  • In this podcast episode, DARE founder Barry McDonagh and DARE coach Michelle Cavanaugh were joined by Dr. Ellen Vora - a board-certified psychiatrist, acupuncturist, and yoga teacher, and the author of The Anatomy of Anxiety. She takes a functional medicine approach to mental health-considering the whole person and addressing imbalance at the root. Dr. Vora received her B.A. from Yale University and her M.D. from Columbia University.
Dr. Vora talked about her background in psychiatry and her disenchantment with conventional medicine, which led her to take a holistic approach to mental health. She talks about her shift to holistic psychiatry and her focus on root cause resolution rather than symptom suppression.
The discussion touches upon functional medicine, which is a medical approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of diseases, rather than treating the symptoms. Ellen discusses her book, "The Anatomy of Stress," and her approach to treating patients. The podcast ends with Barry asking Ellen about her advice for people struggling with anxiety.

Hi . I’m suffering from anxiety & lichen sclerosis of the vulv. I’m being treated by a holistic health lady but she just seems to give me phrases on what to retrain my brain . I don’t feel seem to be getting any better ! She goes through my life history & picks up on things that have been kept inside me . Don’t feel this is the case ? I feel it’s the anxiety from my lichen sclerosis. There doesn’t seem to be a cure for it 😪. Please advise me if I’m doing the right thing ? Thank you . X
