    We have always had tile and a clear glass shower door. Both my husband and I use a squeegee after every shower. Never have a problem with soap scum. My shower looks just like new because we both take good care to squeegee after every shower. I have not had any problems for 12 years. Shower still looks like new.

    This is just fantastic... WhiteVinegar&DishSoap = completely soap-scum-free glass doors AT LAST : I've tolerated the last four years with so-so clear glass door and screen.
    I sprayed, left it for 15 minutes, spread the mixture around lightly with a household sponge and rinsed the lot off.
    What surprised me was that the process didn't generate a never-ending load of soap suds to wash away from so much dish soap [washing-up liquid, as we say in the UK!]. It was so easy!
    Now, the glasswork is just like the day the new shower area was installed.
    Brilliant - very many thanks.

    For some time, due to mental health and physical constraints, my shower wasn't cleaned as regularly as it should have been. I then began using a squeegy but could not bend or squat properly to doe the floor so I switched to using a towel which seemed to work but I still have an issue with bending etc. I then found a small head mop with extending handle and microfibre removable pad and that has been a game changer. I don't have to bend and just squeeze out the pad, using a second one if necessary and reuse them a few times before machine washing. The glass and tiles are cleaned without effort. I do have some permanent hard water stains on the glass but it is clean which is the main thing.

    The glass manufacturer added a coating and I can’t use a squeegee or it could scratch it and void the warranty. So we use a squeegee on the tile and microfiber cloth on the glass. I also thoroughly dry the faucet and all metal. It’s been 9 months and it looks like new. I never imagined I would stick with this routine, but it takes about two minutes and saves me so much more in depth cleaning time-it’s been worth it!!

    We renovated our bathroom 5 months ago (took out the tub and in a shower!), and I am bent on keeping it looking beautiful. Thank you for this video.
    I have a squeegee in our shower too! It has a hook on the end, so I hang it on the bar soap holder attached to the shower system. My mom kept telling me I had to dry the shower every time with a towel, so instead I got the squeegee. Less work with a squeegee, don't have to rub another load of laundry! Takes 30-45 seconds with the squeegee, and I get some squat exercises in!!
    I'll try your vinegar and dish soap recipe to clean any soap scum that sneaks in. Iike the idea of baking soda and dishsoap for my tile floor because it's glazed. What say you?

    Soap dissolves grease and oil. Soap scum is none of those. The only thing that dishsoap does is create a thicker viscosity for the vinegar to adhere longer. Why people use soap to dissolve soap boggles my mind. If you have faucets that are encrusted with soap scum, saturate strips of paper towels and let sit on the bad areas for half an hour to an hour. The soap scum will come right off. I spray my shower walls with vinegar and then mix salt, baking soda, and a small amount of water to form a paste. Then I scrub it off in a circular motion and rinse. We squeegee our glass shower doors every day, which helps them stay clean and clear. But to deep clean the rest, I use the method above - no dish soap! Also, using shower gel is better than a soap bar for preventing soap scum.

    How often do I clean my shower? Well we bought the place in '89, so I guess I'd say once every 34 years.

    Can you please specify while you don't recommend using an eraser sponge on shower glass?

    • @blaireshoe8738
      @blaireshoe8738 Год назад

      In general, abrasive things are not good for glass, as they can scratch. Eraser sponges are all at least somewhat abrasive iirc, and some of them even have extra-abrasive sides.
      That's not to say you can't use ANYTHING abrasive on glass, just that you should test in a hidden area first to make absolutely certain it is not damaging it.

    I keep reading that acidic products shouldn’t be used on ceramic tile because it’s bad for the grout, so vinegar in my shower is a no for me. My DIY daily shower spray is 2/3c rubbing alcohol, 1C filtered water, 1T Dr Bronners Sal Suds and 20 drops of tea tree oil and 10 drops of lemon EO. It’s doing the trick. Helps that I squeegee every time!

      and the rubbing alcohol doesn't affect the tiles like vinegar ? thank you for the idea, I'm afraid to use vinegar too

    • @tracyvision
      @tracyvision Год назад +3

      @@creuvette29 no, it can’t because the ph is so different. White vinegar has a ph of 2.4 (very acidic) and rubbing alcohol is neutral, somewhere between 6 and 8 (water is neutral at 7). Then consider that more than half the solution is water (neutral) and the Sal Suds is quite alkaline which will bring the final product into the alkaline territory, which is what (unsealed) grout likes. Btw I can’t take credit for the recipe of my shower cleaner, it’s based on the one by My Messy German Life.

    What is the best way to clean a jetted Jacuzzi tub? We are in our late 60's and early 70's and don't use the jetted Jacuzzi tub, but we do take showers in the same area. Problem is, the jets collect soap scum and have that orange and sometimes black mold growing in the jet alcoves. Our housekeeper doesn't do a very good job of cleaning them, it seems.

    None of what you recommended has worked.
    I live in a co-op unit that has seen goodness knows how many tenants and the bathroom tiles that were once white have a greyish cast to them.
    I’ve tried the dish soap with vinegar as well as the dishsoap with baking sod’s and literally nothing changed. I’ve tried using soft sponges and not at all soft scrub brushes. I have been able to scratch some off with my fingernails, but I can’t do the whole bathroom like this.
    What’s the next step ?

      yeah scrubdaddy sponge and Bar Keepers Friend, just make sure to use gloves, its way more acidic. But I use this on tough showers which havent been cleaned in ages. I recommend the liquid version, instead of the powder.

    There you are, I hardly get notices of new videos anymore, miss you and your wonderful remedies. QUESTION: do you have a solution for dried hard on water spots on windshields and kitchen counter tops? I wipe my tiles constantly but if I miss some and it dries it leaves a circle line that won't come off. I have tried everything I can think of and no success. I would be soooooo grateful, yes, I have hard water. I live in Mexico we don't have glass showers, all tile. But we do have hard water issues with the tiling.

      I hear you talking about the stronger strength vinegar can you use this on tiling too? I used regular vinegar didn't even touch it on my tiling, at all. Will higher strength eat the surface? I have a strong vinegar, but I think it is more than 10. My car windshields are a mess, I am sad. Just happened.

    I wander if applying ClearView automotive windscreen protectant to the shower glass would make a difference. It is designed to flow down water instead of beading and holding water drops. I think it is just alcohol based so perhaps just apply some rubbing alcohol once a week or so will suffice. Another thought .. standard car wax or those fancy ceramic liquid layers. The soap studs would have no chance of adhering to the glass to begin with 😎

    I have a clear glass brand new shower door. The squeegee method is great in principle,, but there's a bar in the middle of each panel which makes the squeegee method kind of disjointed. I cannot make smooth passes all the way to the bottom of the door, which is annoying...
