You are going to break my bank account haha! I am making a list as my goal this year is to remove all electronics from my room at night and make time to read as a wind down before sleep instead of just scrolling. And since i love horticulture, so many of these are right up my alley. have a wonderful weekend, Miranda!
Miranda you have the BEST BOOKS I’ve ever seen… and I’ve watched lots of other BookTubers’ channels and I realized the ones I like mentioned You Every-time so I keep watching 😂😂.. (not kidding) .I’m a very emotional reader and if I’m feeling sad I only want to read cozy books and I look around at my bookshelves ( ha!! I have bookshelves now 🥰) and realized I’m always brought back to all the books that You ever recommended… see I just say the same thing all the time… now I’m constantly asked “ what are you doing, watching Miranda’s RUclips videos” they literally answer the question for me… I love art books too.. I really get excited when I see a puzzle I’ve assembled based on the art in my book..and “The Lost Spell” is amazing Morgan loves that book so I got her the audio too and the sound effects are WONDERFUL 🥰 ..lastly because I can feel myself rambling… I realize I read cookbooks for the illustrations and short paragraphs of information..and I think instead of searching for books with no death, or tragedy, I’ll put my art book and a couple of my heavily illustrated cookbooks by my bedside…thank you again for another great video… Tell Donna I said hello…I loved Part I also but the comment would have just been more of the same 🥰📚💕
Thank you so much, Kiki, for your lovely comment! Like you, I love reading from my cookbook collection (and admiring their illustrations/photography/ china!). I hope you have a lovely start to the weekend! 💖📚
The Allison Uttley books sound wonderful. I had a subscription years ago to a magazine that has safely changed over the years, but back in the 80’s when I first discovered it a writer named Jo Northrop contributed essays each month and they were mostly about the seasons and her dogs and her home in the country in I think the Carolinas. It was one of my favorite things each month to read and I still wish I had kept those magazines. Sadly Jo Northrop died quite a few years ago but before she passed away, a selection of her essays were published in a book called Country Pleasures. I am pleased to at least have that. You’ve given us a wonderful selection of books to choose from. Thank you, Miranda.💕
You're very welcome, Sandy. I'll look out for "Country Pleasures." Thank you for the recommendation. Jo Northrop's writing sounds a little like a later Gladys Taber's essays? I'm so glad you at least found a collection of her writing!
You are so inspiring Miranda!! I have discovered you just 2 weeks ago and already bought soo many of your recommendations. Now reading the woods in winter and loving it. Thank you for your beautiful work. Love from Barcelona
I loved your book suggestions. Thank you. I’m a huge gardener with a love of writing myself, so the garden suggestions were fun. I especially loved the thoughtfulness you show to your Mom of taking her a cup of tea in the morning in bed. What a kind and loving daughter you must be and such a blessing I’m sure for her😊
From the blue and white vase to the tulips, the cover of Newlyn Flowers looks like a signature Miranda arrangement! So pretty. As usual, your joyful enthusiasm has sparked my inner literary detective. Having fallen head over heels for Clare Leighton's The Farmer's Year, I'd love to find a copy (within my budget!) of Country Matters. I can't tell you how many times (seriously!) "Miranda's RUclips " shows up in my gratitude journal. Thank you again for the inspiration and literary joy.
Thank you so much, Pamela for those very kind words! I love that cover, and also find illustrations and art so inspiring. I do hope you can find a reasonably priced copy of Country Matters! Clare Leighton's books are so special!
I enjoyed hearing about your calming morning routine and how it sets you up for the day. I also love how you repeat your recommendations from past videos, as it helps to jog my memory and remind me of the books I’d earmarked before and perhaps forgotten about. Keep doing what you do, Miranda. 🥰
Thank you for these two videos Miranda. Lots more inspiration here. When you first mentioned The Country Diaries some time last year, I put it on my wish list and then was gifted it for my birthday. It was so nice to start reading it from 1st January this year. I always refer to the list of writers at the back of the book (a lot of whom were country parsons!) and then find myself going on a tangent and discovering even more books and diaries I would love to read.
Thanks, Miranda! I didn’t know Carry Ackroyd before seeing her work in the book you showed us. The combination of a barn owl, a palette reminding me of David Hockney, and the … magic words “John Clare and me” made me look up Nature Powers and Spells immediately on the internet. Unfortunately it seems to be out of print and the only vintage copy available is very expensive. What I could easily get though is A Sparrow’s Life’s As Sweet As Ours with her bird illustrations. That looks very beautiful too. By the way, I don’t know whether you know The Bedside Book of Birds by Graeme Gibson, with a foreword by his wife, Margaret Atwood. The new edition published last year is gorgeous!
What a pity, Emma, but A Sparrow's Life's as Sweet as Ours is lovely too: a treasure my copy of it as well. I collect her cards too and am lucky enough to have a print of hers from when I first discovered her art. Thank you so much for the recommendation. I don't have the Gibson book, but will put it on my wish list.
Hello Miranda, The recommendations were amazing! I took so many notes of what to search for next (which is basically everything you mentioned). And I adore Eric Ravilious's art - I have the Thames and Hudson editions of 'Ravilious and Co' and 'John Nash Landscapes'. And thanks to an earlier recommendation from you, I just found and received 'Life & Art of Clifford Web'. As always, I'm thankful to you for elevating my reading journey and imbuing it with much joy. All the best, Jason
Thanks so much for your very kind comment, Jason! Those are all such favourite and inspiring books! Well done finding the Clifton Webb. I’m so happy to share the joy these beautiful books bring to me.
Oh Miranda, absolutely loved this part 2, I’m a big fun of country living, old customs and nature writing as well as illustrated books. Thanks for sharing those. ❤️📖
Such a wonderful selection Miranda. I loved getting a little snippet into your morning routine. I would love to see a Day in the life vlog or an Evening/Morning routine vlog. You always seem so creative and productive. ❤️
I enjoyed this as much as Part 1, thank you! I hope I can find more Alison Uttley books as The Country Child was such a great comfort read. I love Clare Leighton’s Four Hedges and Country Matters sounds just as wonderful. I love nature writing and will look up many of these. Thank you again.
Thanks so much, Ruth! I’m so glad you enjoyed the videos. Yes, Clare Leighton’s are wonderful too. Hope you can find some more Alison Uttley to try too.
I love the idea of having an art book for in the mornings! At the moment I have been reading Walt Whitman's poems and Dorothy Sayers short stories before bed. Thank you so much for sharing. I think 90% of my book wish list are from your recommendations!
Hi Miranda, yes I did recommend "Reflections from a Garden" and Im glad you were able to get hold of a copy and I hope you are enjoying dipping into it. Lots of titles to explore in your bedside table list of books, thank you. How like a Vermeer your setting looks in your video, absolutely beautiful. I wonder, do you listen to the radio as part of your lovely morning routine? If you do you might like to look for "Rain Later, Good: Illustrating the Shipping Forecast" by Peter Collyer when you are browsing the second hand book shelves, if you don't already have a copy. Happy reading, Teresa 🧂📚
I thought it must have been you, Teresa! Thank you so much again, and it’s a lovely book so I’m very happy to have found a secondhand copy. Hope your weather isn’t too bad!
Hello, Miranda. My book collection is not as great as yours but I have always loved Allison Uttley's essay books and have a couple of them. One of my very favourite books is Traveller in Time. Her writing is, as you say, exquisite.
Miranda, This was such a lovely selection of books. I'm inspired to delve into prose and poetry inspired by nature and am sure that doing so will enhance my enjoyment and appreciation of the world around me. I love your practice of starting your day by viewing beauty and the volumes you showed were stunning! I'm fond of anything floral: paintings, photography and fabrics. Enjoyed your IG post of snow drops!! 🌻🌺🥀💮
This is the first video I have seen of your channel. I was searching for Anna Koska's book that's how I came across here. Very intreaged and I am now following your channel to have a good look around in the morning.
Thank you so much for this wonderful vlog it was very inspiring and I have written down a "few" ;) titles to look out for. I tend to pick up the same sort of books over and over so your recommendations are always welcome and allow me to branch out sorry for the pun
I've just ordered the new edition of Jane's Country Year! I can't wait for it to arrive. Thanks also for all the other recommendations, my list grows ever longer.

I want to Thank you ever since I found you I have discover the love for reading . I do have to say I love Seasonal reading .. Thank you!🌸
Thank you Miranda :) This was really intriguing for me as I'm not really a non fiction reader and wish I could be. Some of these titles look very fun/interesting so have added them to my list to check out.
Miranda hi I love your videos with your mom your very blessed to have the relationship you have with her. I wanted to tell you Miranda is my father's last name I think it's a beautiful name now changing subject again I to love poetry I love to write it too keep up the good work we all enjoy you
Have you read Patrick Taylor's Irish Country Doctor series? Curious to know your thoughts on those. I have 4 or 5 of those so far but have not had a chance to read any yet. They just seemed like something I will love. I love Helene Hanff. After reading 84 Charing Cross Road years ago, which is one of my favorite books, I decided to get all her other memoirs. Q's Legacy, Underfoot in Show Business, Duchess of Bloomsbury Street, Apple of My Eye and Letter from New York. I liked them all but 84, Charing Cross Road is still the best. On your recommend I have picked up Miss Buncle's Book, Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont, The Diary of a Provincial Lady along with several Nancy Mitford and Elizabeth Fair titles. Books I may never have considered had I not found your channel!
Another great video Miranda. I get excited when I get notifications of a new video. I love your recommendations. I bought the Diary of an Edwardian Lady and really enjoyed it. I have other titles on my tbr based on your recommendations. I love nature and nature writing so this video was perfect for me ☺️. I still need to get some more books from Robert Burns. I love his poetry.
Hi Miranda, I only discovered your site a week or so ago, and am loving your videos. As an artist I particularly liked this one with all the fabulous illustrations. (Glad you're a Ravillius fan). You're probably familiar with his work, but if not , may I humbly suggest the writings of Llewelyn Powys. I feel sure you'd like his work. Earth Memories, Somerset and Dorset essays, The Twelve Months, The Book of Days. I notice that most of your comments are from women, but you've definitely got at least one male fan now. Graham.
So many great recommendations! Thank you so much! I especially enjoyed all the artbook recommendations :) From myself, I would add - In The Picture: The Year Through Art by Andrew Graham Dixon.
Hello Miranda, I was wondering have you ever covered.....books specifically on people's diaries or journals....I was wondering could you recommend any? I just love all your videos, thank you for being such an inspiration 🙏⭐⭐

that's a lovely goal to have! I also try to make a big effort to get off my phone in the late evening!
I’m from United States and absolutely love your channel.
