I greatly appreciate the clarity, thoroughness, and succinctness with which you explain these systems. After asking, reading, and watching far too many sources, I've gotten no clearer and more complete directions than what you do here. Finally, I know what I'm doing.
Finally I found how that handle bar battery works. Everyone on RUclips is only explaining how to charge the shift main battery. Thanks I have now clear idea about di2 and maybe I will upgrade my mechanic shift.
I’ve just ordered a new ORRO with 105 Di2. (New bike day soon!! Been such a long time in coming. Slightly excited😮😜😆😎) This video was very very helpful thanks. 😎👍🏻
recently, i had left (didn't disconnect) my 2024 12 speed 105 di2 system connected with the garmin edge 830 and this resulted in draining the battery of 2024 12 speed 105 di2 system fully. This also drained the battery of the left lever. Have you experienced this type of phenomenon ? please advise... thanks!
I’ve never experienced that specific issue myself, but something kinda similar. From how you describe it, it seems like having your Garmin on kept the Di2 system in awake mode. But since the Di2 was not having to shift, the drain on the battery would be minimal. That said, having used four different Di2 systems over 10+ years, I’ve had my Di2 batteries drain completely, very quickly, on five or six occasions. Three times it was when I was transporting my bike on my roof rack. The other times was when using it on extremely hot days. With the bike on the roof, I suspect the bike was shifting around enough to wake up the system and drain the battery. But since a Di2 battery typically lasts for dozens of hours worth of rides (as do coin batteries), I think something else was going on. Like a glitch causing a continuous attempt to shift. Just having the Di2 system in awake mode and pairing Bluetooth connections doesn’t seem enough to cause a quick drain. This is just my guess.
thanks Mike, one thing, I found common that I also transported the bike from orillia to Mississauga after finishing a ride of 65Km before the Di2 battery got completely flat or drained! I will continue to investigate this issue!
Mike: I can't find that Garmin data field, the one with the 3 battery icons. I see the one named "Di2 Battery," but that is just a numerical value. (Using the Edge 1030 Plus.) Do you know how I can find this?
You got me. Provided you're running any of the past few Garmin firmware updates, both the "Di2 Battery Level" and "Gear Battery" data fields in the "Gear" sub-menu option now display battery icons showing the remaining battery life for the main Di2 battery as well as the left and right shifters. I'm pretty sure the % remaining numerical value data field was drop a couple years back. Maybe there is a glitch with your firmware updates. Maybe contact Shimano and see what they say. Good luck and thanks for watching!
I’m not certain, but I believe that the shifter LEDs are de-activated when in Bluetooth pairing mode (i.e. while running the eTube app). If your eTube app is showing a green dot beside each of the two coin batteries representing your left and right shifters, you have between 11% and 100% power and you are good to go. If you shut down the app and disconnect Bluetooth pairing, the LEDs on the shifters should work. But those green LEDs are quite dim, so often I won’t notice them switching on if viewed under bright lights. Get close to them and give them a good look.
2022 QR VP-R. I didn't use the bike all winter as my Venge was on the trainer. Switched out the bike for tri season this past Tuesday. Everything was fine. I put it on the charger and the blue light came on. I left it charging for about 90 minutes. The blue light stayed on. (No green light!). I rode the bike on Thursday and everything was fine. This morning, absolutely nothing. The gears don't move!! I put it on the charger and nothing happens. I tried with a PC and also wall socket. The blue light doesn't light up. WTF??
That is bizarre. I don’t know what is causing the issue, but I’d try the following. I’m grasping at straws, here: 1. Connect to E-Tube App. The battery won’t charge and bike won’t shift when a connection is established to the E-Tube app. In case it thinks it’s still connected, maybe you need to pair with E-Tube and then disconnect the connection to make sure it drops. That would also be a good time to check for firmware updates and also check to make sure all your components are connected and recognized. Of course, if you have no battery life that’ll be an issue. Running the E-Tube Project for Windows software may be the only option. 2. Check Connections. Make sure your wired connection from your Di2 battery to rear derailleur isn’t loose. Even if it isn’t, unplug it and then plug it back in. Maybe that’ll reset things. 3. Defective Battery or charging cable? The Di2 batteries last forever, so I doubt that would be the issue, but you never know. Cables sometimes fail, but rare.
@@bikesbymike hey mike, thanks for getting back to me so fast. The e-tube battery is a real pain in the dick to get to. I'm thinking it's my charging cable but why I don't know because it's barely used! I sent a message to QR and Jack the boss immediately replied that the tech department will get back to me on Monday. I'm going to wait to hear from them but I will keep you posted! Have a great weekend
@@bikesbymike Hi Mike. TJ at Quintana Roo emailed me today and we spoke. He instructed me to disconnect the 3 wires that connect the derailleur to the battery in the seat tube for about 1 minute. I reconnected them and everything is fine! Sort of like rebooting your computer I guess! Big pain in the butt but I'm glad everything's working. I hope this can help you in some way. Thank you for your concern.
Stupid wireless front shifters with cell batteries - draining the main battery (it needs to "listen" to the wireless input all the time) and adds no actual real function OTHER THAN sparing the cables (and saving costs for the bike industry). I wired them and removed the batteries; all splendid - main battery holds even longer than 1500 km and updating firmware of the shifters is also no problem via e-tube app... On top, satellite shifters only work when shifters are wired. Highly recommended.
There is something to be said for the benefits of having wired vs. wireless connections. I do think that Shimano was pushed into this direction by SRAM’s move to wireless everything. Yes, there is a benefit to wireless in terms of ease of installation, but as you mention, there is often a downside to this. Thanks for commenting.
@@bikesbymike you mention to push the 2 shifters on the right side of the bike but I don't see any lights light up any where. Where are they visible? i know about the light on the rear derailleur

Really great video. The dealer never showed me and the instructions included with the bike were not clear, so you video really helped. Thank you!

Yeap - zero help from the dealer, appreciate the help - and a sub as thanks!

Thanks, Mike - AWESOME info!
Thanks!
Very helpful, thank you. LBS did not show me this information, nor that there was an app for Di2 and app for Cannondale SmartSense.

Thanks Mike really helpful. Also where did you buy your t-shirt from?
…I’m not sure. My wife got it in a shop in Porto when she was travelling to Portugal a few years back. Thanks for watching!
Thank you. What about the front derailleur battery level?
…same as the rear derailleur. They run off the same, main Di2 battery.
@@bikesbymike thanks, is that battery stored in the seatpost?
@@kentlewan Correct. The Di2 batter is held inside the seatpost with the cable running inside the frame.

I‘m having no light at all whilst charging but shifters are not working. HELP
Hard to diagnose. Could be the rear derailleur, the Di2 battery or the wire connection between the battery and the RD. Could also be a firmware issue.
