I’m happy to see some gameplay with you showcasing one of the new factions. If you end up recording some Corvid gameplay I’d love to see that. That’s one faction that I still haven’t quite wrapped my head around, strategically.
I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'll absolutely get a gameplay video of Corvids. I have a pretty high standard for what games I decide to post so once I get a great game recorded, I'll post it immediately.
Would have liked to see you dig and double attacked the cats in the bottom right rabbit clearing turn 3 to set them back and get those sweet sweet points
Amazing! ADSET was vitally missing and now setup is such a more fun and hands-on way to begin the game where I feel so much more in control of my destiny. The only complaint I have is that we cannot ban factions from the draft before it starts which means double VB games happen fairly often and I absolutely hate double VB. It makes the draft more cursed and if the player chooses a VB, it's even worse. I really hope we someday get the ability to ban factions in ADSET just like standard.
I agree! Huh, didnt actually know you could ban factions in standard ADSET, good to know! Im really interested to know if you think the more competitive scene and tournaments - like the Winter Tournament, will switch to the Digital version instead if Board Game Simulator? After all the factions are released ofc.
@@A_Beech_Boi Well, what I meant was that digital lets you ban factions in standard setup so if I want to play VB, I can do that and an the other VB to guarantee I'll be the only one. Or I can set it to all random but if I want to try a weird game without cats, I can ban cats while still having everyone being dealt a random faction. In ADSET, there's no way to block specific factions from appearing even though in real life, I ALWAYS remove the other VB card. I don't think digital will ever replace TTS unless there are some very significant changes to digital. Digital is very streamlined but as a consequence there are some things we cannot do properly that we should be able to. Choosing wood tokens as an example or looking at the cards in the decree. For reasons like this, TTS makes for a more free and controlled environment. Digital has the advantage of correcting rules mistakes and I see a place for Root digital in the competitive world but I don't see it replacing TTS.
Very well said! I didnt even reallze about the Wood token part in Digital, but then again Cats are one of my least played factions 😅 And thank you for the replies, appreciate it!
I think the moles attacking the keep might already have been overpolicing the cats. The VB was gonna attack the cats anyway on their turn to farm Infamy points.
I agree, attacking the cats at that point was probably pure points greed. Many VB players who are newer aren't as concerned about board balance and policing as they are in just racing on infamy points. Glad the cats were able to tough it out and punish.
@@WesTheGiant Normally the cats do have a fox/bird card for an emergency keep assault which is why smart player tend to not try attacking the keep. In this case I actually assumed they were holding a fox/bird so by attacking the keep, I was hoping to pressure the cats into discarding a bird card to action tax their next turn. I wasn't at all expecting them to not have a card. Normally you should hold onto a card that matches the keep just in case but sometimes you just don't get the draws you need and have to hope your opponents assume that you have the cards. It's why the 3rd recruiter is so important because drawing 2 cards per turn is critical to getting emergency field hospitals cards.
Good Question, if I had been playing against players I perceived to be less experienced, I might have. But when you have really savvy opponents, buildings are big liability for moles. Buildings seem good in the moment but the Price of Failure hurts so much that it's better to get some ministers and recruits set up first before you start building. If you build too early, you can often find yourself stalling out mid-game because you opponents punish the greed and hit the buildings causing you to take a major hit to your tempo. Early buildings work very well against an inexperienced, passive table but if you try it against strong and proactive opponents, you'll see why it's not common to build buildings early.
43:29 It's not a bad ability it's a bad user. The ability is excellent when used DEFENSIVELY (even when not using it at all it's a good deterrence). That's all.
There is another way to obtain the 9 point in the final turn without battle: 2 assembly actions: build market in mouse with Master Engravers and build market in the bottom left corner with the rabbit Root tea Minister's action Baron of Dirt: 3 points Banker: Fox cards: 2 points Major: banker ability with rabbit: 1 point Brigaddier: Two moves from bottom left corner to The Pass Craft the Tea in Evening: 2 Points Pass: 1 Point
Great solve! Moles are definitely one of the factions I'm weakest with and have a pretty high skill ceiling despite being strong. Your solve is better than mine since mine required luck but in the heat of the moment, it was the best I could find.
I love how he went to all that effort to get the cats to expose the plot first turn so that he wouldn't lose cards, but then loses a card anyway because he guessed wrong.
On the surface it's pretty funny but the thing I was trying to avoid was getting the random card taken from me because I didn't want to lose Charm Offensive. That card was part of a more long term plan. Also, because the Crows double plotted in 2 rabbit clearings, my whole plan changed. I initially wanted to move up into the corner so that I could sway Brigadier with my 3 rabbit cards and therefore a turn 1 extortion was bad. But once the crows put 2 plots in bunny, I needed to change strategy and be OK with a squire sway on turn 1. Because I had decided to do a squire sway, I didn't need all 3 cards anymore and was happy to gamble Tunnels to guarantee that it wasn't an extortion. In the video I said that I didn't mind snare or raid, it was mostly extortion I was afraid of. If I'm losing a card either way, I'd rather it be my choice.

Moles and birds turns can take a long time once they're overflowing with actions. Worst thing is the computer taking over and messing up the plan.
Yup, being good at Root is a different skill from thinking quickly on your turns and being decisive.

Great table talk on turn 1 with that corvid plot!
What a game that was to watch, great ending!
Yooooo that last turn was bananas
The AI was the real MVP of this game.
Holy crap that was close!
Duchy less go Duchy
Adding Adset to the digital version is probly the best update Dire Wolf has made so far to Root i think!
How has the games felt to you so far?

I'm just surprised the cats had no fox cards to discard. Usually attacking the keep is not likely to succeed at all.

Yeah, either moles or the VB should have taken care of an unflipped token rather than dogpiling cats who at that point were slowed down.
Crows getting bullied like they're the biggest threat xD
that hurts to see
At that point they were, you know things are bad when the freaking VB ragequitted.
Why didn t you build any buildings early on?

Why was there no corvid warrior place in the clearing on the right at 25:12 ? After the raid token was removed
Because a cat's keep is there

@@nitrorev Yeah that's fair, to be honest I probably wasn't paying to close attention it was a bit late for me and I was kinda sleepy.
