes me wonder just EXACTLY how many songs from KISS you have actually listened to.
I snuck out of my house when I was 16 to go to a Kiss concert with my boyfriend. I didn’t tell my mom until I was in my 30’s! She laughed and told me she knew all about it!
They always know
You believed nobody checked on you for that many hours?
Did you graduate? 🤔
@@outdoorsman7324 I’m sure my brother ratted me out. Class of 82!
@@jennyjenny4501 , Your parents likely knew you were gone before you even got to any concert. 🙄
Rock on, mom!!!🤘🏼
Peter Criss also sings their over hit: Hard Luck Woman. Not a KISS fan but it’s one of my all time favorite songs
Same
Mine too Rob! Keep requesting reaction for that too.
A Paul Stanley song he wrote and was going to see if Rod Stewart wanted to record it but ended up having Criss sing it
Rob....u dont like any of their songs?? Well guarantee u would love going to one of their concerts!
Didn't know he sang that
wow. great video. thx. I was the worlds biggest kiss fan in 1976. (I was 9 yrs. old) its hard to believe I haven't heard this in 45 years.
This video is from the movie "KISS Meets The Phantom"
Such a bad, cheesy movie, I love it so much!
This was KISS's attempt to show the world they are more than just a rock band. This song is good, but their best lighthearted, soft rock song by far is "Hard Luck Woman".
Great song and Forever was a big hit too..
Also by Peter Criss, if I’m not mistaken.
110% agree….
A song originally written for Rod Stewart, if I remember correctly. Hard Luck Woman that is....
And both songs were with Peter singing 👍🏻👍🏻
I think this was actually KISS's worst song behind I Was Made For Lovin You.
"They have a soft side" - This song was originally written to make fun of another band member (Peter Criss's previous band 'Chelsea') because his wife 'Becky' was always calling and interrupting band sessions asking when her husband would be home.
Peter Criss originally pitched it to the band as a faster paced song but this is what it turned out to as. It's also disputed that Peter Criss actually wrote the lyrics. His friend Stan Penridge who was also in Chelsea most likely wrote almost all of it and Peter Chris had a very minor role in the writing. KISS producer Bob Ezrin composed it and polished up of the lyrics.
From Wikipedia - In his autobiography, Simmons recounted that "I have never seen [Criss] compose a single song. Peter might have contributed a line or two of the lyrics, but after listening to Penridge's original demo, it's clear who made the original song". Paul Stanley agreed with Simmons but Criss says they are just jealous that it's his song and not one of theirs.
Stan Penridge wrote this song. Penridge used to be my neighbor so I have lots of inside info on all things Kiss. Peter also lived 15 miles away from me for a time. Him and Ace would hang out at open mic nights at this small backwoods bar on weekends.
@@magna116 I agree. One of the main defenders of Criss is his wife so that's where I have great skepticism. I have no problem with wifes, girlfriends or whoever telling their story but they almost always tell a very favorable story of their man and give backhanded replies to the rest of the band. First hand information can be sketchy enough. Second hand information shouldn't be trusted at all.
Gene Simmons always has his mouth moving so much about Gene Simmons that I doubt Gene Simmons does a lot of writing himself either
My wife named our daughter after this song she liked it that much
Beth is the drummer (Peter Cris) wife!! I love this song!!!
The footage is from the movie, "KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park." If you want to see some great concert footage with the original lineup it is worth watching. If you want to see a decent movie... it's not.
Peter Ciss's voice was PERFECT for this song. Just perfect. I'm pretty sure he played piano; no drums, either.
KISS were never a rock band. KISS were a gimmick band.
You guys gotta watch that movie "Kiss Meets The Phantom Of The Park" It's the funniest piece of crap ever made...
I always loved this song, it was one of the first songs i heard from Kiss when it came out.
This MV is primarily from the Movie Kiss Meets The Phantom of the Park 1978. I was a cult classic, and never taken seriously except for true Kiss fans.
I own a copy of it on VHS lol haven't pulled the VHS player out to watch it in a minute. but I can at least say, I own it. lol
Every rock band had their ballad.
Lol! Basically he's telling Beth too bad, so sad!
It is perfectly okay to be wrong about a guess, you honestly didn't know. It's fine. This was fun. :)
The song makes me sad. I used to date a musician and this was our song. It's a beautiful tune.
Ignore the video.......it was added many years later.
A highlight of every show was when drummer, Peter Criss, would step up to the front of the stage, sit down on a stool and sing this.......the girls loved it!
Greatest KISS song ever!!!
This song is essentially a Peter Criss solo song. None of the other band members played on it. He’s backed by an orchestra and piano.
The song that really got KISS started. Beth!
Finally...somebody does this
I always HATED this song....STILL do.
Loving Brad's take on this.
Pretty much how I felt.
Still beautiful. ❤👍🏽
Good ballad from Kiss
That’s the only song I like that Kiss has have ever made. No disrespect intended I’m just not a heavy metal fan. I actually love this song.
KISS is glam rock, but still.
In 1977 I attended, with my mom and sister, my very first concert. It was Kiss and Alice Cooper.Kiss had all four original members in '77 and they were hugely popular all over the world. My sister used to always listen to this song and also Hard Luck Woman.
This was off of their “destroyer” album and was a “B” side track to the single “Detroit rock city”. I used to sing this to my wife when i called her while I worked on the road. (Her name is Elizabeth)
Do HARD LUCK WOMAN next; it’s another soft KISS song
Sung by Peter Chriss the drummer, good memories.😊
The footage from Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park cracks me up. 🤣😂 what an awful piece of crap movie. And I love Kiss!
Got ya Kids!!! I was born in 59 so I've heard alot
This is the best song by Kiss.
I fucking lost it when I realized you two were watching KISS Meets Phantom of the Park.
Great classic song by KISS.
About being away from his wife while doing his job.
Reminds me of the song by Journey, "Faithfully" about being away from loved ones while on the road making music.
Howard Jones, things can only get better
My song from kiss! Matter of fact, never ever liked any of their other music! Just this one and it has a real wonderful memory from when I first heard it. Working nite crew, it was lunchtime & what's open all nite...here in San Diego, back in mid-70's, JacK-In-The-Box down the street! Co-worker drove &she turned on the radio...BETH started playing. It was raining, the little wipers on her VW were barely working, but, drove, bought our tacos...and went back to work...2am! Always think of that when the is played...still remember her&the rain &the lunch 47 years later. Rock on!
The video is from their 1978 movie "KISS meets the Phantom of the park" ✌💖☮
Kiss had a few more ballads up their sleeves in the later years. One being "Forever", which I think is their second highest charting single and only other top ten hit. If I'm correct, that one was co-written with Michael Bolton. They have another one I'm keen on called "Every Time I Look At You".
Correct
Kiss are full of surprises
My fav song by them, I think its their biggest hit. Peter Criss has a great, gravely voice.
Peter Criss is the reason that I started playing drums when I was 12 years old. Thank you for sharing this song!!!
They have several great power ballads. Check out Forever and Reason To Live.
How about reacting to the song Ben by Michael Jackson? A number one hit!!
Aloha guys, good morning indeed...a hui hou
I remember calling the radio station back in 1976 to request this song. 45 years later I finally got to see them for the first time. Bucket list... check!
Woooow
If you get a chance, listen/watch the live version of Kiss's "I Still Love You". Another ballad-type song. ☺💜
The music is by Beethoven.
KISS has an AMAZINGLY long list of great songs...but "Beth" will always be my favorite, ever since I first heard it in the 70's!
It was thought to be a throw away song and turned out to be one of their biggest hits. KISS fans love it.
Worst song from them. So lame
"God of Thunder" next.
Peter wrote this for his wife who was not named Beth.👍👍👍👍🤟
This song was called girth Peter lovers he’s girth
Role Models. One of my favorite comedies.
The video is from their TV movie...."KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park"....possibly the worst movie ever made....its so bad its great to watch now.......you'll laugh all the way through it.
Beth was their highest charting song....but not their best.
Brad and Lex- y’all gotta hear Paul
Stanley singing “I still love you.” Talk about vocals! Then there Ace Frehly (sp)(another band member) an his funky groove song “New York Groove.”
