  • Hi guys! In this episode you will watch me whipping up some Ekwang. Ekwang is a Cameroonian delicacy mostly eaten by those in the South West region of the country but enjoyed throughout the country. It is very similar to the Nigerian Ekpang Nkukwo.
    It is made up of grated cocoyams wrapped in cocoyam leaves then simmered with seasonings. Finger-licking good!
    Check out the full written recipe here: www.preciouscore.com/how-to-ma...

    Hi Precious, thank you so much. I am Nigerian and my maternal grandmother is Calabar so I had a Hodge podge of meals growing up. This dish is also done by the Calabar people and they call it Epkang. Same with your Eru dish that they call Afang soup. This particular dish holds a special place in my heart, cos my Mum weaned me on this. She said I would not eat baby food like a normal kid😂. Every year before I moved to the UK on my birthday she would make this dish just for me. Thank you so much, I really will try this it brings back such good memories. I really love your videos please keep it coming.

      Erefuro Stella Amaso-Nedderman aww your comment warms my heart! The people of Calabar are basically the same people as the Manyu people of Cameroon. Reason why some of our meals are so similar. Even our culture. Glad to know that you were weaned on Ekpang! Hahaha glad to bring back memories for you, dear. Enjoy!

    This looks really amazing, was salivating the whole time. Just to add, i find that adding your spices later on gives the food a better taste and flavour. Especially the crayfish cuz putting it so early kills the flavour. So next time if u wish, u could try putting in the ginger and garlic about 15 mins b4 the food gets done and crayfish about 5 mins b4 the food gets done. I think ull love it❤️

    Precious, I made this dish......Lordy! Lordy! Lordy!!! It was gooooood. I did it with greens which is what we call Collard greens here in the UK. Made a right pigs ear of the wrapping but I didn't care.....errr!! I was also a little heavy handed with the water. BUT it all tasted AMAZING!!! I made a big pot ate some and froze the rest for cold days when summer seems like a pleasant dream you once had 😂😂😂. My Mum has passed on many years now, but this brought her and home so much closer. Thank you. Stella

    I cooked mine and since I could not afford the cocoyam leaves for wrapping, I used a variety of fresh vegetables like spinach, greens, lettuce and some vegetables like imported from India to the UAE. It came out so well and delicious and with the rondelles aroma coming out powerfully it blew off the noses of my neighbours 😂😂. Thanks, Madam Precious.

    It is sooooo amazing how similar ALL our foods are. The ibibio’s and efik’s in Nigeria call it EKPANG NKWUKWO, ( food of the gods) the ijebu’s also in Nigeria, call it ikokore but it’s without the greens. This is so interesting. Great job!

    • @PreciousKitchen
      @PreciousKitchen  6 лет назад

      Tolzie O thank you! Yes we are soooo similar. Some tribes in Cross River are actually the same as some tribes in Cameroon. Glad to know the meaning of Ekpang Nkukwo. In Cameroon some people call it Ekpang of Ekpang Coco. Lol. We are one, dear.
