There are too many comments asking why I didnt split the cells of this battery, to make it 5S. All other cells had terrible internal resistance and were also useless from being abused on speed runs for you! Despite that I dont endorse splitting cells, If you are fine with doing it then have at it but just like the instruction manual that comes with some lipos I have a responsibility to new people in the hobby not to open the battery and burn their house down. This device is for killing those puffed and damaged lipos that could do that and people who dont have the luxury of a recycling center. I dont have a battery sponsor., I buy all my own batteries. So wanna split your batteries? Fine thats on you not me.
Dont like this product? move on. Cheers

You could have turned that 6S into a 5S ... "waste not .. want not" . You could also kill unwanted Lipos by filling a 5 gal. utility bucket with salt water, and just throwing the battery in there. For an exciting method (and I've seen this done on YT ), you simply get a large 10 penny nail (like the ones used for holding up house gutters) and with one smack of the hammer, pound it thru all the cells (wear eye protection and gloves). Not a recommended method, but some people might be looking for 'fireworks' for the upcoming New Year celebration .. ha ha! Myself, I have some 100 watt & 200 watt power resistors that are low ohms ( 0.5 to 6 ohms) and I can use alligator jumper wires to connect one of those across the XT-60 .. Place the power resistor on an empty aluminum cat food tin (heat sink) and help warm up your home whilst killing Lipos. As a retired Sr. Electronic Tech, I could tell you some interesting stories of what Techs do to "liven up the day" (intentionally create magic smoke and/or loud bangs). Happy New Year ... Cheers.

I try not to encourage splitting cells Bill. If someone new tries it and it goes wrong there are enough reasons new people are leaving this hobby as it is. the salt water thing works but it wont read 0 volts for a couple of weeks. the fumes given off from puncturing them are toxic. So I think this is a good safe product for someone who has safety concerns. but thanks for your input as always

Hey Andy two things. Well actually three things! First, absolutely love the channel. Thank you so much for your contributions to our hobby. Second thing the plastic piece and the standoffs are designed to be attached to the circuitboard in a way that guarantees airflow under the board even if you set it down on a flat surface. And third still the safest and most effective way to discharge or “kill” a lipo battery is in a metal bucket filled with salt water!

    • @AndyRCchannel

Very useful little gadget 😁 I see some are saying in the comments that you can cut off the healthy cells and make a 4s or 2s lipo which you could do but that's only a good idea if you know what you're doing. Buckets of salt water and nails are also only for those who know what there doing. Pluging it into a £4 board and leaving it is by far the safest option and the only one you could recommend without the danger of being sued. Thanks Andy 👍👍

Its NOT hard to make a 6s into a 4 s. Usually there are pairs of cells so if one is dead, the other connecting cell is at risk. Its easy to remove the dead cell. You can leave the others hooked up to the board on the battery. Just clip the charging positive and negative wires from the dead cell and carefully remove the dead soldier from the pack. There are many videos out there that show how its done.

Coming from someone with many years in the electronic industry, I agree Andy salt water is a bad idea when it comes to disposing of lipos. The salt water usually corrodes the cell connections first then doesn't allow the hermetically sealed cell a proper electrical path to complete the chemical/electrolysis discharge. To use this method efficiently you would have to cut open each cell, which is extremely dangerous with a lipo in a charged state. Sometimes the simple method is the best, like using a halogen globe outside in a safe environment to full discharge it. Then when fully discharged cut your connector off, strip the wires and twist them together and cover with insulating tape. Now your lipo is safe to dispose of and recycle. The lipo killer also looks like a winner and for the cost you would buy a few, however I wonder how long it would last considering electronics doesn't like heat. How hot do those resistors get? I think as a lipo storage discharger it may have a better market with the added feature of the kill circuit. BTW I think the plastic cover is to prevent the discharge resistors on the base from shorting out or burning you when the circuit is operating? Cheers for the review, cheap as beans so buy a few and good for the new kid who doesn't know what they are doing.

I bought three of these to use as cheap dischargers to storage voltage. I found that two of them intermittently wouldn't discharge a couple of of the 'middle' cells (all the LEDs lit up initially as the board booted up) ... if you unplugged the lead and plugged it back in enough times it eventually did work OK. Some of the solder joints where the pins for the balance plug connected to the PCB didn't look that great - I re-flowed all of these with a fine-tipped iron and that *seems* to have done the trick. All the SMD soldering on the boards looks good ... it was just where the pins were (hand?) soldered to the board. Worth a try if you get similar problems.

the original qx95 I have still works but back then they had no OSD im guessing you upgraded to the osd AIO version? those ones have died on me every time and now everything has moved to brushless i think the development stopped. only thing i can think of is try get hold of one of the original boards or the alienwii board. the thing that kills the fets on those boards is not disarming after a crash, motors stay running and burns them out. also if you crash a lot the motor shaft gets bent this also destroys the motor and burns the fet out. id look at getting yourself a tiny whoop. much more crash proof and can improve your skills.

Hey Andy, Why Would You Want To Kill Them!? Just Take The Bad Cell Out Of The Pack & Use The Smaller Battery For Another Use!?? Make A Six Cell A 5s or 4s... Or a 4s A 3s ETC!!! Or If You Have A Few Packs With A Bad Cell Reuse Good Cells Together & Make One New Good One!!! OR Y'all Just Send Them All To Me For Recycling !!! Thanks

It can be dangerous and its never advised to take cells apart especially when new people to the hobby find videos like that. Even if you know what you are doing there is a risk. and not everyone has a hazardous waste disposal close by, also if a battery is totally puffed its useless. and I have about 20 of those u want em? not easy shipping lipos where im from though ;)

      @@AndyRCchannel yes I want them
Need the excitement and never disappointed
No wait dont want puffers but I've reconstructed good cells into new packs when desperate for a project works good

Well I Build Solar Power Walls & Such! Li-Ion & Li-Po Batteries Are REALLY Expensive & Maybe They Don't Have The Power To Fly Your Racing Quads 100+mph Butt They Are Still Plenty Good To Run Your Home Lights & Microwave Etc... Some People Just Have Money's To Burn I Guess!? Lol Thanks

they dont have money to burn, they just dont want their house to burn down... there is a difference, im lucky that a local company will buy lipos off me for recycling. not everyone has that convenience but having a job like that I can see why it would annoy you for sure
