  • Holistic psychiatrist Dr. Kelly Brogan sat down with WellBe to share the story of how she went from being a conventional psychiatrist prescribing medications to one who takes a completely medicine-free approach. She discusses her own health journey with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and how that led her to dive into the research that challenged everything she'd learned in med school

Great interview and good job asking the tough questions about really tough conditions like schizophrenia. I found it interesting that Kelly said "in some cases this (holistic) route is preferential to conventional." It almost sounded like the first time Kelly has made an omission that in certain conditions meds can be "better?" Such a tough topic. Kelly might not be perfect (IMO) but I think she's light years ahead of traditional, wanna-be-science psychiatry and modern psychology. Psychiatry may have its place in some instances, but its a bloated and self absorbed field. Thanks for the video.

I couldn't agree more Patrick. I still am not sure what I would have done after my mom's manic episode except call the police, but I love Kelly and what she stands for and she is light years ahead of conventional psychiatry in her desire to help people fully heal their bodies and their minds. If you haven't checked out all of our content on our actual website www.getwellbe.com please do, we have a lot on the topic of holistic mental health. And then I'd love to have you as a subscriber to our youtube channel if you're not already. Sending my best, Adrienne

When I was seeking help for depression in the 90’s, pharmaceutical drugs were the prescribed route. Those drugs, over the years, have devastated and disabled me and I tried very hard to find a doctor to help me get off them. Not one doctor knew how to help properly. I subsequently rapid-tapered off 8 drugs, including a benzodiazepine, and now have Benzodiazepine Induced Neurological Disorder and live with constant headaches, cognitive impairment and extreme mental and physical fatigue. These pharmaceutical companies will never acknowledge the damage they cause with psych meds. We need more patients and doctors to speak out and we need more holistic psychiatrists and physicians like Kelly.

17:47 "like a remembrance". At the end of some other interview Kelly tossed out a vocab word, anamnesia. If I heard correctly. Has to be in the top ten of words all people should know. Hearing it stirred something ancient, like I could almost remember what that was, and then I remembered that it was itself the remembering. If memory serves, ha ha but also not ha ha. An amnesia, it almost looks like, and I guess closer to the Greek it'd be anemnesis, Plato's hint of past lives. But even if you don't go with some literal re-incarnation, the word and the idea are essential for remembering a remembering, remembering that we can remember something within ourselves. And so it has proven with me. I have six degrees but I'm' not sure I've ever convinced anyone of anything. But I have gone deep, and discovered (at the least) that my assorted illnesses come to me for me, as guides. To me, for me. I remember. And I remember all sorts of healings I've had that ill consorted with rational explanation. Of late, it seems to me, the deepest of all is this awareness of awareness. I remember that I am and always have been.

I love Kelly. She's right about not needing meds. There's plenty of work done in this area, but there could be and should be a lot more. The work is just being shut out of our awareness. It's there and we can find out which ways work the best if we are open to finding out!

That & so much of it being bias & in other words, set up to "demonstrate the benefit and effectiveness" of this new drug made up of harmful substances and chemicals. & So many of them (among the few that will actually conclude harm) say they cause issues in mice but always assume it won't in people lol like what. & The one that angers me the most is "generally recognized as safe" or safe at low/acceptable levels like NO mf it's either completely safe or it isn't. This wishy washy bullshit gray area is for the birds. Always refuse to admit anything that could potentially jeopardize profits. Or don't have trials for things they know they're gonna get a bad for profits answer. Like not testing for METALS in BABY FOOD. The levels are UNREGULATED. it's so beyond absurdity that you can't say it's not intentional, without even considering anything else.

I tend to over exercise during these times too
So explain to me how I’m supposed to implement strict lifestyle changes when I can barely function at a basic level?

I COULDN'T GET ANY HELP tapering off of Depakote from MHCD here in Denver, and I had a nasty RESPIRATORY VIRUS with a dry hacking cough.
Because I didn't think I couldn't get over this respiratory virus without discontinuing the Depakote. So, yes. I simply stopped taking Depakote cold turkey, and I am now a patient of Francesca Quinn N.D. here in Denver.
So, whether I'm not I'm REALLY Bipolar or whether or not I CONTINUE to have Bipolar Symptoms isn't really RELEVANT any more because I didn't believe that the Mental Health System cared if I died.

oh jeez, was she in that Healing film? I saw that a year ago or something. I was intrigued. I think I'd be even more open if I saw that now after a year's immersion in Wim Hoff and Dispenza and Abraham Hicks and Mooji and this wife of mine, who travels in her mind all over the universe and healed herself of something grave at around age thirty. I hate to "look things up." Was Kelly the narrator? Gonna ask my wife.

In the first 20mins she speaks of a mother who had been considering bringing her son to Belgium for Euthenasia, as it is legal there. Some people are shocked to learn that they have also legalized child euthenasia. People should not be shocked though, because the general attitude towards the mentally ill is contributed to by everyone, even those who are shocked by it.

A doctor thinks I have paranoid schizophrenia. I am taking atypical antipsychotic olanzapine and arstada. I told him that I have autism. There is no medicine for autism. He was quick to give me a diagnosis. I have no medical history or school record talking about schizophrenia before that doctor. I got a second opinion from a doctor and she does not see schizophrenia in me. I’m looking for an holistic approach to mental health.
