No, it's not really that much different... The point remains that racing chairs are basically car seats turned into office chairs. Car seats serve a purpose in a car with a driver sitting in them, not as an office chair, which has different demands and needs for productivity and ergonomics. For ex. bucket seats serve little to no purpose when you're not being rocked back and forth, like in a car, and can actually be uncomfortable on an office chair, depending on thingsd like the size/width of the person sitting in it, and how they want to sit, like sitting with one leg crossed or indian style, which is fairly common. DX chairs also have no way to adjust the backrest other than overall leaning it forward or backwards, and have little to no lumbar support. This is okay if you are relaxing/lounging in them, but if you need a more conservative posture , like say when gaming or doing productivity work on your PC, they are well, shit... Racing gaming chair companies even know that this is a drawback of there product, which is why they ship them with those goofy pillows, to try and address this flawed design. "gaming chairs" are gimmicks. Just get a good, overall, office chair.
@Witapro, Yeah! That's a cheap chair! I mean, sure, it's two or three times more expensive as a DXRacer, but it's still cheap. And that chair is shitty too! OK, sure, it's made of cast and milled aluminum instead of stamped and welded steel and is the result of years of engineering and revisions instead of just knocking off the shape of winged bucket seats (complete with seat-belt holes!), but it's still shitty.
It's just me or most of the people here in the comment section has no idea what are they talking about? I work as a Architect, I would sit for hours sometimes up to 15 hours and I tried gaming chairs such as Noblechairs and RXracer I ended having lower back and lower neck pain, Shoulder blade pain on rare occasions. In gaming or working my seating posture always the same, straighten back and lean back very slightly which helps me in focus on the task at hand. i personally use Steelcase Gesture Chair which is office chair. I still have Noblechairs and used it for watching movies and music listening Gaming are great as 1st when I try to relax lean all your body weight on the back and lower the back support angle. But then times that it needs 100% attention and concentration over long period I have no choice but to lean forward that adds lots of weight on the back(even worst if slouching forward) due the design of gaming chair Gaming chairs are fine if you are kind that of person love to lean back a lot, But I have a habit of having upright posture when doing tasks surfing, gaming, working, video conference... etc. The only time I lean my whole body weight back is when watching movies or listening to music.
in conclusion, it all comes down to preference, i play a lot with my gamepad and tend to lean back 99% of the time while either gaming or just doing pretty much anything on the internet, using a standard office chair and i simply feel uncomfortable quite fast so i'm constantly changing positions to ones that are more malicious to the back, my boredom kinda leaves me completely careless over it also, aka my office chair is obsolete for my needs, this video is bullshit(since it claims 'top' yada yada are crap i dont feel restricted in my vocabulary). There's pretty much dozens of types of chairs in the gaming section and most of the reasons pointed out in this video only makes sense to the chair pointed out there, there's gaming chairs that give you an absurd ammount of comfort that a standard office chair cannot give you and yet give you the option to make you lean foward, of course i'm not aiming towards one of them and got an X Rocker in transit cause it seems to fit my needs in both comfort and utility(and then there's even utility in gaming chairs, you can have a sound system in them for a surround approach to boot your immersion or you can have a chair that has pockets in them for quick conventional tools, cup holder, etc). Such diversity out there...use the internet, check your wallet and then do your homework... You simply cannot approach a budget gaming chair, at best, and make a video saying "why the top gaming chairs suck", i was intrigued by the reasons and clicked the video only to get hit by complete bullshit putting all laws of relativity in the trash can.
There aren't much Gaming/Racing chairs of that price. TBH I'm really content with my purchase, I bought the Secretlab Omega which I am really enjoying, plus the Omega costs about 1/3 of the price of a Herman Miller.
nope far off im just really happy i bought a gaming chair, becouse the gaming chair in the video looks like a trash office chair to me, i spend over 300 for my gaming chair and its super good, yea iv i had over 1000 to throw out i would buy a herman miller but idont
@@swooty2805 Good for you, but don't chat shit about HM chairs, just because you can't afford them. Instead of wasting money on a SecretCrap chair, I'd have got a refurbished HM chair.
@@StardustLegacyFighter Not chatting shit really, it's an indisputable fact that Herman Miller chairs are really expensive, and buying used comes with a risk and are usually not even that substantially cheaper as people say they are.
You dont really get ripped of, as for the secret labs titan cost same as the $400 red chair he reviewed but have built in lumbar adjustment, and all the other function he said only office chairs have, te dif is that office chairs foam get bad quite quickly, iv had 1 and after a year or 2 it wasent supportive, heck it wasent even very supportive when it was bought, costed around $380 then i fixed a gaming chair 2 years ago, very supportive and it looks just like it did 2 years ago, the material havent lost itd form, yea office chairs is the best but we talk prices at $1000+ to beat the $400 gaming chairs
@@Murtaza2805 Dxracer is absolutely trash. Good office chairs start at 800, there's a reason for that. A good chair for long-term use don't cost 300. Gaming chairs aren't even good for the price either, you can find a budget office chair for the same price or a used high end chair.
I was a gamer chair fan for a long time, but i had no reference of other good chairs. I had a trust gaming chair, as well as a dx racer like chair (basically the exact same chair from the same chinese manufacturer, but without the dx logo). Then one day i bought an ikea markus chair i found second hand for just 35 euros, and let me tell you... The markus was more comfortable, less noisy, an WAYY cheaper than the other gaming chairs i used. So for the same price point, (the gaming chair i had were 200 euros and 150 euros respectively) you can get a WAY better chair that doesnt have "gaming" in its name. THE ONLY benefit of gaming chairs i have found is that the look really awesome. They look way better than office chairs in my opinion.
Gaming chairs are, mostly, terrible and they're way overpriced. Consumers don't know that because almost all the "reviews" are actually paid endorsements: the person "reviewing" the chair got it for free. And if they want to keep getting free stuff they have to keep giving good "reviews." That said most office chairs are terrible as well. There's an easy way to tell if your office chair is garbage: did you buy it at a retail store like OfficeMax/Office Depot, Staples, or Best Buy? Then it probably sucks. I would also suggest you get a mesh style chair. I'll never go back to a foam seat chair after using a mesh seat/back chair. You can work/game for hours and neither your butt nor back will get hot and the mesh is significantly more comfortable than foam because the mesh is firm but still shapes to your form. The most important reason you should buy a good chair over a shitty gaming chair though is the price: for the same price as a basic gaming chair ($350) I bought a Herman Miller Mirra (original) fully loaded, with all the features and options, on eBay. Just a few days ago I bought a brand new (open box) Herman Miller Aeron, again fully loaded, for just $518 with free shipping to boot. Again on eBay.
Oliver Cave LoL, yeah, my ass was like, "Damn that feels great, but oh so ugly." Oh, and an Aeron goes for about $1000 in the configuration I got it for $518.
The only reason I will not buy a chair like the Herman is that they are a strictly ergonomic chair. They don't have a "lounge" function that allows "vegetation-mode" like other chairs do. The Miller would be good for intense gaming session, but not good for RUclips marathon's or movies, as it will not let you adjust it into ultra laid back positions and does not have adequate back-rest height for this position either. Most premium gaming chairs and office executive chairs allow for retarded levels of reclining function, titling function, while having ultra high back-rests to accommodate this. The trade-off being that they lack proper ergonomics. Most of them only offer half-decent ergo's, And some are just plain damaging. I'm currently putting a Secret Labs Titan through it's paces, which happens to be the most ergonomic chair I've tried thus far. There is still a slight trade-off but so far I'm quite impressed with this package. I wanted to try a Maxnomic OFC but they don't ship to Australia and it would have costed an additional $400 to get it shipped through a 3rd-party carrier. Maybe next time Maxnomic. :D
I know that's not what it was made for, that's why I didn't buy it. My point was, premium chairs like the Titan cover both of those features, whereas the Miller only does one thing well.
Thanks for all your hard work making these. I really hurt my hand using gaming mice and your videos got me in the right direction. I got a contour mouse and haven't had any hand pain since.
Nice! If you have a larger hand the standard mouse is too small. Make sure you are not reaching up to the desk when mousing as it can compress the carpal tunnel and cause numbness in you hand.
I've got both types of chairs and I prefer the gaming one. Good gaming chairs have most of the adjustments of an ergonomic office chair, I don't need or want to tilt the seat forwards anyway. Gaming chairs have nice tall backs and bucket seats that are great for long sessions, ergonomic office chairs with head rests are typically far more expensive and completely different in style.
Dunno, but what he said is that gaming chairs only go up and down and don't have ergonomics and he is so wrong I want to kms, they have tilt lock, rock height and whatnot mechanism. And there are some 100 bucks racing chairs which may be good. I myself don't have one but I came here because I want to buy a chair, I don't like those gaming chairs because they don't have mesh back, but I don't like office ones because the padding seat is shit after some times is going to be flat. If I had money I would've buy one like this guy has, that green seat chair, but is 800 bucks, no way I pay so much, I would for a herman miller embody tho
You get what you pay for, there are really good office chairs out there but you'll have to cough up $500 or over for the cream of the crop. Most of the mechanisms you mention are common in most chairs the huge difference is in the quality of parts and build. Cheap chairs will look good and feel ok for a short time. Remember chairs have been around longer than gaming. Their primary function is comfortable sitting regardless of whether you're gaming or working. The office variety have been out there way longer have been researched developed way more than gaming chairs.
Gaming chairs are, mostly, terrible and they're way overpriced. Consumers don't know that because almost all the "reviews" are actually paid endorsements: the person "reviewing" the chair got it for free. And if they want to keep getting free stuff they have to keep giving good "reviews."
I recently had an experience with a 60 pounds chair and in just one week the seat pad went flat. I'm not heavy, 60 kg only. So I recommend you buy something better, I'm going to step up a bit and buy a 90 pound chair if that isn't going to do either Imma buy a 150-200 chair which sure has better materials. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00OKJ2X8Y/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_img?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1GMALZ5APRNIF&coliid=I1Z3VDA8HRAAXT www.amazon.co.uk/Eliza-Tinsley-Executive-Swivel-Armchair/dp/B004OR13NS/ref=sr_1_2?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1496474053&sr=1-2&keywords=mesh+back+chair There are some cheaper ( gaming-racing chair style) but not sure the padding are as good. www.amazon.co.uk/Racing-Gaming-Leather-Adjustable-Amrests/dp/B01HID3OC2/ref=sr_1_7?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1496474178&sr=1-7&keywords=racing+chair Best gaming chair for you is, better go and try it out , find what materials are used and get it home if you can. Best option
I am going to be buying a new chair for both gaming and production work. I do have to take issue with your comments that, "no gaming chairs" are fully adjustable like good office chairs. That is not correct. However given the time this video was created, I'm sure others have also commented. That being said, you bring up very valid points in other areas of chairs and specifically gaming about what you do need in a good chair. I've decided that the best chair for me is not a gaming chair, but a chair from Steelcase. Thank you again for the review
I'm also a lefty with mouse on the right hand. When I started playing in PC I got depressed cuz my aim sucked but kept aiming with my right hand, now I the #57 Reinhardt, #400 Hanzo and #200 Doomfist in the World (Overwatch). I was gonna get a Vertagear PL6000 but I am now getting a Autonomous ErgoChair 2.
2:00 Why not move the chair closer to the desk? If you lean forward and hurt your back and wrist, it's your own fault for having the chair so far back. Expensive gaming chairs have a lot of adjustment options and are still not really that expensive compared to expensive office chairs. Sure, they don't have every little adjustment, but they do have seat tilt adjustment in addition to the default adjustable height and lockable backrest angle. Some of these chairs get very high scores for being really comfortable and ergonomic on almost all review sites that they are on (sometimes bought with own money, so 100% unbiased), so they don't all suck. Maybe some popular brands rely more on hype and brand name than on quality, but others are higher quality for the same price as lower quality popular options. The only real difference with a similar priced office chair are the side panels on the backrest, which are frankly unnecessary and sometimes too close together if you buy a chair that's too small. Also, at least gaming chairs have headrests. :P
I was gaming in an old beat up lounge chair for the last couple of years, and it started to cause pain in my knee, wrist, neck and lower back. I grabbed a Secretlab Omega, and just two days of gaming in it has alleviated so much pressure and has not only improved my comfort while gaming, but out of the chair I am much less sore. The adjustments you can make to support your wrists as well as being able to lock the tilt to where you're taking pressure off of your legs (which your "ready stance" would kill my legs, lower back and neck just from observing it) has been a godsend. Maybe don't buy a cheap gaming chair?
The thing is, most good quality, top dollar gaming/racing chairs have all those features that your red office chair does. Look up the DXRacing brand chairs. They're usually about $250 - $350. They also have arm rests, unlike your chair and seat/shoulder bolsters to hold you in place, like an actual aftermarket car racing chair. They also have optional head and lumbar support pads that you can put on or remove at your leisure.
Get a desk big enough that you can put your mouse and keyboard so far back that you rest almost your entire forearms on the desk (Ergotron monitor arms are great because you can put your keyboard/mouse underneath the monitor, where its own stand would usually be, while the screen remains close). Get a chair without arm-rests (or at least ones that can be lowered far enough) so it can fit close-in to the desk, and you can recline fully with your arms supported by the desk (a foot-stool helps too). Go for a head-rest and lumbar support (I use a Topstar Open Art). Get a wrist support in front of your keyboard, so that the back of your palm is in-line with your forearm, and the tendons running through your wrist are straight. Get a mouse with a long enough, and not excessively curved body, so that your hand isn't inclined to cup around it for the same reason. Let your hands hang down completely relaxed. That is the ideal wrist and finger curvature you should have when they are on your keyboard/mouse, because that way none of your muscles are tensed, and none of your joints are flexed, until you actually press a button. - PC gamer for 26 years, putting in hours only possible to a no-lifer.
I don't know, most office chairs seem to focus on 'ergonomics' 90* straight up angles. While research performed in the last few years has shown that this angle puts the most stress on the spine. Whilst 135 degrees seems to be the sweet spot. This angle is not normally possible on most office chairs. Obviously it might be harder to use the mouse and keyboard at this angle, but your spine is more important!
The best way to sit at that angle is with an Emperor 1500 :) www.mwelab.com/en/ If these were about 3k instead of 6k I would definitely use this over my current setup. I have a custom made sit/stand with a HM Embody chair (about 2k invested on that). I sit at my PC around 18 hours a day.
how did so many people dislike this?, I've owned a lot of chairs and I have back problems . this guy brings up so many points that are straight fact . I've owned a 400$ chair that had no real movement options like his first one and honestly the best chair I've owned is the cheaper one that allows you different movements like lean the back forward by itself and position the seat either forward or back . Listen to this guy or end up with back problems because you want a cool looking chair.... lol
Gaming chairs often dont hav a lumbar support, armrests are too far from you, lower seat is lifted so it puts pressure on your leggs for no reason, it has the idiotic design on sides which helps drivers stay in seat while people that play games cant relax in it. Overall, worst 300 euros i have ever spent. Oh and also, the back part of the seat where you lean on is soft, so it gives 0 support unless you lean all the way back and its hard to play games like that. Just a well made marketing trick
This video is exactly what i am going through, as a 3d artist i do a lot of drawing on an intuos tablet and most of these crappy gaming chairs have the seat rotated backwards and since i lean forward to draw it hurts my back after an hour. I only found a few chairs that have forward tilt in the seat, the first is a kneeling chair ( heard it's nice in the beginning but hard if you going to sit many hours in it), the second is an Alera Elusion Multifunction chair. The chair you are showing in this video costs double than the Alera so i wonder if it's worth it.
illuminated temple well I'm a little late... i today bought a D-Line 400 which is similar to Erwin Xracer's.... mine isn't leather or vinyl, but polyester cloth material... sooo comfy. If you ever sat in a Ford Focus ST, or Fiesta ST that is what my chair is just not leather/vinyl. It also conforms to my body cause it has form molding material as well 😊 249€ best damn chair I've had my ass in I tell ya what!!! :)
I beg to differ, I bought today a D-Line 400 duo collection which is similar to Erwin. Feels like my seat in my car just not as squishy. It has a locking mechanism on the bottom and the side, which I adjust the back and then locks in place. A pillow in the back part and pillow in the head rest. I can raise and lower the arm rests as well, the whole chair conforms to my body 😀 best chair I've ever sat in for gaming/sitting. 249€
Best gaming chairs have built-in lumbar support they don't need a pillow. Which frankly just pushes you out of the seat. You want something that is going to have good spine, neck, and back support. Can recline as personally I find that useful. Being as I'm both a console and a PC gamer. There are office chairs that rank pretty high. But unless you want to spend over $1,000 or more. Which frankly I've used some of them and they're not all that comfortable. So I'm not really going to dive into that whole debate. Overall this wasn't very inclusive.
3:27 That's the worst position for gaming or no.. for everything! Because you lean over to much with your neck/head into to monitor with this posture and if you hold this position for a long time you'll get.. I don't know how to call it right but something like a "bent forward neck" you can imagine it like a person stands with a straight body posture (viewed from the side), just a completely straight back posture but the neck is not 100% straight up and in line, rather bent forward with the whole head and that cause a crooked back! The Gaming chairs like "Noblechair Gaming" has all of your mentioned adjustments and much more to support your back/the correct posture in longer gaming sessions. If you use also something like a "foot pedal" under your table with an angle where you can put/press your feets against/on it, it'll also support yourself, to avoid sliding down and lose the straight 90° sit posture AND.. here comes the head pillows from all of the gaming chairs on head heigh.. they supports you as well to hold the overall straight 90° posture, because you can "lean back" with your head without any effort but still your head/neck is on a straight and same line as your back and that supports and help you to hold the correct straight sit posture without slipping down into a crooked sit posture.
People seem to forget that real racing seats are fixed in one position, as opposed to gaming chairs. If you go up the level of racing seats, Formula 1 racing seats are molded to fit the driver that will be driving and fixed as well.
Vertagear triigger is one of the few exceptions. Although I bought myself a gaming chair, I looked for something different, more cushioned and one that does not look like a racing chair.
great honest review, most gamers people just go out and blindly buy the most expensive gaming chair in the store without even sitting on the thing or testing if it is tailored to suit their particular posture and body shape. Everyone is unique thats why the best mattresses custom tailored to the owner/buyer the gaming chair needs to be the same. It doesn't have to be the most well known brand it just has to be suited to you. What one person finds comfortable the next person will find themselves aching within 20 minutes. Comfort is objective. Thats why there is no definitive answer to what the best gaming chair is, its all about personal choice and personal comfort level.
If you spend a lot of time at the computer it is so worthwhile getting an ergonomic chair. I fall asleep in mine after work nearly everyday. I reckon that says a lot. Ergohuman V1 chair is so good. No.1 tip is make sure you get a chair with an adjustable headrest and adjustable arm rests and adjustable back lumber support. Oh and tilt that can lock in place or move back and forth as you move. That part is the bit that sends you to sleep when leaning back. Chillax
I am sitting on such a chair as i write this, though the locking mechanism is broken on it so it moves when i move.. Also, it squeeks while it does that which is annoying AF. Must be said though that this chair is 20 years old and the the rest of my chairs all broke within 1-3 years..
if it's ergonomics it's just finding a chair that's comfy without making you crouch when locked somewhere at 12-18degree tilt. Now problem is there are a few thousands of them that doesn't exists in any store in any mall in my country not counting online stores. So I can't really test them without buying one first to see if they fit me. Additionally hard to determine from poorly taken pictures and details that are more often lacking than not. And then it's the price... right now I'm wondering about opening a new bank account to found a herman miller embody.
i got a dxracer chair as a present i used to use a pretty cheap ikea chair here i am 2 years later giving people who visit me the gaming one i can confirm that most gaming chairs that ive tried seem comfortable at first but become reall impractical after using them for a while
Actually, you should be able to comfortably play at 120º~135º the whole time, especially because you'll be placing your arms onto the arm support. But I agree "gaming seats" are marketing, for they won't accomodate your back as they should, even the expensive ones with tons of adjustments.
Thank you for the link. This information has been out there for a long time. The problem is that when you sit with a trunk thigh angle of 130 degrees you slide out of the chair or you have to reach for the keyboard and mouse. That is why I like chairs with a forward seat tilt. you can maintain that angle while decreasing reaching movements.
You'd have an aneurysm if you saw how I sit and what I sit in... My "office chair" is a La-Z-Boy and I usually sit in it with my legs up and crossed (Indian style) :D
I like something that is fully adjustable. AN Office Master chair is a good value and fully functional. The "gaming" chairs look nice but do't offer a lot of support for the user.
Nick Ireland Nick, Look for a chair that you can adjust. A good task chair would work for both. Consider and Office Masyer PY74 or Pt 78, Neutral posture NPS 5500 or 8500.
I use a gaming chair and for my particular case its more ergonomic than any other solutions. I am ADHD and i tend to never sit straight. Always moving in odd positions and it hurt my back a lot. The only chair that i found on the market that push me to sit straight is a racing seat. I know that its not perfect and this is why i am trying to move all my computer controls on my armrest (on in near reach) to make sure that i can operate everything without putting to much pressure on my back (like a super vilain chair :D). It may not be ideal but to me its the best solution for now
Hmmm. Valid points for pc gamers but as a console gamer I never really have to lean forward like that, in fact I’d like to be able to lean back more while playing.
I Own a DX Racer Chair, that chair you're using is missing arm rests. My DX Racer chair is already built in a forward tilt automatically... i sometimes have to set it back couple notches to feel like I'm not falling off... so i disagree somewhat with your review but what your saying about positioning for comfort is important non the less.
btw no gamers sit like that its not early 2000, we are in 2017 now, people dont sit like that, becouse they get a gaming chair and sit properly, people used to sit like that for 10-15 years ago when there was no gaming chairs that was made like a car seat
Why do the design of these chairs always put the seat of the chair on one pivot point? It's like a plate balancing on a chop-stick. Couldn't one have four columns that connected seat to wheels? One at each corner?
Well, you do realise that most gaming chairs have the same functions as that red one. They also lock the back and go and down so you can be fit to your desk. Moreover, there are plenty that aside from that rocking chair motion, also keep the lock the seat and you can adjust only the back... I think this video is not completely accurate
Those are high end gaming chairs, that most kids can't afford to get, unless their parents are loaded or they've been spoiled rotten. Even those chairs have several problems, they're a waste of money.
The chair has to work with your position . The more flexible a chair can be able to adjust to your body, the more comfortable itll be. So its like buying clothes, if you real need to buy a gaming chair buy one that not only fits you perfectly but can also get accustomed to your posture and position.
This video was amazingly helpful! I have been researching computer chairs for the past two weeks, trying to find one that would work for me. I was going to go for a dxracer, which would have been an expensive purchase. Now I am glad I didn't because based on your evaluation I am going to be going with the Office Master PT78. Thank you for the great information
People sleep for 8 hours a day and are willing to spend thousands on a mattress, I can sometimes sit for 14 hours a day as a 911 operator and I definitely think a chair costing 8-1000$ is worth it.
As a grown man im hardly impressed with a pastel colored chair with the word "gaming" tattooed all over it, I value comfort. My question would be, "executive chair" vs "office chair"
Unfortunately everything this man says is true. I have a 20$ office chair (very plain - no recliner, no armrests) and a dxracer 7 chair. Even with all the neck and waist pads, it kinda ruined my sitting posture (I seldomly use the reclining function). Also - the gaming chair is massive as hell, it leaves no room for movement. Now I'm back to my 20$ chair and everything is fine again.
I just bought a srd sr3 recaro than just screwed it on the base of a office chair. Most comfortable chair ever. Sure, it cost me $1,400, but at least it's a chair I actually feel comfortable in. lol.
It looks like you got a $50 Korean chair from your local grocery shop, and it had gaming written on it. Of course is sucks. Not saying that gaming chairs aren't overpriced and overhyped, but the one you have doesn't even look comfortable. I can't speak from experience cause I don't have one of those fancy "gaming" chairs, but I tried a nice tall DXRacer chair with those cushions in a shop recently, and it was comfortable and really made me want to sit upright. That was only a few minutes so again, I can't really argue for those kind of chairs.
So the the missing component is a forward tilt? Any chair that is high back and forward tilt option and not $700? If not, need to get that on shark tank man.
Had an AK racing chair for 2 years. Both handles are getting really worn and torn. I expected it to last longer tbh. Like I still use it but the handles are bothering me. Anyone with the same problem?
Hi Steve, If you can review "gaming chairs" that meet bio-mechanical and ergonomical standards or other office chairs you would recommend, that would be great, thank you.
Thanks! Here is a video I made on the biomechanics of sitting. ruclips.net/video/mj6ToWhZfjI/видео.html I'll work on a more gaming specific one for you.
Crazy how this video came out in 2016, and everything he said was true. Maybe RUclips removing the like/dislike counter just so happens to not be such a bad thing after all 😁
Gaming chairs are a matter of opinion. In my opinion, they look dumb, are not comfortable (I have tried dozens of different designs, so trust me when I say I am experienced) and are more costly than necessary. A standard office chair with adjustment for seat height, armrest height, readrest height and tilt resistance will do nicely.
you make good points, but you don't game lol. gaming doesn't really change how you use the chair, you're still using a mouse and keyboard.... but chairs that tilt back like this one are preferred, where the seat also locks in with the back as you lean back and not kept horizontal.
Agreed gaming chairs are over priced and generally not fit for purpose. I do my gaming in a Steelcase Leap V1 chair, it's the best chair I've ever owned.
Hello Steve. Thanks for the video, it pointed out a couple of things I hadn't thought of. I have a question though, what about armrests? Surely they are important, in terms of aligning with table / height etc. So you don't screw up your shoulders.
Andy, Arm rests mostly get in the way. I usually advise people to lower them so they can get close to the keyboard. Unless you are doing a lot of reaching you really don't need them.
Have you looked at the gt omega? It seems to have the features you're talking about, plus head-support with a head-cushion. Head support is non-negotiable for me.
No I haven't seen the gt Omega chair except online. It seems to have the same adjustments as the DX Racer. My problem with both is that you cannot adjust the back rest to fit into your low back. Also the seat pan throws you back rather than holding you upright or slightly forward. A fully adjustable task chair may be a better choice although it doesn't look as cool.
You should try move your monitor higher so the top of your screen is eye level and i dont think you would have any of these issues Also have you tried an akracing chair they do not have any of these problems you mentioned
hmm dont most chairs have a lock out feature so you can not have them lean back when you lean into them? also my chair can change the tilt of its base so it being tilted back is not the problem
Good question. Not all chairs lock. Many are "dynamic chairs " designed to move rather than provide support. The problem is leaning back. Leaning back can increase reaching needed to use the keyboard and mouse. This can increase stress on the shoulders and low back.
hmm well most top gaming chairs suck would refer to high end chairs. so i would think most top gaming chairs would all include some pretty good features. but chairs that are dynamic with no lock would be very annoying, and i would not be able to stand a chair with out being able to lock the rocking . just being picky off the title here as it seems to be calling out top gaming chairs. but i have never used one of those nock off ebay gaming chairs which may be what your aiming at
i have a chair like the red and thats the reason i switched to the gaming chair, i can tilt and all but its so uncomfy and bad and my back hurted alot with it so yea now i got gaming chair and good damn best chair i have bought
Thats a really cheap Gaming Chair look-alike against a more expensive office chair. If you buy something cheap, don't complain, that its rubbish. I for example bought an office chair for about 450€, its got adjustable lower-back-support, the height is adjustable, also like the seat angle and also the position. The arm-rest is adjustable on the x and y axis as well. In one sentence: I've got a chair, which i can adjust to my body in nearly every way. And that should be your focus, if you buy a new chair.
Actually it's an Office Master OM5 chosen as a top gaming chair by PC Magazine and others. SO you can see why the top gaming chairs suck. They are mostly show and do not support biomechanically sound postures.
After only 2 hours of sitting in a top racing gaming chair my ass was as numb as it was when I used to watch baseball games on a damn wooden bench. They suck. They are damn gimmick and that's what you pay for a look. That's all.
Haa This is exactly what I've been looking for. I've seen all the gaming chairs, which are nice for that role, but this is perfect for a Macbook 12". Thanks
Watching this from my SecretLab Titan 2020 edition in 2021. I completely disagree, most gaming chairs can do almost everything you mentioned here. I can tilt my chair in all directions, with or without base, I can change the armrest height, width and orientation in 4 directions, I have a lumbar support adjustment and the chair basically cured most of my back pain by itself.
Secret labs are junk. Try a Herman Miller or Steelcase and see for yourself. Secret labs is the same rebranded chinese junk with a fancy logo as most gaming chairs are.
@@sethberry2162 totally disagree, it's a great chair, miles above the cheap chinese junk. Every single person who sat in my chair never wanted to stand back up.
@@silviupanait8861 It IS cheap Chinese junk, that's what you don't understand. Companies like Secret Lab buy mass produced low quality chairs at dirt cheap prices and throw their logo on it and charge people $450 for a low quality chair with a logo. Noblechairs is the same story, their "hero" model is the exact same as a Secret lab Titan, which came out of some crap factory in China with no quality. Look it up on their website, it is the EXACT same chair. Gaming chairs are a complete joke.
So your gaming chair comes with some additional adjustments, still doesn't make it better than a high-end office chair. As I've said before gaming chairs are shit, the more expensive ones are less bad, but still shit.
It seems I found the solution to my back problems during sitting. But can't find this model in my country. Maybe it has a different name in Brasil? Do you have the manufacture name or the name of this type of chair? Thanks! "Office Master PT78"
Yeah when he was going through all the things that were important i was thinking how even $25 chairs from walmart have those functions already. Also he made the first chair seem much worse by sitting way too far from the desk at too low of a elevation.
i have a GTOmegaracing chair and i do not recommend buying one, they are so damn uncomfortable and stiff, no one likes sitting in a car seat for more than around 3 or so hours, you wanna know why? Because they're stiff and make your ass ache after that amount of time, it's the same thing, the chair is stiff as fuck, you can't break into it and its gonna fuck up your back no matter what sitting position you're in.
That's why you buy a dxracer... You get what you pay for. The cushions are so soft (on your butt) except for one or two series... They really are far superior to gtomegas in all ways.
i have the gt omega master xl and its one of the most comfortable seats i have ever sat on, i can easily sit on it for 8+ hours and it also got rid of my back pain
The fact that I get 5000 dollar ergonomic chairs that hurt my back at work… and my 500 dollar gaming chair is nothing but comfortable for me… yeah I don’t believe a word you say haha!
I'd trust the word of an ergonomics expert over an anecdote any day. Also, what office chair could you have possibly sat on that costs $5,000? For that price you could pick up multiple Herman Miller and Steelcase chairs.
great video. helped me fine tune my chair and make it very comfortable. I noticed my accuracy in FPS after a week stayed more consistent after 2 or 3 hours and my rank went up in multiple games. amzn has some great chairs that are half the cost of the gamer chairs and will last longer. also note if your chair is old the gas cylinder can be replaced pretty easy, as well as, the wheels. they sell wheels for hardwood, tile, etc. I got wheels for mine that look like roller blade wheels, they rock.
I have bought DXRacer Zero for 400$ and I agree that it sucks.
Next time I will buy ONLY some office chair or specific orthopedic ergonomic chair.
Why does this have so many dislikes? This video brings up so many good points
wut
Not really.
He gets a cheap shitty gaming chair and says its shit it's a different story with a dxracer chair...
@Witapro,
Yeah!
I still have Noblechairs and used it for watching movies and music listening
Gaming are great as 1st when I try to relax lean all your body weight on the back and lower the back support angle.
But then times that it needs 100% attention and concentration over long period I have no choice but to lean forward that adds lots of weight on the back(even worst if slouching forward) due the design of gaming chair
Gaming chairs are fine if you are kind that of person love to lean back a lot, But I have a habit of having upright posture when doing tasks surfing, gaming, working, video conference...
All the salty people in the comments with $600 racing chairs realising they f*cked up.
Thanks for the information
There aren't much Gaming/Racing chairs of that price. TBH I'm really content with my purchase, I bought the Secretlab Omega which I am really enjoying, plus the Omega costs about 1/3 of the price of a Herman Miller.
Swooty herman miller is really good though
nope far off im just really happy i bought a gaming chair, becouse the gaming chair in the video looks like a trash office chair to me, i spend over 300 for my gaming chair and its super good, yea iv i had over 1000 to throw out i would buy a herman miller but idont
@@swooty2805 Good for you, but don't chat shit about HM chairs, just because you can't afford them. Instead of wasting money on a SecretCrap chair, I'd have got a refurbished HM chair.

I’m totally sold! Thanks a lot Steve, you’ve just saved a man from getting ripped off haha
As with any chair, there's good design gaming chairs and some bad, some area really good for your back and cool to, so pick carefully.
Yea those problems he talk about is the low tire gaming chairs, the top tires that the video is about have the supports he say they dont
😂 I assume you have no gaming chair nor haven’t experienced with yet.
Juan Yang dxracer is really good bro don’t trash talk
And if they want to keep getting free stuff they have to keep giving good "reviews."
That said most office chairs are terrible as well.
Again on eBay.
lol just $518... Nice one mate.... Not only that, but that chair is fucking ugly as hell
That's like saying, "I won't buy a Ferrari because I can't haul a sofa in it." That's not what it's made for.
I've got an ergonomic gaming mouse and it's amazing.
The quality of adjustments found on gaming chairs are terrible.
A lot of haters on here that bought "gaming chairs" LOL!!!

Thank you for validating the chair I have at work. : ) I love being able to adjust the seat pan.
Hear this man out. Ergonomics is the reason why i as a lefty can pwn 99% of all gamers with my right hand.
Herr Bert I’m a lefty that right hands mouse too. I wouldn’t say I’m in the 99th percentile tho
Thanks for the comment. Most gaming chairs only have height, and recline features.
+Steve Meagher If they have that tensioner knob on bottom, they also can rock like a rocking chair.

The best way to sit at that angle is with an Emperor 1500 :)

If these were about 3k instead of 6k I would definitely use this over my current setup.
The chair you are showing in this video costs double than the Alera so i wonder if it's worth it.
my Gaming chair is designed to support my back in any position, before i had alot of back problems but now my back is pefectly fine!

illuminated temple well I'm a little late... i today bought a D-Line 400 which is similar to Erwin Xracer's.... mine isn't leather or vinyl, but polyester cloth material... sooo comfy.
If you ever sat in a Ford Focus ST, or Fiesta ST that is what my chair is just not leather/vinyl. It also conforms to my body cause it has form molding material as well 😊 249€ best damn chair I've had my ass in I tell ya what!!! :)
Hey Filip, what kind of a backpain did you have? neck, middle back or lower back pains?
Who wants to feel like they are constantly falling forward out of their chair?!?
knox "your still getting some support on your back" haahhaaha
knox Yea my Corsair t1 is very comfortable and supportive and has all the adjustments. Sounds like this guy is just pushing products.
the video is true, gaming chairs are a joke compared to Steelcase or Herman Miller chairs
Yeah, and those chairs also cost a shit load.
What brand is that red chair? Looks comfy. Thanks!
Scott Campbell thanks for watching! It’s an office master pt78. Relatively inexpensive too
People seem to forget that real racing seats are fixed in one position, as opposed to gaming chairs. If you go up the level of racing seats, Formula 1 racing seats are molded to fit the driver that will be driving and fixed as well.
You can lock the chair (I mean back support), of course :) Like other office chairs.
My gaming chair is so uncomfortable. A regular office chair for half the price is way better. This is the last time I'm buying such junk.
And then it's the price... right now I'm wondering about opening a new bank account to found a herman miller embody.
i got a dxracer chair as a present i used to use a pretty cheap ikea chair
here i am 2 years later giving people who visit me the gaming one
i can confirm that most gaming chairs that ive tried seem comfortable at first but become reall impractical after using them for a while
Actually, you should be able to comfortably play at 120º~135º the whole time, especially because you'll be placing your arms onto the arm support.
Never had this problem. Probably because my ergonomic table, that lets me set the height of the desk, so my hands are fully on my desk.
You'd have an aneurysm if you saw how I sit and what I sit in... My "office chair" is a La-Z-Boy and I usually sit in it with my legs up and crossed (Indian style) :D
Hey I'd love to see it! Send me a picture of you at your gaming station and I'll let you know what I think. Send it to sitesolutions@hotmai.com
sitesolutions@hotmail.com
Thanks for you video explaining all this. Of the gaming chairs which one would you recommend. Also of non "gaming" chairs what would you recommend.
I like something that is fully adjustable. AN Office Master chair is a good value and fully functional. The "gaming" chairs look nice but do't offer a lot of support for the user.
Thanks man! Keep up the great content
the noble chairs are full adjustable
Nick Ireland Nick,
Look for a chair that you can adjust. A good task chair would work for both. Consider and Office Masyer PY74 or Pt 78, Neutral posture NPS 5500 or 8500.
i have the noblechairs and i like it so far
Just got a Thermaltake TTeSports XComfort gaming chair and its unreal, highly recommend it :D
Whether people want to admit it or not, this man knows what he's talking about.
Thanks for your comment!
so what should i get in the $200 to 370 dollar range for comfortable durable long sitting at a PC?
btw no gamers sit like that its not early 2000, we are in 2017 now, people dont sit like that, becouse they get a gaming chair and sit properly, people used to sit like that for 10-15 years ago when there was no gaming chairs that was made like a car seat
The brand and model is- Office Master PT-78.
You had me up to the point where you said you use hotmail.
People can use any mail they want, and it doesn't change what kind of person they are.
Grow up
trashed my gaming chair got a regular office chair for its been 1000 times better
its seems like your sitting way to high, especially considering the height of your desk and monitor
Thanks for making these videos. I realized what sorts of chairs I need for both gaming and digital drawing
This man speaks the truth, it also causes the dreaded forward head position which is attributed to a whole host of nasty ailments.
Great
I'm glad it helped!
let me know when you get it an I'll walk you through how to set it up
Im glad it helped. Let me know when you get it and I can help you set it up.
Thank you! That sounds great.
If you want to send me a picture of you working in your workstation I can give you some advice on your general set up.
@@TheErgonomicsGuy you're wrong some gaming chairs are good
People sleep for 8 hours a day and are willing to spend thousands on a mattress, I can sometimes sit for 14 hours a day as a 911 operator and I definitely think a chair costing 8-1000$ is worth it.
Surely gaming chairs can lock ?
I bought a $250 Thermal take gaming chair and its perfect. NO MORE PAIN and its quite comfortable.you don't need anything better than this.
Lmao, you have no idea what you're missing out on.
Now I'm back to my 20$ chair and everything is fine again.
get the secret lab titan, its all that and then some
Yea indeed for a better price, i wouldnt mind a Herman Miller but they are to pricey for the time being
thats why i have a adjustable desk it gets low enough to where im not putting pressure on my palm when using my mouse
Thanks for your video..are there any specific models of chairs you recommend that actually tilt forward? Thank you
Your website (link in your description) takes me to a Dental Clinic website.
let me check it out thanks!
It's supposed to redirect. Looks like i need to gall my web host . Thanks! You can visit www.siteergonomics.com/
I have a gaming chair and it's NOT good for your posture. It looks awesome though... Well...
Thanks for this video I was gonna look into getting these fancy gaming chairs but it seems there not really that good.
Wow... The PT78 is a $400 chair. Wasn’t expecting that.
Hi Steve,
If you can review "gaming chairs" that meet bio-mechanical and ergonomical standards or other office chairs you would recommend, that would be great, thank you.
Thanks! Here is a video I made on the biomechanics of sitting. ruclips.net/video/mj6ToWhZfjI/видео.html I'll work on a more gaming specific one for you.
Ravi Peiris pleas do! great video! I'll be waiting for the next!
This chair makes the tilt capabilities on a monitor more useful.
you make good points, but you don't game lol. gaming doesn't really change how you use the chair, you're still using a mouse and keyboard.... but chairs that tilt back like this one are preferred, where the seat also locks in with the back as you lean back and not kept horizontal.
Arm rest mostly get in the way. THey are good if you are doing a lot of reaching and need support but otherwise are just decoration
Andy,
Arm rests mostly get in the way.
I contemplated on a gaming chair, but i decided to get an office chair instead because it has more flexibility
You should try move your monitor higher so the top of your screen is eye level and i dont think you would have any of these issues
Also have you tried an akracing chair they do not have any of these problems you mentioned
True and they arent nearly as good as the secret labs
hmm dont most chairs have a lock out feature so you can not have them lean back when you lean into them? also my chair can change the tilt of its base so it being tilted back is not the problem
Get a Aeron chair, Embody, or Steelcase. Nuff said.
@@silviupanait8861 Secretlab has factories in China lol, they're the ones making cheap rubbish.
It seems I found the solution to my back problems during sitting. But can't find this model in my country. Maybe it has a different name in Brasil? Do you have the manufacture name or the name of this type of chair? Thanks! "Office Master PT78"
all gaming chairs are different, look at the GT omega its got everything he's looking for and more.
Purple Eggs dxracers or not that good mate pretty shit tonne honest
Hmmm are dxRacers the same>? because It's hard to fidn any popular brand in my country. theonly good one is dxracer! There's no ikea or anything :((
This would be great if he used an actual gaming chair as a comparison lol
The fact that I get 5000 dollar ergonomic chairs that hurt my back at work… and my 500 dollar gaming chair is nothing but comfortable for me… yeah I don’t believe a word you say haha!
I'd trust the word of an ergonomics expert over an anecdote any day.
Also, what office chair could you have possibly sat on that costs $5,000?
For that price you could pick up multiple Herman Miller and Steelcase chairs.
Thank you so much Steve! I will get a better Chair/ get an ergonomic chair. Didn't know all these disadvantages from gaming chairs.
the wings so called on a gaming chair at top of the back on the chair is so u dont lean to a side and hurt ur back
I guess that's right but there are many better from Nobel chairs or DxRacer
great video. helped me fine tune my chair and make it very comfortable.
Lol how much did he pay you?
