    We are now doing weekly aerial flyovers depending on the support that we get. Our cost range from pilot fees to rental fees of the Cessna 152 that is used for the flyovers over the sites.

      And thats why I think spacex is crazy wanting to reorbit them all after landing on the moon and/or mars. There's ~100t of raw stainless steel in each of them. If you could repurpose that material for more permanent construction projects, that would be so much more value for their effort. Getting enough fuel to re-fly is going to be a logistical nightmare.

    at 9:33 in the video, if you look close at the upper center of the frame, you can see a nice outline of the circular bottom of the vehicle etched into the concrete from the impact. You can even make out the landing leg mount locations. That outline perfectly marks the point of impact.

    This footage will be of great use to all the engineers...
    My favorite word in 2020 or thee Starship Project Development... is Reiterate...
    RGV,,, the impact circular indentation on the landing pad is remarkably noticeable in your footage. What a marvelous point of progress this test was...
    Spacex has made this rocket almost as simple as a common bottle rocket not to waste anything, unnecessary components, in the research for a reliable, reusable propulsion system.
    So hard to wait for Sn 9 to nail the landing and to push the boundaries of space, in LEO, world space transportation, reentry, fuel Tank orbiters, etc. Continued, testing ,
    Can wait to see life support systems united with propulsion system testing... Thank you Elon.

      That's probably why there's a lot of damage on the tent. If it had exploded in the middle, maybe the tent would have survived.

      @fo shizzle that's prolly true. But i doubt the landing spot was very intentional. Due to the loss of one engine. The second probably could make up for the difference in gimbal.
      True about tank farm and tent.

    The entire thing seems more like a collapse (sideways) than an big explosion (that would blast it in all directions), the explosion itself was not that big.

      Not a great deal of fuel and oxidizer left I'd imagine, even if pressure hadn't plummeted I imagine there would have barely been fumes left.

    • @Scott_C
      @Scott_C 3 года назад +4

      Agreed. Once the tanks split and ruptured. The resulting fireball seemed to mostly just consume the remaining fuel and LOX. The debris clearly looks more like just a tank that lost its integrity.

    • @tonyvelasco5732
      @tonyvelasco5732 3 года назад +4

      Impact simply crumpled the ship, and then the splitting of some of the metal during crumpling released the small amount of remaining fuel to burn off. Not a huge explosion like SN4, but vigorous enough that a few pieces made it off of the pad and out into the bay on the other side of the road.

      @@tonyvelasco5732 agree. In the videos you can clearly see the impact shock ripple up through the tank as it slams down. For a brief second it’s standing.

      The hover it did at 12500km was probably done to burn off any excess fuel just incase it did crash, there was probably little more than fumes left in the main tanks when it did crash.

    Hmmmm. The circular imprint on the pad looks to be too small to simply be the imprint of the bottom outer skirt of SN8. Just compare to the size of the remaining cone section. It's much smaller. Maybe it is an imprint of another part of the ship... I don't know.
    As far as the comment about needing a bigger header tank (s) I'd say that isn't accurate. They lacked pressure to feed the engines as stated my Elon.... They didn't lack fuel. If you can't deliver the fuel fast enough you can't run the engines. Since the relight at the end was the only time the header tanks were used there is no way they ran out of fuel because of the size being inadequate. That would have been a huge engineering error if that were the case.
