Loss hits you in all kinds of ways so I hope you will give yourself the time and grace to deal with it in your own ways. I lost both my parents in the space of two years, and it is still hard to believe they´re gone. But you do get through it.... though the grief CAN hit you out of the blue. It´s a process. But it´s also a testament (I think) to how much the person you lose has meant to you. The memories at least don´t go away!

I am so sorry about your mother in law. My heart goes out to you and hurts for you. P.C. runs in my family, and it's especially hard because it is often so quick. Even when you have time to prepare, brace yourself, and anticipate, you are never prepared for that final moment. I'm glad that things are beginning to settle again in your life, and I'm glad you found at least a few things to go through the motions of knitting. You're allowed to cut back or phone it in once in a while.

Whitney- so sorry for your loss. I lost my father and father in law to the same horrible disease. You and your husband need to give yourselves a lot of grace right now. Speaking from experience I can definitively say that dealing with a catastrophic illness of a parent and the grief of loss can be very deceptive. You think you’re handling it just fine when it’s really effecting everything you do. Be aware that you’ve been through A LOT and you are probably distracted and not at your best. Be kind to yourself, it will get better with time. Get plenty of rest and do some mindless fun things. Take care.

Whitney, I love you and your videos. Thank you for allowing us into your life and for touching our hearts. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family.
Misery loves company, and knowing an accomplished knitter like yourself also has to frog projects helps a beginner knitter like myself come to terms with the process.
Alao ... tell me you've seen Falling For Figaro and love it as much as I do (why on Earyh is it no longer available on Netflix???)

I’ve knitted so many garments and making the largest size can be kind of a slog. My latest project was the agnete cardigan in the largest size for my mom, and she wanted it lengthened even (which was a good thing because PK pattern grading and especially lengths are so effed up). I originally wanted to make one for myself next in the same size but all I want to knit now is socks and hats for a while. I’m finding so much joy in my second musselburgh hat as a palate cleanser.

I totally understand the need to take a break from garment knitting, that's why the Riptide135 scarf was such a soothing project for me 💙 If you need a more size-inclusive option for a brioche cardigan, here are a few options: Linger by Åso Buchta (free), Plover by Jacqueline Cieslak, Pan Cardigan by Sari Nordlund, or Belleterre by Amy Christoffers.

@@knittedbywhitney it’s like you read my mind! I actually am very interested in another brioche cardigan that’s graded better. I’ll check those out. Thank you!

2024 has been the Year of the Frog 🐸 for me. I think what has happened to me is that I can now see when yarn and patterns are mismatched early on in my knitting. If I have doubts, I take it out. I have returned to smaller projects with patterns and or designers that I have had success with in the past. I have also found that breaks from knitting are helpful. I’ve sewn a few summer tops to boost my confidence 😉.

Cheers to finding ways to make our knitting successful! 😊 I don't mind frogging most of the time because I always learn something, but I'm also sticking with familiar patterns lately because I need to finish a garment to feel good about my knitting 😅

My thoughts are with you and your family!
I could tell the difficulty you had discussing the poor design of the sweater. As a fat woman, I know that feeling like... sometimes upsizing done poorly is worse than not having options at all. It feels like, ok, fine, you got our hopes up and this? This is acceptable? I wish you hadn't tried in the first place*. The yarn is spectacular though, so I'm excited that you have a new plan.
I really enjoy watching your episodes because of the aforementioned also being a large human. I've started stuff from your recommendations, and it's always a delight to see your rav profile pop up in the product images and/or projects! I deeply appreciate your content-fat representation is truly a minority in the knitcasting world! Thank you for your voice.
*I don't know this designer, I don't know this pattern, I'm speaking to the general frustration of getting our hopes up and then being forcefully reminded that we don't rate extra care

Thank you so much for your lovely comment 💕 I completely agree that sometimes bad grading is worse than not grading to my size at all because you're right that it gets our hopes up! I'm so touched that I can provide a good example to you for pattern choices 🥰

Very sorry to hear of you and Doyle’s sad news ❤ my heart goes out to you both during this difficult time.
You’re always so good to recognise when you need to frog a project, even when so many hours have gone in. You are very intentional and while it’s so annoying to rip back all your hard work, it’s always worth it!! Another great video 💛💛

Awww thank you so much Aoife! I think I'm this style of knitter because right from the beginning when I learned how to knit, I was always chasing a new skill or a pattern for something I didn't already know how to make, so I guess I'm just happy to learn and making mistakes and ripping out is part of learning ☺️

My heart goes out to you both for your loss and for your knitting dilemma regarding sizing. I too have had that same experience as I was on the opposite end of the spectrum when I was young. I could not buy clothes and stores because they were too big. They didn’t make knitting or sewing patterns that were small enough for me either. I’m wondering if this is the universe telling you it’s time to design sweaters for yourself. Melissa Leapman as a sweater named 6000+ pull over possibilities. The largest size is 58 inches. Ann Budd has two books one named top down sweaters and the other is the knitters handbook of sweater patterns. These go up to 54 inches. I wish you luck.

I just wanted to say I am glad that you actually say who the designers are whose patterns don't work out since I find alot of other Podcaster will not say the name or pattern just that it doesn't work and it's pretty frustrating.

I just found your podcast. I’m so sorry for your familiy’s loss. Grief is like a seashore in that sometimes those waves are gentle and sometimes they’ll knock you on your butt. Go with all of them. The only way to deal with loss is through. I enjoyed the rest of the video and as a large woman I haven’t bothered to do a sweater because I can’t do that much knitting to hope that it’ll be right

Whitney, I'm so sorry for your loss. May her memory be a blessing! I'm thinking that continuing with the gift knitting could be a good thing. I painted a pair of side tables during the time my father died. They looked beautiful, turned out well. And every. time. I looked at them, they sparked grief. I neglected them. I put cold drinks on them. I scuffed them. I wanted them to suffer. I barely tolerated their existence in my life for a few years and felt such relief when I gave them away. So unless you want a garment reminder, I suggest gift knitting. And perhaps check out volunteer finishing a project for someone through the Loose Ends Project. Could be therapeutic. Be well.

I'm sending my condolences as well. We lost my MIL a couple months before the pandemic started, and we still miss her and it is still hard. I also share your frustration at supposedly size inclusive designs that are poorly executed. I feel like before I attempt anything as a fat woman I first have to do so much research to see if the designer really designs for bodies my size, or just pays lip service, and I hate it. I'd rather some designers just not offer large sizes, than offer them but do a bad job, which serves as a booby trap for plus size knitters.
