Also, I'm so grateful to everyone who watched my videos, I wouldn't have these without you.
Well, this dagger took me too long to make, it was not easy to make it so perfect.
Why not use a belt grinder?
The reason is to keep the dagger consistent on all sides, which I couldn't do with a belt grinder.
To be safe, I used simple hand tools to make the geometry. I often use manual tools to work on some details, although it takes a lot of time, the results are satisfactory.
The second turning of the handle, because the proportions were a little off and it was uncomfortable to hold, I changed the shape to get a better fit in the palm.
This time, I added a lot of details to the lathe machining footage. And slowed down the speed of editing. This also leads to an increase in the length of the movie. But the movie is more detailed, and I want your feedback on this way of editing.
Thanks for watching!

Please don't take me wrong. I totally appreciate the skills displayed here, however it's not at all what I expected. The file knife is what the common man with a grinder, a bucket of water, and an oven can do. I've knocked out a few nice ones back in the day. But this man showed that he can do it with every tool you could ask for. When I was a kid I stole my mom's curtain rods and beat them into ninja swords with a claw hammer. But I wouldn't expect to see that on Forged in Fire.
I can appreciate what you’re saying but the simple take away here is that he turned something old and rusty, ugly, etc into a work of art.

I made a small dagger from a small file many years ago, and have been considering doing so again. This video has given me some motivation to get to work on that! Beautifully wrought dagger!
I can not even BEGIN to figure how many hours this took! What a GRAND Work of ART this one is! NICE JOB!!!
Wow - that was a nice dagger hiding in that file. As a Marine Engineer I really loved to see someone knowing how to work the steel, especially how to understand the use files for the delicate work, rather than seeing someone going crazy with an electrical grinder/cutting wheel, as is the case in 90% of steelwork videos on RUclips 🤨
I agree with your point of view. This is why I rarely see belt sanders in my videos. Thanks for watching
That’s not true I see a lot of people on RUclips who know how to do stuff properly of course some people just skimp out with stupid shortcuts to release the video quicker but still. Like for example I’ve seen people start sanding stuff like crazy at the beginning like they’re going to mirror shine metal to then stop sanding and put filler or bluing liquid and paint it or something instead of taking the time to restore the object properly and make it look beautiful
@@pavloszimbrakos4410 I’m not really looking at all the “restoring” videos, because I think there’s too much crap, where you can clearly see that the object was made look old and worn in 3 weeks time.
What I look for is peoples skills with tools, and the results that’s presented at the end, and I think there’s a lot who doesn’t have the eye to see what they are missing, but rather only see that they managed to made some stuff in a video 😀
@@jesperth.petersen8386 not true man 99 percent of those videos are actual legit restorations
@@pavloszimbrakos4410 - well, as an engineer I beg to differ, so let’s just agree to disagree on that subject.
I was mesmerised by this production, thanks for displaying so methodically the stages of the process. Such a simple and elegant piece.
Very methodical. Very skilled. Very creative. Incredible craftsmanship. Very beautiful. -- Thank you.
I think Mr Fairbairn and Mr Sykes would approve, nice
It is a pleasure to watch a man work that has your skills and abilities.
This could be a tutorial on how to make a knife from a file. The guide and etch lines make this a precision weapon. No eye balling here. Measure twice cut once is the theme. Well planned, love the design. Excellent outcome. Well done, Sir.

I started this using a piece of a strut spring i found in a parking lot, 2 propane burners, and a RR track anvil. I got stopped at shaping the blade but your sharpening device solves my problem. Easy to make and will insure the uniform edge i need. My blade's the same but a bit longer and much thinner like a pike so it has to be precise.
Thanks for the upload, very helpful.
Absolutely amazing. Perfect tunning with the perfection
This is so beautiful. I love it! Incredible work! 🤍👏
Beautiful work!
Congratulations on another wonderful piece of art this Dagger is. I’m in awe of how creative and masterful you are at knife making. If only I had the type of workshop you have I’d give it a go at it. Thanks again for your video.
You should be proud of your work. Absolutely beautiful.
Beautifully crafted Hans and great editing!!!
cheers!
Nice. Enjoy thaat there's actual hand shaping shown. Would like to see more such projects.
An incredible, beautiful and perfect work !!!
Wow wow wow .. absolutely STUNNING , FANTASTIC work ..

Beautiful work.
Hello, that,s a job well done. Thanks for taking the time to film and show.
Nice plug handle bayonet, I don't see many recreations of this type of knife. Great workmanship.
Absolute work of pure art !!!
Awesome work man!
Beautiful and amazing, great work
Really good fit and finish!
Hans, it looks like this video gets into the recommendations. This is very good!I'm happy for you!
Thank you very much for your continuous encouragement.
A beautyful piece of art!
Very nice end result. If i had something that shiny u would see me waving back. Thanks 4 sharing ur work
Looks great, that's a lot of work that goes into a work of art like that.
Congratulation, beautiful Dagger.
It came out great! We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎
Cheers 🍻
Great looking dagger mate!
Simplicity beauty and precise workmanship nice
Respekt,daß du dir die ganze Arbeit machst.
Very beautiful, I sure wish I could make something like that but I'd probably put my eye out.
Excellent work Sir👍
Great work as usual 👏
Great work and nice knife!😁👍🛠️
Great work, and beautiful knife, man. I was yelling at the television, "Flutes on the handle! Flutes on the handle! Flutes on handle!", but it did not work because you re-profiled the handle instead. :P I love these stiletto daggers because they are really dramatic. You can make one in a day that looks good, or you can spend a month on it, making it stunning. Everything in between is great.
Very nice works.
Great job! I wouldn’t have chosen that first handle shape either. Good save!
Beautiful shape and proportions! Congratulations! 👍🏻
poetry in motion! a work of art.
Very beautiful knife!
I love that filing jig. The profile came out perfect for something that is hand filed
Thanks for watching, this is an awesome hand tool that does a lot of work. For example 150CM hacksaw. 🤣
Nicely done
Amazing job
Just marvellous.
Thank you for filing correctly in a single dirrection!!! Also, very nice fabrication.

The shape of the blade is competent in terms of load distribution and strength and is good aesthetically.
I looked with pleasure.
Uma verdadeira obra de arte!
Very good making
awesome dagger
Cool dagger. Good video.
Very nice work! I bet it's very light.
Beautiful work i personally prefer longer videos because you can learn a lot. Or come up with your own ideas from the little details and inspiration of another. So thank you for your time and hard work.
Very happy to wait for your feedback, you read the video description. Exactly as you said.
@HANS here is a idea but it is a bit more work you could make two versions of a video. One being a long video for those who want to learn and get inspiration or ideas from your work. And a short version for those who just want watch you work. Of course i cannot take credit for the idea for it is dave friesen of crossed heart forge who does this with his videos. He has helped me on my road to traditional japanese smithing.Watch "Crossed Heart Forge - デイブ・フリーゼン - 鍛冶屋 - by Stria" on RUclips

Excellent travail, merci.
Nice piece
I swear files are one of the most satisfying things to turn into knives wrenches too horse shoes rusty farm tools etc but still I love seeing files become knives as long as they’re done right and don’t still have a file edge leftover
Wow!Que trabajo tan bello...
Brings back good memories of my 70’s high school shop class! Mr Logan wouldn’t let us use machines if we could do it by hand! He was a gruff Scotsman who apprenticed at Rolls Royce in the fifties and was just as tough on us. He would love your work, as do I
Great looking dagger!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up as a support

A very beautiful Dagger ,
it was a lot of work ! But the result is excellent ! 👍
Very good.beautiful!
Man, that is a beautiful knife! I have always loved this style of dagger, almost exactly what I consider the ideal style. I've been using files for knife blades for a few years now, I have been considering a larger project like this, but a bowie with stag handle is next up. I may be looking into making a dagger like this as well, would be a great addition to my collection but no way to do the fluting. Your craftsmanship is top notch and the end result is great!
Unless you want to fuller it with hot work and in that case may as well learn how to do the initial beveling hot with hammer work too.
Absolutely amazing! Wish I had a way to make these beautiful blades! 😮💨
Excellent! Excellent!
What a great piece. You won forged in fire with that one. The video was great and really showed the time and care you put into your work. GREAT JOB!!!

wow, so cool!
grand job 👏 thankyou.
reminded me of being an apprentice, making this type of dagger 🗡
My tutor was not too happy about this. So I called it, a letter opening knife instead.
very nice, well done. sir
Beautiful dagger, great job!
The editing is perfect and the length is good IMO.

Perfection! 11 out of 10
very beautiful
Nice work.
It looks great , I made a small sword from an Oberg Swedish file by welding a handle extension to the tang . I don’t know what steel it is only that it was heated to a bright orange before it hardened. Probably you may know the steel type older files are made from.btw you have some very good machinery.
That's ART.
Wonderful creation my friend remarkable craftsmanship definitely forgedinfire Worthy I would love to see a beautiful leather sheath with that
Genial, mis respetos es una obra de arte!
