To pull a Lizard W, sometimes you must sweat a lot and use 200% of brain power and sometimes you get ignored until they notice the constant flow of scoring.
I think this poor cat player is very new to the game unfortunately. Props for not being too harsh but also adding constructive feedback on the cat errors !
Yeah, Cats are not easy to play well. I remember how it was when I first started playing Root, I was terrible with cats. I wish I had somebody there to explain what I was doing wrong and what I could have done differently. With any luck, the cats player came upon this video and learned something from my commentary.
Just got this game and the River folk expansion. I keep reading that advance setup helps the lizards. 2 questions, what changes? And how does it help them? 🙏
Basic rules tell you what card you get at the beginning while advanced set up gives you 5 random cards at your opening hand and you return 2. You also pick a better homeland to start with advanced set up + you get some warriors and the cards that fit you more with the clearing that you picked as homeland. You will still start anyway with 3 cards at your opening hand but better
It's because of the ability to claim dominance cards from the dominance area once they are discarded. This has 2 major practical benefits. The first is that you can spend a card that matches the dominance (fox card for the fox dominance as an example) and then score the dominance card, this might sound like a needless second step but if your goal is to push the outcast towards fox, you've now put 2 fox cards into the lost souls, so the dominance card allowed you to stack the lost souls a bit more, thus giving you more control over your outcast. The Major benefit is that because you can spend a bird card to claim any suited dominance, you can essentially turn a bird card (a card you cannot use to score or recruit or build) into a suited card that you can score, namely a non-bird dominance. This trick allows you more control over the composition of your hand and makes it so you can score more often as long as you can keep the dominance cards in your orbit of control (lost souls and then back into hand and then back into lost souls). This trick is done in literally 100% of competitive lizards games and it's not only helpful but mandatory to be competitive as lizards.
I'm considering getting root digital and have the base game irl but the og factions are a little boring now after so many games. Does root digital include the expansion factions for free or are they dlc? Also if they are dlc do u still think it would be worth getting?
Root digital has Expansions upi Underworld and also available are Exiles a Partisans deck and Advanced setup from Marauder. It's all DLC but I consider it worth it since it makes the game much richer as base 4 does get a bit stale after awhile
Anybody can move into the keep. Enemies may not PLACE pieces in the keep but they may MOVE into the keep. Those are 2 key words that are different in function
@@nitrorev I guess the nomenclature for the word “place” is confusing to me. As when I intuitively think of “moving a piece” I place it there from a previous position. - I guess I need to fully figure out what “place” means, but I’m going to guess it’s any sort of positioning or spawning that does not entail a “move”, haha. I’ll be more mindful of those words, fairly new to the boardgame and so far everyone I’ve played with has assumed movement was not allowed where the Keep was located. Oops. Thanks for the clarification!
@@KommandantKavu I suggest reading the Law of Root once and being mindful of when the rules say move and when they say place. If the word PLACE is used, then that's what they mean and it's specifically not Move. Some example of place actions: Build, recruit, Sawmills making wood, spread sympathy, revolt, sanctify, establish trade post, etc. Generally speaking if something is going from the faction board or supply to the map, that's place, but if it's going from one clearing or forest on the map to another forest or clearing then it's a move. Placing pieces doesn't trigger outrage for Woodland Alliance, but moving into a clearing with sympathy does. You may move into the keep, but you may not place pieces there. For playing against Corvids, you may move into a clearing with a snare but you cannot move out (unless through Vagabond slip). You cannot place pieces in a snared clearing either but you may remove pieces like cats spending wood or Keepers recovering relics.
@@nitrorev all of that intuitively makes sense to me. And I did watch your corvid video (and all your other faction videos), for some reason the “move” and place distinction wasn’t apparent to me, but it’s pretty clear now. I’ll considering giving the Law of Root book at least 1 full read-thru just to make sure I’m not missing anything else. :)
Nope, Advanced Setup is rather new. The Marauder Expansion only hit retail a few months ago. The Digital team takes time to program all the new content so it may take awhile. We are still waiting for the Underworld Expansion.
There is! The Dire Wolf team teased us with a behind the scenes photo recently of the Mountain Map and off to the side, we can see the Underground Duchy's Burrow! They haven't told us when the release date will be but it's very exciting nonetheless.
@@nitrorev I am glad to read this, I must ignore the online game for the lack of new faction, but if it seems to move something Underground (blink) I must buy it!
No because you can only score once per suit per turn. I already had the cards I needed to score with mouse and fox so the battle points were 100% necessary.
We should all strive to become like this Marquise player, and live our lives free from material attachments.
Root online gameplay is much appreciated there's not enough of it!

Lave this playthrough! Really nice commentary work! Always a fan of seeing Lizards 🦎
Nice!!! more playthought please👏🏼👏🏼
A good example of how to gift wb the win but then get saved by rng twice heh. GG

Just curious, why are the Dominance cards so important as Lizards? Why are they any different from a card of that suit in your hand?

Sure! I recommend you get a discord account, join the Woodland Warriors server and message me there. It's the best way to plan Root games.
