- SpaceX will begin launching Starship prototypes this year at SpaceX Boca Chica. Isla Blanca Beach Park on the southern tip of South Padre Island Texas is the best possible viewing area. This drone footage from Jan 5, 2019 shows an aerial view with some important information for visitors.
If you have any questions please ask in the comments below and I'll answer as soon as I can. Check back for more detailed info in this description.

Excellent drone tour - I had to laugh when I saw the boat and its name, "Of Course I Read the Instructions". Clever.
Great work!! Really looking forward to bring my family back down. I think I've already picked out my spot in the sand from your video! ;) Take care and thanks again for keeping us updated!
Love it!
My dad used to say "if all else fails, read the instructions"
Nice tour. Thanks.
I have a friend who's in the RV park for summer... cool to see this.
That was cool
Lovin the drone ship 🚀
Thanks :) Big SpaceX fan here obviously
SPadre you are not alone in that. Regards and thanks from Ireland 🇮🇪
Bellísimo
Cara isso foi irado!
Sou louco por foguetes, é não vejo a hora desse colosso da spacex decolar . Congradulations.
Bountiful place, I know where my future holidays are going to be, neighbours might be a bit noisy though.
Cool
Thanks for showing this, it's very informative for none Americans like myself - I'm from England - who plan to travel to the States one day to view a launch. Bare in mind, when SpaceX starts to test and launch both the booster and ship together there will probably more of an influx of sight seerers.
Can I ask, during a launch what is the size of the exclusion zone. I see this is 5 miles from the launch site, can you get closer?
how many miles in direct line is the launch pad from the rv park ....??
What are the parking options on launch day? Is it crowded?
From those viewing facilities, how far is it actually to the launch pads. The image made it look like it is far away
Yes Charles Cotter and I’ll be waving to you 🤣🤣🤣
What brand/model drone did you use? I’ve been thinking of getting a DJI Mavic Mini as my entry into drone videography.
Mavic 2 Pro, I love it and still learning all the features. It was funny trying to land on the boat, it would not recognize the moving deck and refused to land, took a bit to force it lol
This is my first drone too, immediately studied for the UAS107 FAA license which really helped understand everything. Drones are becoming highly regulated, be aware of your local laws. Also drone usage at Boca Chica is illegal.
SPadre apparently the DJI Mavic mini is small enough to not require any registration.
Impressed with the drone. Amazing what they can do and how easy they make it for the user.
Hi, which of the mentioned areas is the place to see the launch?
If starship goes the way we hope there going have to double the size of that place
When we got to chat w Elon before Starship presentation thats exactly what he said, Boca Spaceport will expand greatly
I live at Brownsville I have seen it too
So, are you visible anywhere in the shot? Just curious...
Gonna be the world most expensive camping site :)
@SPadre Do you fish in the annual TIFT by chance?
No I've never fished in a tournament, but TIFT is a huge event here!
What an office! :). Extremely informative and pure eye candy. Rockets in paradise. 🚀❤️
@@spadrevideo Thanks, was hoping I could meet you one day to thank you in person for all that you do...I'm up there helping out with TIFT every year in August. For those who don't know, the Texas Intl. Fishing Tournament (TIFT) is a great family-oriented fishing tournament for both beginner and advanced fisherman which, like SpaceX, brings a lot of visitors to SPI.
@@zendragonz7196 Thx Zen :) Yeah I think everyone that comes for Starship is in for the experience of a lifetime! Just hoping to make everyone feel welcome!
@@Thewebpro well now you know where to find me most days ;)
"this year" is almost over, isn' t it?
So we want to do this next month but we are having a hard time finding a rocket launch date - any suggestions on how to find that out?
3rd week of April closest guess
Will that be far enouph? Space X does not know how loud Starship will be. How far is the launch pad from there? Can't see it from the pictures.
Launch Pad is 5 miles away.
Do I book a viewing weekend through you? I am debating on buying an RV or renting hotel rooms
David, please check our site www.spadre.com for hotels and more. Also Isla Blanca Beach Park number is 956-761-5494
If you decide to stay at a hotel, We have worked out discounts with a couple of the resorts on the island. If you message us on twitter before making your reservations, I can get you the discount codes you need for booking
I stayed at La Quinta last September. I really liked the place and being the end of the season their rates were very cheap. Do you have a deal with them?
Have placed deposit on Cybertruck but will book now best viewing hotel for anything SpaceX in March or later.
jtoombs56 yes, can you private message me on Twitter at @spacepadreislse so that I can give you discount codes?
What about driving down to Boca Chica Beach? Is that accessible before/during a launch?
They close the roads off before rocket burn tests(static fire) and launches. Folks living at the Boca Chica village, as I understand it, are warned to evacuate until the road is allowed open again.
correction...They close the road...not roads.
Road is closed, and Boca Chica beach itself is evacuated before tests and launches.
South Padre beache is open.
Boca Chica Village is evacuated of non-SpaceX people.
I'm from idaho so Idk how flat it is there so can you see starship from ground level or will I need to get higher?
Send this to a bunch of flat earthers and blow there minds
It’s totally flat, even when factoring in the quarter inch per mile or so of drop to compensate for the circumference of the earth. Hahahaha!
Yes, you can see from ground level
@@spadrevideo thx, also would I need binoculars? Planning cuz I'll be on s padre in October
Ryan Ritter you can see it without binoculars, but it is 5 miles away - so binoculars would definitely be nice! If you private message me on Twitter @SpacePadreIsle, I can pass along some hotel discounts that you can use in October
