@@j.prt.979 Yes, but that's a thing all VBs should know. Ambush trick almost feels like an Easter Egg in how obscure and amazing it is. Without the Ambush trick, I wouldn't have been able to turmoil Eyrie and they would have won most likely.
At the very end, you completed the ‘Give A Speech’ quest in the clearing with the Cat’s Keep to win the game. That feels oddly thematic… Like the Vagabond snuck into the keep, climbed to the top, and shouted at the forest “I WON!”.
Feels so funny to win the game off a quest. Probablyy favourite way to win a game as any faction is with Scoundrel nuking a clearing from existence for the last VP!
Root is a tough game!!! We've all been there in that learning phase, though most haven't had one of our learning games broadcast on RUclips so I owe it to them to be constructive and helpful.
Oh yeah! Expect Corvids nonsense sooner because I'm more comfortable with their strategy and tactics but Duchy will require at least a dozen competitive games of practice and experimentation before I feel like I can show a gameplay of me playing at my best. These videos are partly for fun but I also want them to be instructional for people who want to get better at Root and I don't think I'm good enough with Moles to be teaching them at a high level just yet. But I can guarantee they'll be showing up as opponents in lots of upcoming videos.
@@nitrorev they're great. The commentary and opinions on other moves really gives a brilliant insight on the strategy. I only really got into root a month or so ago when it started to click after watching a few playthroughs. Bought the full boardgame with all expansions... Its been an expensive one 😅
Looove doing this instigate trick! I remember first time I did it against the WA, it really changed the game. 2 warriors not being enough to defend their base is rough for them
Yeah, a savyy Vagrant can be bad news for WA. The counter play is to expect that this will happen at some point (Vagrant starting with coins makes them more likely to draw an ambush) and to hold onto a matching ambush so that if and when Vagrant tries this little trick, you can use your Ambush to foil their attempt. Now you are battling them and get the attacker advantage of the higher dice roll. The other side is that Vagrant probably won't do this unless they can account for all Ambushes that match the clearing, therefore guaranteeing it can't be foiled, or if they are desperate to not lose the game. If they cannot account for all Ambushes (because you are holding one) they may not even try in the first place!
man the turn 5 i would play totaly diferently i would pake friend with birds lure them away and destroy the empty nest so they turmoil and toss out a boot and do they cant force me to negative score relation ship with them. then i would aid my way to victory
It's going to be amazing!!! I'm really curious if Moles will do really well right away or if the digital player base is going to go through the same evolution in strategies as the rest of the meta did.
15:22 But… You can see the Eyrie’s decree though? You just need to click on their icon, on the left Really enlightening game, I don’t play much Vagabond but after watching this I kinda wanna give Vagrant a try. Wish more people uploaded commentary games running through their/the other player’s thought processes, good learning material
@@vladsergref OHHH! That makes a lot more sense, thankyou Yeah, for the higher levels of play I could definitely see that being a nice QOL change for the devs to implement at some point
No, because the rule for movement with allied warriors is that you're forcing the ally to move. Therefore the game sees this as the ally is moving. It's the ally that would then give the card, unless you are moving woodland alliance warriors, then no card is given.
I really think it's impossible to win with the marquise when you have a vagabond against. If you start with 2 sword you just obliterate them and is a free win. How can you stop the vagabond with the marquise?
If the Vagabond chooses to go after you like that, it might be difficult to win the game but it's also going to be difficult for the Vagabond. Because your buildings are well defended (they should be) and cats are scattered everywhere (they should be), it's usually pretty inefficient for Vagabond to infamy farm the cats. Also, if you realize that it's not possible for you to win, you should spend your actions attacking the vagabond as vengeance. The reason we don't see so much cat bullying in competitive games from the Vagabond is that Vagabond players know that a strong and experienced cats player will punish this type of behaviour and so they don't do it. That's how it is in my group meta. Nobody bullies my cats because they know that I'll just destroy them if they do. This way we all arrive at the end game in a decent position and the one who plays the best ends up winning.
Be sure to watch what I did at 28:45. It might be the most important take away from the video and I want to see more people doing it.
Honestly the dom swapping to avoid giving good cards is a better takeaway.

Yay! Vagrant has the most unique play style of all the vagabonds to me. Happy to see him get even more love!
I really appreciate how courteous and understanding you are despite all the severe misplays. Good sportsmanship!

These are always a treat, can't wait until underworld content arrives!
Glad you're enjoying them. They're always fun to make. Will have many more out once Underworld arrives.
Would love to join for a Root digital game when Underworld drops!
Great playthrough. That's a crackin trick with the vagrant. Looking forward to some content with the duchy and corvids!

I think they meant the specific cards in the decree, as it only allows anyone to see what the suit of the card in the decree is.

when you sneak in the morning, can I move my ally’s warriors with me or not?
Yes, Slip is not limited in any way. If you can do something as a daylight normal move action, you can assume that you could also do it during Slip.
do you have a discord for people to join and set up games?
Woodland warriors discord is the official Root and Leder games server!
Should I give my cards as supporters to the woodland alliance if I move to a loyal clearing with allied wars?
No, because the rule for movement with allied warriors is that you're forcing the ally to move. Therefore the game sees this as the ally is moving. It's the ally that would then give the card, unless you are moving woodland alliance warriors, then no card is given.
