  • Your best bet is to take batteries to a disposal/reclamation facility and that should be your first option; however, that is not always possible and the last thing you should do is just throw it away.
    The salt water trick isn't the answer either because that can merely corrode the positive/negative leads and leave voltage in the cell. This video shows how to completely drain a lipo. When you've completed the process shown in this video you can throw the remains in the trash.

    hey, so my battery has 2 wires sticking out of it, a positive and a negative. Am i allowed to just drop it off in a battery recycling bin? I'm scared it might still be charged and hurt someone if something goes wrong.

    PLS what resistor would you recommend for discharging two 3s 5000mah at once? (so either 6s 5000mah if in series or 3s 10.000mah if in parallel)
    I have few very puffed pairs I need to discharge for disposal
    I don't want to discharge them too fast and put too much strain on them since they are already very puffed....something safe I can keep plugged in overnight (outisde in a lipo bag) and it will drain them within few hours
    also please state if the recommended resistor is for series or parallel, thx

    Thank you very much
    I used 2 old ceramic resitors in parallel to go faster and it does the job : 2 x 10W 2Ohm.J
    The last 200 mV on this 2S 2200mAh are long ....
    Puff puff puff

    So say someone lost a 3s 1000mah lipo in their basement after they drained it down to around 3.1ish volts on a run about a week ago and is internally freaking out that their house is gonna burn down in the middle of the night. Is it probable that the battery's gonna burst into flames if the voltage gets too low and if so how long till it does? I'm asking for a friend.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  4 года назад +1

      At 3.1v, it's probably not strong enough to cause any damage by itself. If the internals are damaged in any way, they could spontaneously combust, but again, at 3.1v it probably wouldn't amount to much. There's certainly no way for me to predict how long a damaged battery will remain volatile. Now if a bunch of flammable material were sitting on top of it when it let go, that could wind up on the news.
      Your friend should probably get busy and find his battery.

      @@RCVideoReviews nah, my little buddy passed about two months ago, he was good about leaving stuff be. Only thing I could think of would be that it might have been mixed in with some packaging on my desk and probably got thrown away. I'm pretty sure wherever I had left it i saw it and a little voice said to charge it and put it away but I didn't do it, I also seem to remember it falling in some God-forsaken crevice and I told myself I would find it later. Rip. I'm not too concerned about cells and stuff not discharging at the same rates because I've left it for a few months (in my lipo bag) forgetting to charge it before and they were within about .7 volts of each other. Still something I don't want to leave laying around tho, cuz there's a high change a tool or something else could get dropped on it

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  2 года назад

      Connect the mains to a load just like this video shows. It doesn't matter what the battery wants. A load will drain the battery. When you read 0.0v on the mains, you put it in the trash as it becomes inert.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  3 года назад

      If you run a lipo to 0v, you need to retire it as there is permanent damage to the cell. It's not worth the risk trying to recover.
