- Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) is an honorable family man, until the day his wife and daughter are murdered in a home invasion. He hopes for justice, but a rising prosecutor named Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) cuts a deal with one of the killers in exchange for testimony. Ten years later, that man is found dead and Shelton coolly admits his guilt. Then he hands Rice an ultimatum: Fix the broken legal system or suffer the consequences.

This is one of my favorite movies.
No way! One of my favorite movies. I was rooting for Clive! I'm always mad by the end. He was out to prove that the justice system needs to change, by any means possible.
That blonde honey didn't deserve to die.

And while he lost the battle, the justice system didn't win.
Clyde was not just after revenge though was he? He was exposing the lack of justice inherent in the so-called Justice System and trying to force those that operate it to acknowledge the fatal flaws.
This is such a GOOD movie. Whether some people agree with his actions or not, I think we can all understand the rage that he had when he lost, not just his wife, but his innocent child & then for the killer to pretty much get away with it. I’ve dealt with the justice system before & honestly, it’s broken. Sometimes justice isn’t fully enforced by the courts. Great reaction! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Even Roger Ebert admitted this was a good movie when it came out. I think his review of it said something along the lines of it being great at what it does, and for what it is.
This movie does a great job putting us in Clive's shoes, so many times we want to the criminal get their comeuppance but get away with it and we are rooting for Gerard's character to get revenge but there's that fine line of slowly becoming as evil as the people who killed his family, awesome film!
This film is a bit underrated and overlooked.

Clyde wasn’t taking any crap from anyone.
Nick was never the good guy. This is one of my favorite movies.
I don't know if we were suppose to not like Nick but I couldn't stand him. I feel like he never really gave Clyde sympathy for or understanding for the lost of his family. The way Nick handled the case was wrong and I wish Nick would of got a little beating or something.

Clyde was the good guy the whole time. The part where Jamie fox says fuck his civil rights makes me mad he didn't get blown up too. As a African American I don't know he let those words roll off his lips.

They are so quick to talk about the smart officers, but what about those focused brutal ass villains with nothing to lose !
Exactly those kinds of villains need more attention. Because they are the most scary kind.
A better ending would have been if Nick still gave Clyde a chance at the end even though he did detonate the bomb. He could have helped Clyde disarm it and then put him in another jail/cell that hadn’t been tampered with so then Clyde could actually pay with serving time for the crimes he committed. Yes obviously I’m team Clyde through in through but I’m just saying that this could have been an ending where Nick still technically wins, and Clyde doesn’t die.
Never heard of this, but made me think of "Falling Down" when saw the title. If haven't seen, it's worth a watch!

One of my favorite movies! There's actually an alternate ending floating around here on the RUclipss where Clive wins in the end - it may be fan made or something but it's pretty convincing and worth a watch 😎
Sorry for the notification you're gonna get for this, I know it's at least a year since you left this comment but I had read or heard somewhere that the original script called for Clyde Shelton to succeed in his plan and Nick Rice was supposed to lose but the story goes that Jamie Foxx was raising hell over his character losing and the script was altered to the ending that we have here now. If I can find a link to whatever it was I saw that on I'll post it
Great review and reaction! The opening scene is based on the Pettit home invasion murders in CT that happened some years ago.

Clyde is a man with nothing more left to lose except his belief that the System can be made to change for the better, whether its professional practitioners like it or not, admit it or not. He has trenchant points to make, and he makes them in ways calculated to hurt as much as he has been hurt. That can never be the right way to go about it and he HAS to lose in the end. We - I mean, I - must continue to believe that satisfactory justice is possible and attainable, and continue his fight by the civil means within our power. 🤨 😕

I liked the movie up until the end, throughout the movie we'd seen him take every precaution, have thought of every single detail for years.... and for some reason he doesn't have any security precautions for the place he's escaping from his cell each night beyond a lock on the front door :/ I was very disappointed and it ruined the film for me >:(
