Great video JT! I hope you could cover the aerial gunner job next time. Really interested if that is some type of support job where you work with maintaining the helicopter weapons during the day while going on ops, or if it is a job that is more broad considering it is Navy and not AF and aviation specific. (Or if it even is a rate available to enlist as, or if it is more like a job that you volunteer for from a different rate) Thanks brother!

Isaiah Bias No. :( Thats the rate I wanted, but it wasnt available at meps when I went so I got AECF, but my recruiter filled out my DAR request and turned it in to switch to CTR. So hopefully that comes in before I ship. I'm really pressuring them to get my transfer.

I just joined the navy and the job I have is GSM (Gas Turbine System Technician Mechanical). I don't know anything about mechanics so I'm surprised this job was offered to me. Can you please discuss this job and what it entails. I've been reading about it online and there is a lot of negative feedback. This was pretty much the only job available to me and I really wanted to join so I took it. Please discuss this job so I can know what I'm really going to be doing for the next 5 years, thank you!

JTsuits sorry for not seeing your reply. I dont know if you recall who I am (I see your channel is going far), but I am that guy going for AO (The rate of low ASVAB scores hahaha). I saw you video on the Top 5 worst rates, and AO made it. I'm just here for good laughs..... and as much info possible. Thanks for all the content. It is cool to see all the footage you put on your vids (mostly talking about you directing helicopters).
Devon Toms Ok ill give you a very vague description of what an AO does. Im in a squadron (Line Shack) but i see the AOs on the Flight Line 24/7 pretty much what youll be doing is lifting ordanance and/or loading the guns thats if youre in a F/18 squadron like me. Thats one possiblity. Really depends on what type of command you end up in.
Have no worries Devon Toms! My husband was a hospital corpsman but his dad got really sick (Irony there.. how crazy.) so he cross rated over to AO. It's not always about low ASVAB scores, but what is available at the time. Anyway, AOs are some hard working guys. My husband's chest and back was built from it! Don't let others bother you. (Everyone teases everyone really.) You are the one with live ordinance on deployments. Best of luck and thanks for your service!
man im in a predicament. i leave in april as an HM but im starting to feel like that career field isnt for me. i already changed my rate once before and been waiting literally a yr to ship out. idk if i should just thug it out or try to change my rate again and avoid being unhappy in the navy.

do PR's go to any special schools like Airborne school or anything of that matter?
They can, if attached to SEAL support or special boat units. There is also different level maintenance that require specialty schools. Most people don’t really know what PR’s do and there is wide range. Best rate in aviation, keep that quiet.
When you go Special Warfare support you will be assigned to Air Operations. You will be sent to Army Airborne and Special Operations Rigging school. Once at the shop, you’ll be sent to Military Free Fall (MFF) and Jump Master. I wanted to go through the Army MFF course but the Navy has a contract with Tactical Air Operation in Otay Mesa, CA, running a condensed static line and MFF course. You do get jump pay also and jump regularly. When not jumping, you are packing chutes and doing Drop Zone Safety Officer duties. Best part was two hours of PT in the morning and occasional beach runs, and then hitting the gut truck for breakfast burritos!
