  • In this video I explain how to customize your Shimano Di2 electronic drivetrain using Shimano’s Android or iOS E-Tube Project Cyclist smartphone app. While this tutorial uses the iPhone version of the app, the Android version works the same way. I am demonstrating the app using the Dura Ace Di2 9170 disc groupset, but the app is used the same way across all of the Shimano Di2 groupsets for road, mountain and gravel.

    Having trouble with front derailleur, and shfter. Won’t shift on Manuel. Front derailleur will only shift when rear is shifting on synchro. Bad left shifter or bad front derailleur? Shifter doesn’t seem to be communicating with front derailleur’s. Changed rear derailleur to Manuel front shifter still won’t shift the front derailleur

    • @bikesbymike
      @bikesbymike  Год назад +2

      Hard to say as it could be several things. First thing is that for all Di2 models except 12-speed, you have to have the Shimano D-Fly Wireless unit attached to your bike. This unit allows the Di2 to pair with the app. If you have that already, you should have all the hardware you need. Make sure you have the latest firmware installed and also make sure your Di2 is in pairing mode as I show in my video. Those are the big ones I can think of.

    Hi Mike, thanks for the vid. I’ve got 9150 , when I micro adjust my rear derailleur using etube, I can’t shift using the shifters to see if I made a good adjustment. I then have have to leave the app first. That’s not handy. Am I doing something wrong or is it the app? Thanks!

    • @bikesbymike
      @bikesbymike  6 месяцев назад +2

      No. You aren’t doing anything wrong. You’re exactly right. When you are in the eTube app and setting up the micro-adjustments, you cannot shift gears at the same time. You need to exit the app for that and get out of pairing mode.
      For micro-adjustments, you may find it just as easy to set it up NOT using the app, but just using the junction box settings on your bike. I’ve always found that if I follow Shimano’s instructions on how to properly set the rear derailleur step adjustments, it works without any further tweaking. That process is basically as follows:
      - Shift rear derailleur to 5th largest sprocket.
      - Shift front derailleur to small chainring.
      - Press button on Junction box until LED illuminates.
      - Turn the cranks and then press your shifter button until you hear it rubbing against the 4th largest rear cog.
      - When you hear the slight chain rub, press the other shifter button 4 times to move derailleur in the opposite direction back towards the 5th largest cog. This should centre the pulley wheels under the cog perfectly.
      - Press junction button until red LED turns off.
      - Shifting should now be set properly.
      If that isn’t making for clean shifts, I would think there is something else up. Like maybe a bent derailleur hanger.
      Sorry if this isn’t all that helpful, or if I gave you way more info than what you wanted :)

      GPLama covers the shifter firmware update issue here: ruclips.net/video/7k8IVKGBUds/видео.htmlsi=evqF9MQ8uck2CYfm. He does mention that a wired connection is required for Dura Ace and Ultegra, but I just tried my 12-speed Dura Ace Di2 and I believe it allowed me to update all firmware updates wirelessly. It's not showing that a firmware update is needed for the shifters anymore, so I assume it did it ;) As for the gear maintenance log, if you are referring to the "Gear usage rate" which shows the % of shifts on each rear cog, then no, mine is not working. It's just showing 0% for each cog.

      Yes. The options available for the X, Y & A shifter buttons on each shifter (or just X & Y in the case of 105 Di2) are the same. So you could assign the “Function” option to either the X or Y lever shifter on the 105 to control the Synchro mode on-the-fly.

    • @bikesbymike
      @bikesbymike  10 месяцев назад +1

      Just two things come to mind. First, make sure your Di2 system has the hardware necessary for Bluetooth capability. If you have the new 12-speed Di2, the Bluetooth module is already built into the rear derailleur so you don’t need anything extra. With the 11-speed version like what is shown in my video, you need to purchase and connect the Shimano Wireless Module - EW-WU111/EW-WU101. Second, it’s possible the firmware isn’t up-to-date and causing connectivity issues. If you can’t get the wireless connection to work, an alternative is to use a hardwire connection between your laptop/desktop and your Di2 as described here… ruclips.net/video/Ip1EiTNg2So/видео.html Shimano offers a Windows desktop app that works quite well if you have a PC and the Shimano connection cable. Here is the link to the Windows download… bike.shimano.com/en-US/e-tube/project.html You will then be able to check that your firmware is up-to-date and also do all the things you can do with the E-Tube smartphone app. Hope this helps.

    what does "Register bike or power meter" mean? I press on that and it just sits there forever. I have the bike on and ready to go.

    • @bikesbymike
      @bikesbymike  10 месяцев назад +1

      I’m not certain what’s happening at your end, but here are a few things to try. If you haven’t used the app with your Di2 before, you will need to “register bike or power meter” just for the first time. This allows the app to set up a profile for your Di2, and more importantly, to search for your Di2 components. If it’s searching and stalling like you say, it’s usually one of four issues. 1) Your Di2 isn’t in Bluetooth connection mode. For the new 12-speed version, this is activated by pushing and holding the button next to the rear derailleur for 0.5 to 2 seconds to make LED flash blue. 2) Bluetooth connectivity isn’t activated on your smartphone. 3) E-Tube is looking for the PassKey, but you should get prompted if it needs it. The default is 000000. 4) The latest firmware update hasn’t been downloaded to the app. The app will prompt you as soon as you open it to download the new firmware if one is available. Always run the latest firmware if prompted. If none of these four fixes work, I’m not sure what the issue is.

      @bikesbymike  3 месяца назад

      You can set up your Synchro settings through the eTube app, but you can only change the mode you are in on the bike. A quick double-press on the rear derailleur (for 12-speed) or the junction box (for 11-speed) will switch your shifting mode to the next mode. There are three modes in total stored on your Di1. Manual, Shift Mode 1 and Shift Mode 2. Every double-click sends you to the next mode. For 11-speed, solid red/green is Manual. Double blinking red/green is Shift Mode 1. Triple blinking red/green is Shift Mode 2. For 12-speed, solid blue is Manual mode. Double flashing blue is Shift Mode 1. Triple flashing blue is Shift Mode 2.

      All versions of Di2, not just the new 12-speed, but there are some limitations for the oldest versions of 11-speed Di2 which have the ANT+ ONLY (not Bluetooth) battery. You also need to have the D-Fly Inline Wireless Unit for any version other than the newest 12-speed. Best to check the following compatibility chart which clearly shows which Di2 components work with the E-Tube app and what limitations (if any) there are. chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/bike.shimano.com/content/dam/e-tube/assets/images/contents/project/compatibillity/pdf/en/HM-CC%205.2.0-00-EN.pdf

      Yes. You can definitely change the gearing selection within the E-Tube app. Here’s how you do it:
      - Open the E-Tube app on your smartphone.
      - Place the Di2 in pairing mode by holding the Di2 Function Button on the rear derailleur for between 0.5 and 2 seconds. It will display “Connecting” on the app screen.
      - Once connected, you will see all your various components listed on the main screen. At the top will be your shift settings with one of them displaying your current gearing. Select this option.
      - You should now see a screen that displays your front chainring options and rear cassette options with your current selections highlighted with blue dots. Choose the proper front chainring and rear gearing that corresponds to your bike. For you, that’s selecting an 11-36 rear cassette. Hit “Update”.
      - Choose “Disconnect” to stop Di2 pairing and save your new selections.
      - Your Di2 should now recognize your 11-36 rear cassette.
