- No more wheel hop! Installation of caltrac traction bars from calvert racing on my dodge. Installation would be very similar on a powerstroke or duramax or even a muscle car.

Great content
Great video. Got a pointer for you that might help you out in the future. If you're installing a metal bushing into a leaf spring or anything for that matter put it in the freezer overnight before hand and it'll slide in with out having to press it in. We do it all the time on semi trucks.
Thanks for the tip! We used to put parts in a cooler of dry ice overnight back when I worked on rollercoasters years ago.
Great video.
Great video man! Definitely will help when install mine
Thanks! You will love them!
Quick thinking on the bolt cutting. I’ll be using that method. Living in the salt belt myself you gotta be crafty when it comes to wrenching on seasoned vehicles lol
Thanks for the video. I'm about to put the exact same ones on my 04. I don't feel like pulling the entire leafs off so I'm gonna try what you did
Wow man, getting those bushings out was such a pain in the butt you made it look easy it took me much longer, lol
I just put a set on my 74’ Duster. 👍🏾
What was the company and what did the kit cost? I have an 1982 D150 which i think they share the same set up as far as leaf spring brackets and Ubolts etc
Did you take off the race on the bushing???
Did it fix all the wheel hop? And its the bar adjustable for different sizes?
Yes totally eliminated all wheel hop. Caltrac racing had me make measurements before I ordered. It can fit any size lift or lowering that u might have on it if you give them the correct measurements.
Does it make a noticeable difference when daily driving? How abut handling in the corners, better?
They really don't do anything unless you are under power.
I just got these in my shop. Going on 06 Megacab. My question is, or fear is, how do they do as a daily driver? Did it eliminate the rear from absorbing bumps, or no effect??
I drive it everyday. They are different than most traction bars. If you look at the design, it pivots on the leaf. Only time it really does anything is when the rear end torques under load. I can't tell there on there unless I'm accelerating. Definitely makes a difference on traction tho. First time I went to do a burnout after installing them, I stalled it out. They lit up real easy before then. Put them on, there aren't any Ill effects that I've noticed.
Thank you very much for your quick response! Listening to your experience, these Caltracs sound like a winner all around. I used your pointers in the video to prep. These are going on tomorrow. Can't wait!
next is cal fenders
The bolt was in the other way for strength.
Nice ir gun
Thanks! It's a beast. Sometimes you need something like that. Just bought a battery milwaukee with 1400 ft lbs too. Should be a good one too.
👌🏼👍👍👍👍
What kind of preload are you running now? I tried all sorts of different adjustments and still have wheel hop with these bars.
Never changed them from the initial recommended setting. 0 wheel hop going forward. I've done burnouts and everything. Had to relearn the burnout tho bc they bite so much better now. First time I tried to after the bars I stalled it out.
Yea, I would have just kept those rubber bushings on. Dont see metal on metal lasting very long such as with a daily driver.
djzomb1 can't install them without them so not sure how that would work.
Looks like a nice bar, but hangs too low on the axle end for a truck that's going to be taken off road...
I think that would be true for any traction bar would it not? It doesn't hang as low as most. I like that it looks more hidden.
So, I'm attempting to install these on my 1996 4x4 (100% stock suspension). Yours looks like a 2wd. It has the Dana 80 just as yours does. It looks like the difference between mine and yours is that mine has a big lift block under the leafs to raise the rear end. The problem I'm having is that the links are far too long, even with the joints screwed all the way in when weight is on the rear end I'm still about an inch away from being able to bolt them up. I'm assuming, but not positive that they sent me the wrong length of links. Maybe for the 2wd model. Hence the different part numbers between 2wd and 4x4.
They actually had me measure mine before placing the order. Call them I'm sure they will make it right.
@@HorsepowerTube Thanks for the reply, I actually see the measurement instructions sheet on the website. I contacted them. Another question, did you have to do any relocation of your parking brake cable at all? I'm finding that it is somewhat getting in the way of the bracket mounted on the front portion of the leaf spring on the driver side.
@@bluebellbus70 yeah that does sound familiar. I think I bent that bracket at a slightly different angle to clear it better. Didn't notice it until after I made the video.
