Revved Up Knowledge is this going to work to my 98 bmw 328i sedan same thing when I went to smog check they told me that the communication is not reading. And they told me it’s a fuse
This vehicle would not start/run when the connection was lost. If your car is running still but cannot connect a scanner to it then you might have a blown fuse. I know Chevy runs a fuse for the connection port with the 12 V cigarette lighter fuse. Make sure all your fuses are good first. Hope this helps
I imagine you got a wiring diagram , did some tests and found no power - possibly a 5 volt reference or 12 volts was missing and found the spot to examine . This is not a 5 minute fix or a " magic wire " repair . Experience , research and logical testing . This is a pin fitment issue which is difficult to locate . Great find and fix .
Great video,a few questions: 1-- unplug the T.B. connector? how did you know that? why not another sensor? 2--and you say, you did have communication with the ECU after unplugging? 3-- if the faulty"wire" was the +12V to the ECU,how could you have it respond,before? Thanks
I have a 1999 SC 300 (that I love!) and my son lost only key. A new ignition/key coil was put in by a very well meaning friend-he'd done his vehicle that way and.......we ran into my particular year and model problems. Lexus wanted $800-$2000 to make me a key. Locksmiths wanted $4-500. Anyway you are really the only sunshine on the horizon. I'm a widow working part time at fast food. God bless your selfless attitude!! I got high lighted and I messed up!!!! My 1999 Lexus SC300 had the ignition CYLINDER replaced, it came with two keys, and we then found out this special problem. I'm so sorry for the mistake!!! God bless
My 2006 Pilot wont start....crank no start...battery old....new battery.....one week later did same thing...crank no start....I disconnected battery cables for 15 mins....got start.....I figured bad connection or stuck relay to fuel pump.....because I couldnt hear fuel pump kick on ....Thank you...I will check my wires....I didnt scan because I dont have a scanner.....getting one........Old shade tree car repair here...LOL
Hi Revved Up Knowledge! Im working on Toyota Landcruiser Estate. I hooked up my scanner and found a fault on the throttle position sensor and then removed the connector from the sensor to check. Then I went to hook up again the scanner and it wont connect to the engine ecm anymore and also the engine wont fire up. Might be the same problem on the video. Would you please tell where is that harness connector or the thick red with green color wire that you showed on the video connected please? Thanks in Advance!

I have a '95 Maxima. I'm testing the ECM for ground. Should all the ground wires in the ECM be connected to each other? All the ground wires in the harness have continuity among them.

My 2003 ram is being stupid like this tight now....itll commu icate with the BCM,etc. But refuses to connect to the ECM. Strangely enough, at random intervals a little red dot light will flash in the dash, or the "check gauges" light will flash while I'm driving. Sure sign of an intermittent open circuit...time to start checking connectors and pinouts. Yeaaaaah
I got an obd code U0140 with many odd readings. Like voltage drop and rise 3.6-42 volts, O2 sensor bank 1 going up to 8000 %, coolant dripping to -8 degrees. All these go back to normal but when they act up it’s randomly.

Thanks for the video! I'm working on my 7.3 power stroke. After disconnecting batteries to do some work it now throws a P0603 code on one of my scanners, and a no detect ECM on another one? Will try to look into the connections!
From what i have read that code happens when you disconnect your battery or or change your tune if you have tune-able chip. try clearing your codes with the scanner that lets you read it. most people that have the same code clear it and it doesn't come back unless they unhook the battery or switch tunes. hopefully it helps you
Thanks pal. Code gone but check engine light still won't go off. I did delete the air heater in outlet turbo tube, that threw a code but went away after clearing codes and has not come back. I tried the blue tooth cheap OBO11 scanner to do an injector buzz test as I am afraid I have a bad injector or two or wiring harness issue, but scanner won't connect. I think I'll hit a pro up with a scanner.
I have 06 highlander 2.4. Vsc and CE engine light comes on. Scanned a p0600 code. Performance is fine. Any suggestions? Even looks ok. I’m lost. Thanks for the help
How would I test a '99 7A-FE that cuts out for no reason. The starting is intermittent, I have to wait for the engine light to come on for the engine to start. All the electronic security features were removed some years back when it was doing almost the same thing. I suspect the ECU but it is giving me a knock sensor code from the OBD1
Wish my 2005 PT cruiser would be so easy there's an after market radio in before I bought it and a back up camera attached to it sometimes the back up camera would work then the next time it comes on. Yesterday I shut the car off but cigarette lighter stayed on I knew because I had my GPS in a light in there. It stayed lit. Obd wouldnt power up the device, and all the fuses are perfect, no power from pin 16 when car is off but when car is on its 13.5v. clock on the car always resets when you start the car and also car self diagnostics wouldnt work, any idea what to do or what to check?
My 06 Honda Accord 3.0 lost communication with ECM. Had replaced throttle body then clip broke, cracked housing so replaced again with pigtail and throttle body shows on computer to be working properly but the ECM doesn't even show up. Now my car is stuck in limp mode and won't go over 30 mph. Before replacing throttle body the second time I could unhook battery cables for a while and reset it. Now that doesn't even work. When all this began as long as I got up fast enough to set cruise control my car would run perfect as long as cruise was set before it went into limp mode. Any suggestions? You think this may fix my issue? I do have a little suspicion my ex did something to it like unhooked a wire somewhere but I've taken it to 3 different mechanics and so far the real issue can't be figured out. Please help. I don't know what to do

I have a question. I have a 2006 dodge charger 5.7 and I just bought the car and it has giving me so many issues. I already fixed the long block, has new alternator, battery, water pump. And it drives fine but I'm tired of the cluster always going crazy. The gauges move up and down all the icons on the dash pop out and it makes the sound like if I have a door open. Could it be an electrical problem? Or I need to change all my fuses. Everytime I take it to my mechanic they see nothing wrong with it. Because it doesnt act up on them and its frustrating.
@@RevvedUpKnowledge yes sometimes it does it like 5 or 6 times within 10 or 15 min of driving it. Or sometimes it doesn't do it at all.. but I did notice that when I have someone on the passangers side it acts up. Everything on the cluster goes crazy. It doesn't do it on bumps tho..
@@RevvedUpKnowledge I also left my car with my mechanic for 2 weeks so he can see what's wrong with it. He drove it from burbank to acton, ca daily and it never did anything with him.
If you have your car, start it and the kind of move/jiggle the key around without turning the car off. If things start to flicker or do what you’ve described then you may have a faulty ignition switch. Also i believe in your trunk there is a fuse box and underneath part of the box has some diodes and or electrical connections. Some of those may have bad connections as well. I would have your mechanic look into that

Ok Im have a problem with my 04 tax. Got a new battery and in the process my ECU got reset.. I leaned how to reset from videos on RUclips and article so I under stand it has to be driven to reprogram everything.. after that I returned back home hopeing everything WORK. Started it an HR later and still doing the same exact thing.. it was slaming into gears and when driving won't shift out of first.. (This is whats trickey. I'm under the impression it's resetting the ECU Everytime I start the car??? Or what can i do to get the ECU to reset itself properly AFTER my DRIVE ??? problem facing in Chevrolet captiva 2007 manual, DTC U0073(ECM/ECU lost communication), U0121(ABS MODULE lost communication) and P0500(Vehicle Speed Sensor) ,,,,suddenly instrument cluster stops working ,all needles(Temperature, rpm, speed etc.) showing 0 reading , ac stops cooling while blower keep running,reverse gear light stops working, Service Vehicle Soon light & MIL illuminates in cluster. and all happen intermittently and all together. Can anybody suggest solution?
check your ground connecting points. make sure they're all on correctly and not corroded. Also check your main fuse as well. jump starting your car not correctly can pop that fuse or it was popped and someone crimped the popped fuse together and causing bad connection

Thank you for watching! When you cycle the key to on position without starting does the check light pop up and then turns off after being started? The smog check guys don’t give you a list on what didn’t pass? I live in FL and we don’t have any state smog inspections so not too familiar with it.
@@RevvedUpKnowledge i get where you were going with the check engine light being on while key on. Just to verify the light works. Wouldn't the smog have to do with the evaporative emissions? Gas cap, canister solenoid or purge solenoid? Something along those lines? Oh great video by the way! Subbed and liked!
Thank you for your kind words! This vehicles problem is the intermittent power for the ecm itself. when there is no power to the ecm the light does not illuminate on the cluster. if your check engine light stayed on then theres a problem with your sensors but not could be many things other than emissions related.

I disconnected the throttle body sensor like u said but now my scanner tool gave me two permanent code saying throttle / pedal sensor. I went from 1 permanent code to 3 permanentcodes that I cannot delete
Revved Up Knowledge . Yeah I did that but I ended up installing a new throttle body and it resolved all of my issues. Thank you I think the fact that I got permanent codes was to confirm it was the throttle body problem because my previous code was Implausible data received from ECM/PCM.
No past experience or anything. Just from about an hour of checking and finally moving a certain part of the engine harness to check underneath it and I hear relays clicking. From there I singled out the exact wire and found it. Never happened again to that car and I see it once in awhile. Super happy customer!!
i was at pepboys yesterday.i got towed twice to 2 different locations.the guy tried hookin up his cpu...it didnt work...n he told me ide hafta get towed to buick dealership
what year make and model? some GM cars and trucks have the cigarette lighter and OBD diagnostics plug power supply integrated with each other. i would check your fuse first

Would really have loved to know HOW you determined that connection was bad. Your video is almost useless unless you have that particular vehicle

We’re some fuses on fuse box working & some weren’t ? I have 89 camaro. Replaced fuses but the light tester isn’t giving light to injector 1/2. Ect

I can read codes and port works but the ecu says there's no egr,cats,evap,o2 sensors etc mine does start and runs perfect.

Could be a short in you ECU wiring or a bad ground connection. You should some type of warranty though if the dealer just replaced it

Ok Im have a problem with my 04 tax. Got a new battery and in the process my ECU got reset.. I leaned how to reset from videos on RUclips and article so I under stand it has to be driven to reprogram everything.. after that I returned back home hopeing everything WORK. Started it an HR later and still doing the same exact thing.. it was slaming into gears and when driving won't shift out of first.. (This is whats trickey. I'm under the impression it's resetting the ECU Everytime I start the car??? Or what can i do to get the ECU to reset itself properly AFTER my DRIVE ??? Ifollowed instructions and took it on the exact RESET DRIVE.. it's just not being (ENTERD) idk I'm at a loss and need help
problem facing in Chevrolet captiva 2007 manual, DTC U0073(ECM/ECU lost communication), U0121(ABS MODULE lost communication) and P0500(Vehicle Speed Sensor) ,,,,suddenly instrument cluster stops working ,all needles(Temperature, rpm, speed etc.) showing 0 reading , ac stops cooling while blower keep running,reverse gear light stops working, Service Vehicle Soon light & MIL illuminates in cluster. and all happen intermittently and all together. Can anybody suggest solution?
check your ground connecting points. make sure they're all on correctly and not corroded. Also check your main fuse as well. jump starting your car not correctly can pop that fuse or it was popped and someone crimped the popped fuse together and causing bad connection

Most likely not. You probably have a bad ecm or an electrical short in your wire harness somewhere

Thank you for watching! When you cycle the key to on position without starting does the check light pop up and then turns off after being started? The smog check guys don’t give you a list on what didn’t pass? I live in FL and we don’t have any state smog inspections so not too familiar with it.
@@RevvedUpKnowledge i get where you were going with the check engine light being on while key on. Just to verify the light works. Wouldn't the smog have to do with the evaporative emissions? Gas cap, canister solenoid or purge solenoid? Something along those lines? Oh great video by the way! Subbed and liked!

This vehicles problem is the intermittent power for the ecm itself. when there is no power to the ecm the light does not illuminate on the cluster. if your check engine light stayed on then theres a problem with your sensors but not could be many things other than emissions related.

I disconnected the throttle body sensor like u said but now my scanner tool gave me two permanent code saying throttle / pedal sensor. I went from 1 permanent code to 3 permanentcodes that I cannot delete
Only disconnect to tighten the pin but you have to re install the pin back into the plug
Revved Up Knowledge . Yeah I did that but I ended up installing a new throttle body and it resolved all of my issues. Thank you I think the fact that I got permanent codes was to confirm it was the throttle body problem because my previous code was Implausible data received from ECM/PCM.

Just curious though at how did you discover it was that one wire-connector? Past experience? Schematic? Collaboration?
No past experience or anything. Just from about an hour of checking and finally moving a certain part of the engine harness to check underneath it and I hear relays clicking. From there I singled out the exact wire and found it. Never happened again to that car and I see it once in awhile. Super happy customer!!

what year make and model? some GM cars and trucks have the cigarette lighter and OBD diagnostics plug power supply integrated with each other. i would check your fuse first

Check ground wires and make sure they’re connected or not broken
Which ground wire ?? On the harness ??
I think there’s some on the intake manifold for the the injectors and the ECU
they usually are bolted onto the manifold or valve cover and the bolts are usually 10mm or 12mm.

Im going to try this...i just changed out the ecm and now the scanner says no communication when we hook it up to reset everything it clicks when i try to turn it over thats it
