It was brought to my attention that it would be even more beneficial to switch modes of action on your insect program instead of just active ingredients! I’ve added another option in the description! Thanks for watching guys! More to come next week!
The lawn looks great! I scalped two weeks ago and was seeing really good results until two days ago when we had freakish below freezing temps for 2 consecutive nights.
Nothing that I know of specifically as I’ve never dealt with centipede. Luckily everyone in my neighborhood has the same grass type. I would just say to try to promote the growth in your Bermuda as much as possible.
There is no pharmacological difference between Bifenthrin and Permethrin. Both are pyrethroids so insect resistance to one will offer them the same resistance to the other. Permethrin is a very old and over used chemical so if bugs are resistant they are likely resistant to permethrin. Bifen is better for lawns because of its extended residual. It is not really water soluble and remains bound to soil longer. Permethrin works well for misting it is very effective for flying insects. I have also found it works well indoors especially in coat closets. It provides year round protection against clothes moths. A good insecticide combo to alternate with on lawns is Bifen IT and acelepryn or Bifen IT and imidacloprid.
Thanks for the good info! Always learning. I’m sure I read the combo on Do My Own and went with it. Glad you pointed out the mode of action is what’s important! Luckily I’ve never had too much of a problem with insects! Thanks for watching!
I’m not 100% sure on the page, but it mentions watering it in in order to control sun-surface level pests as well. It says the water doesn’t hurt the efficacy of the product.
Different insecticides kill insects in different ways. It’s possible for bugs to build up an immunity to a specific mode of action if used in one area for an extended period of time. I’m actually using Bifen IT in rotation with Dominion 2L this year. The grass is Tifway 419 bermudagrass.
Looks like a fan tip because his grass is so short. If you have taller grass, I would recommend an air induction tip, so it provide larger droplets that get down past the canopy.
Hey, I bought bifen i/t and cutter.... I have a deck in backyard... do you recommend spraying deck down too for mosquito control or only grass areas and bushes/ shrubs? Also do you recommend mixing cutter with the bifen in my chemical sprayer or only use bifen alone in the sprayer at its recommended dose? Thankyou
I haven’t read the Cutter label, but I know Bifen can be tank mixed. I usually mix it with my liquid fertilizer applications. Also, you can spray Bifen on structures as well as vegetation.
@@LawnInsider thanks for the quick response, one more thing, you mentioned you add bifen to your fertilizer mix. I just got the triple 18 and kelp and iron. Could I mix that all up with the bifen or better to do two separate sprays?
@@enzomoya1689 you should be able to mix it in with that app, but you may wanna do a jar test beforehand just to make sure you’re not getting any sludge.
I'm reading so much conflicting information about watering-in the Bifen after application, some say it should not be applied if rain is forecast within 2-3 hours as it needs time to dry and bind to the grass.... do you have a reliable source (like maybe from the manufacturer) that says it must be watered in immediately after application as I can not seem to find that information in the instruction leaflet that came with the product... I am applying it to control Chinch bugs Thanks for any more detailed information you can share Cheers
From the label: Lawns Use Bifen I/T as a broadcast treatment. To accomplish uniform control when applying to dense grass foliage, use volumes of up to 10 gallons per 1000 square feet. To ensure control of sub-surface pests including Mole Crickets using low volume treatments, (i.e. less than 2 gallons per 1000 square feet), immediately follow the treatment with irrigation of the treated area with at least 0.25 inches of water.
@@LawnInsider Thanks very much for your prompt reply, I actually read that as well but it doesn't seem to apply to me as I am not applying it to "dense grass foilage" but rather on a well manicured lawn of Tall Fescue and Kentucky Bluegrass cut to about 3"... I am applying the Bifen at a rate of 1 ounce per gallon of water over 1000 SQ Ft as per their instructions for chinch bugs. I find the instruction somewhat confusing... like what exactly do they mean by "dense grass foilage".... is a well manicure lawn considered "dense grass foilage" and why do the same instructions say to apply at a rate of 1 ounce per gallon of water over 1000 SQ ft for chinch bugs I really appreciate you trying to help!
Just to confirm - BIFEN IT is safe to apply to the lawn and will not kill the grass, correct? I'm concerned about applying due to the stray cats we feed that lounge in our yard
Hi, I sprayed my yard and house all over with bifen.... I sprayed the patio light right outside my door..... so far so good with mosquitos and keeping bugs out, but tonight, 6 days after spraying (no rain for 48 hours after I sprayed) when I was out at night with patio light on, the flies were BAD right at the light... swarming the light.... I sprayed the light and surrounding part of the house by the light... this was the 1st time since I sprayed that I went outside with patio light on..... will the flies that kept hitting the light eventually die off from the residual of the bifen it (7.9%) or is bifen just not effective for flies that are attracted to the light?
Hey Bifen does kill flies, so if they made/make contact with the Bifen they will die. It’s trickier with flying bugs because they’re not necessarily making contact with our applications and they can just fly in wherever/whenever they want. Flies have been bad this year around here. If it becomes a real nuisance you may want to consider using a Dynatrap and staking it as far as you can from your back porch area as you can.
