I used to feel extremely depressed every November (December was too busy for that). It stopped the day when totally by chance I noticed the buds getting ready on the trees and bushes in my garden. I haven’t felt depressed in autumn after that, Nature is really alive in some way or other all 365 days of the year and we need to honour that.

Again such wonderful recommendations Miranda, have read few of those including The Glove Maker and agree very much on your comments regarding this book, but there are also some great sounding reads I haven't read , but very much looking forward to getting and reading . Also great Broach a woman after my own heart 💖 . Thank you Sharon X

I’m thrilled to go out every morning, feed the birds in many different places in the garden and take walks early in the morning to the park nearby when I’m the only one there. Thank you Miranda. I can’t keep quite up with you and have my books you’ve recommended next to my bed ready to go. Loving Mrs Bird. I am starting to study about London and The Blitz. I’m in the US. Just watched Darkest Hour about Churchill and his decision to stop the Germans.
I love being part of this book club and all you and your Mum share.

Such a beautiful collection, Miranda. I'm nearly finished with my first Lord Peter Wimsey in The Nine Tailors. I've loved every second! You spoke so eloquently about Wintering. I agree you sometimes just have to lean into those winters, but so comforting a reminder that spring and summer will be around too. A cold evening in the Peak District so I spent a wonderful evening watching the Joan Hickson 4.50 from Paddington. Oh, to have the glorious efficiency of Miss Eyelesbarrow!

OMG!!! Miranda it’s like you live in a Bookstore 🥰🥰🥰... which would be a dream, I’ve never seen these books.. only the other room with wall to wall books..I love all the recommendations because I tend to puzzle more in the winter so it’s really nice to have winter recommendations to kick start my reading...I’m currently reading “The Thursday Murder Club” by Richard Osman ( one of your recommendations) and I love it..🥰 but I’m trudging along because January is my slowest reading month “Dinner with Edward” will have my whole weekend because I will listen to the audio while puzzling and eating way too many snacks🥨🍰🍫🍪oh!!! I got another bibliophile book for Christmas “BOOKS MAKE A HOME” by Damian Thompson You really need to be featured in one of those books (not flattery..Fact) ok blah blah blah! This message is way to long 😂🥰 please tell Donna I said hello ♥️

Su.ch a nice collection of books. I read Jane's Country Year and loved it. I also love Winter particularly the silhouettes of the trees, the antics of the birds that come to the feeders in the garden and the delight of seeing bulbs pushing through the ground, no matter how cold it is. Just wonderful.

Your brooch motif works so well, and this one is a spectacular example! I am looking forward to Dinner with Edward next week, and my copy of Jane's Country Year arrives tomorrow. I love the idea of celebrating darkness, and accepting winter, especially allegorically as a time of recovery, epiphanies and preparations. I didn't have the easiest autumn and winter, so Katherine May's book was a lifesaver for me. Lots of good stuff here.

Getting to see this a bit late as we're almost halfway through February now, but still plenty of winter left to revel in some of these books. Last month I got back from spending three weeks in Scotland, hauling 34 books back with me, and Burns For Every Day of the Year was one of them. I am enjoying dipping in and out of that, and look forward to checking out some of these recommendations too.

@@MirandaMills, I started to rethink buying so many books when my husband and I were racing through Frankfort Airport to make our connection, loaded down with the bulk of them in our carry-on bags. Fortunately, a man who had been on our Edinburgh flight and got ahead of us warned them at the gate that we were on our way. They actually headed out looking for us, met us on our way, and carried our bags the rest of the way to the gate with literally minutes to spare. So, t turned out well and I now have a huge stack of books to work my way through!

I've been so inspired by your videos to read more seasonally! It's something I'd never really thought of doing before Booktube, though I always loved books which take you through the year. But really thinking about reading books linked to the season does so much to romanticise it and encourage you to notice all that is good and beautiful in each part of the year. So many wonderful books! The Morville Hours sounds like a book I need to have and I’m also interested in Mrs. Tim. I’m a cozy mystery lover for many years and agree wholeheartedly with these recommendations. Winter is also one I feel I need. And I love the cover of The Glovemaker. My favorite of all these books though is The Lighted Window. I’m entranced by glimpses of rooms through a lighted window. There’s something so cozy and comforting to me of a table or desk in a window with a lamp or candle burning.

Thank you for the wonderful January recommendations, Miranda. I've just ordered 'The Lighted Window', 'Jane's Country Year' and 'The Morville Hours'. As January is summer here in NZ, I'm currently reading Stella Gibbons' 'Swiss Summer' with JL Carr's 'A Month in the Country' to follow. Your recommendations for late winter reads will be perfect for staying cool despite the flipped seasons. Best wishes, Jason

Thank you for your January selections, Miranda. "The Moreville Hours" sounds like a great book to read along with the seasons as 2022 progresses, so I think I will treat myself to a copy. I love to cozy up with mysteries in the winter and have just started Alexander McCall Smith's "The Sunday Philosophy Club" series. It is very cold and frosty here in NY also, but today we are treated to bright sunshine and a clear blue sky. Heavenly!! Keep warm!

The Morville Year, her second book, is especially good if you want more of a month-by-month seasonal read, but I do think it’s a good idea to read the first book too! I like the Sunday Philosophy Club books a lot - at least the ones I’ve read so far! Xxx

I read Dinner with Edward at the start of the year and am looking forward to the discussion😍. Wintering is a great book too. My challenge this year is seasonal reading alongside whatever else I happen to be reading. I found a very cheap second hand copy of the Ivington Diaries before Christmas and am reading that seasonally as well as the Almanac and chapters from The Country Child. I’ve also decided to read the relevant flower chapters from Kasia Boddy’s Blooming Flowers and Fiona Stafford’s A Brief Life of Flowers, so I’ve just read the snowdrop chapters. It’s very enjoyable and makes me feel grounded and more appreciative of the changing seasons.
The Morville Hours has been on my shelf for ages but I’m not sure I can manage that as well seasonally!

Thank you for your wintery collection.
There are two books „speaking“ to me:
At the momentI I‘m reading Wintering. I really enjoy it, Somehow I feel connected with the author even though she lives a completly different life.
And I have been to the garden of K.Swift (she signed a copy of her book for me). It is so beautiful you really should go and visit if you get the chance!
