@@Bobsheauxhey bro, are you ever going to review the MONDO/Corradi ‘Welcome Back, Pinocchio!” ???. It’s easily the most insane version of the tale. Crazier than his titanic movies
Easy way to write Pinocchio into sci-fi: A scientist spends his whole life building robots for a large corporation, to the point he's sacrificed his personal life and has no family. Too late in his life he realized he truly wants to have a son, so he makes an AI robot that can learn and act like a person. Unfortunately, his superiors notice his project and question the ethics and dangers of creating an artificial life, but they let him continue on the condition the robot behaves, otherwise it will not be allowed to use its full ability to adapt and learn so that it couldn't go Skynet on everyone...see? It wasn't so hard. Don't just copy-paste the Pinocchio story and change a few words, ADAPT it.
or... A tinkerer/scientist realized he was so entangled with his passion for mechanics that he never had a son until advance age, so he decided to build one. At the same time, a massive company is developing a new way to create synthetic bodyparts, eveyrthing that makes a body, project "blue fairy". But to test it well, they decide to make an AI to serve as a functional body "tester". Geppeto's is well renowed for his work, so when he is building Pinnochio, the company calls him to offer the chance of his pinnochio testing the synthetic body program. But to make it compatible, he needs to fully developt his "brain", so Geppeto makes a software that simplifies the development by simple emotional conections, and the hardest for Pinoccio to learn is honesty (maybe because it was the last to be programed and got less space on the drive). To help him, the company build a small robot called "cricket" to comunicate with Pinoccio at any distance and keep an eye on him. Strombolli could be a failed enginneer, the island where the kids are sent could maybe be a black market for organs as the synthetic organs were ruining the regular organ market and the huge whale could be a huge rogue AI that collects all trash as some kind of moving junkyard. And oh, maybe his nose could have been made of a spare part because Gepetto ran out of parts or such so he used a telescopic dookickey.
Does anyone else think Scamboli is basically a discount Eggman? They're both more or less egg-shaped, they're both geniuses, they both have an affinity for robotics, they both want to mechanize their homelands, they both had an evil scheme that involved an amusement park, and they both have two dimwitted robot minions.
Wait. Pinocchio got his name from being made of pine wood. Pine trees have pine needles. What are sewing needles made of? Metal. What are robots made of? Metal. These guys are geniuses...or they were just too lazy to change his name. Yeah, let's go with that.
I feel it's worth mentioning the CG in this movie isn't bad, but a lot of the character designs just make it look...awful. The colors just don't work, the faces get really uncanny...but I really feel like a lot of the visual discomfort this movie gives me is down to bad design and not technical limitations....
Never realized how insane this movie was until I watched this review. My childhood memories crumbled faster than a cookie being eaten by the cookie monster.
That whole schtick with 12 the cop and 42 the patrol car made the movie dramatically much more interesting. Plus, in the end credits where you discuss that morality can be programmed would have made this film also much more interesting.
First your idea for an alternative plot for "Fly me to the Moon," now the robot buddy-cop movie "12." You have some great ideas that would make these stupid movies much more interesting, if not better. Shame that sort of creativity is rare in the movie industry.
This is basically half life 2. 1. A futuristic setting 2. A ruthless totlarian ruler who wants to turn people into cyborgs 3. A ruthless police force 4. People getting turned into cyborgs
On the subject of "futuristic" adaptions of classic fairy tales, there's a comic book called "Snow White and the Seven Robots". No, I didn't make that up..
My theory on why the kids couldn't keep their free will: Adults are more secure in their personal identities, they know who they are and what they stand for, so it makes sense that a stronger mind would keep its free will when placed in a robot body. Kids don't know who they are yet, they're easier to control and convince of things, and they don't really know who they are yet. Their minds are weaker, less familiar with the world, and less intelligent.
Just because he used MORE imagination that doesn't mean he's more creative. I can imagine a thousand sparkles but you can can imagine one dragon Which do you think would win? Which is more creative?

I've read the original Carlo Collodi version of Pinocchio and this movie seems to have nothing to do with it. It's more like some sort of Astro Boy ripoff.

+Bobsheaux , sorry if this seems strange, but, I remember this movie we watched in 5th grade. It was like a cross between phantom of the opera and beauty and the beast. I've been trying to find what it's name was , from what I can remember , it's a pretty cool movie. Could you help me find out what it was ?
I'm curious, did Scamboli ever actually scam anyone? He was giving out free tickets to kids and didn't try to turn them into robots until Pinocchio suggested it. Did he overcharge for popcorn, have a shoes fee, destroy trees to become the only producer of oxygen, what?
Oh my god, I have been looking for the title to this movie for YEARS! I saw the saving-the-flower-from-the-robot scene when I was little and I've never forgotten it! I don't know why I've never forgotten it, it didn't leave any life-changing impact on me, I've just had this vivid memory floating around for like a decade... at least I know the name of this lame movie now :D
What the difference between a robot and a man? Well, we've created a robot that can feel both negative and positive emotions and will confront you if it feels like you've emotionally hurt it. It's name is Pepper. She may not look extremely human but it's the first step into free and critically thinking Artificial Intelligence. We can only hope that this ends up like Chobits and not Fallout 4.
Bobsheaux I know. It doesn't look too human yet but this is the first step. To either something like Chobits, which is good as it helps humanity. Or the matrix.
LittleWorld Games I mean't synths, not Mr. Handy Units. As much as it seems like Codsworth has his own mind he's probably just programmed to not do anything illegal, even if ordered to by his master. So if you get to his lowest relationship rating I would be inclined to say that it's just what his programming is telling him to do. A synth on the other hand is a synthetic human, they think they are the human they once were with Nick being one of the first free thinking synths in existence. So they could turn out like Nick, or they could turn out like McDonoug.
But then the future isn’t going to be anthropomorphic in anytime soon. So instead the computers and chatbots have largely replaced human robots as artificial companions now.
16:52 The Cybermen would've been more appropriate than Daleks, seeing as they are humans forcibly turned into mindless cyborgs, but I appreciate the reference nonetheless

does robot age really matter? i mean look at XJ9 / Jenny from My Life as a Teenage Robot, created 4 years ago (in the show itself) yet programed as a 16 year old
I watched this movie a few times as a kid, maybe like 3. The only part that i remember is the stupid joke about the stop lights in the climax. However, it haunts me. I randomly remember it when i cross the street. It's been years. Free me from this hell someone please
Wait... Stromboli wanted Pinocchio in his show because he was a puppet without strings; he could move independently. What's so special about this robot? They don't make a big deal of him having free will.
I imagine cyberina as a scientist friends with gepetto, and offers to help making Pinocchio "human" by using futuristic biology science stuff; but she needs to be sure that Pinocchio knows about things like morals and right and wrong so nobody is going after her or gepetto if Pinocchio does something wrong. But what do I know? I'm just a random comment
I kind of enjoy this movie, I got it from a cheap shop when I assume it first came out XD Also I've noticed at least two similarities to the 2003 Astro Boy anime. As have other people XD The draining of the city to resurrect/bring the main character to life, and "Stay away from my daughter, robot!" Now to draw the two meeting XD I think I might like a crossover.
“What’s the difference between a robot and a man?” Human flesh! If it was a combination of both, he would be a cyborg. And yet he’s barely even an android.
11:50 Well, if a certain Dr. Susan Calvin is to be believed, robots are essentially decent. Also, am I the only one who thought Scamboli was an alternate universe version of Dr. Robotnik? Both are rotund, both are industrialists and genius inventors (particularly when it comes to robots), they have similar color schemes, both build amusement parks as part of their evil plan, both try to turn organic life forms into robots, and both have idiot robot sidekicks.
This movie is so unfaithful to the original Pinocchio and it also rips off Astro Boy and Blue Sky’s Robots (which was released a year after this movie)
Hey bobsheaux, I'm thinking of a futuristic little mermaid based off of this film. A hologram with feelings for a boy named Enn. So, she wants to become human/ robot with nerves(?) by asking one of her machine friends, but it backfires because her voice was not placed into a robot that her friends picked out for her. Sadly, she discovers something that I can't tell you... Tell me, is it good?

And then, without Scamboli to lead them, the city quickly fell into chaos and anarchy, with millions lost to the barbaric crowds.
Scamboli... The hero the city needed... :(

Why do I hear that in my mind being said in a Ron Pearlman voice from the Fallout games?
Couldnt they just elect a new mayor

Yep
And android kakakider how ever you say that :-P

I've only watched anime series. I saw like the first few minutes of the CGI movie and lost interest. I'm pretty sure the original counts as scifi.

I honestly can't tell, I think it's the latter, but I could be wrong.
Either way, the answer is still "a lot".

I wonder how many people were connected to life support when Pinnocio's Dad drained the city's power
For some reason I really like how the name "Scamboli" sounds. It's really fun to say!
AmishParadise27 (AKA: Tyler) it's kinda like Manny Spamboni...interestingly enough, I confuse Scamboli with Spamboni...
I like how it sounds, too. But it's 'cos it sounds like a buttery Italian pasta to me. Lol

I was like that with the xbox 360

Scamboly: What are you doing in my edgy swamp I'm going to eat your planet
And eggman :v
By the Gods... You're right.
Thanks now i cant unsee it
And Piper from Robots
Holy crap
I heard the name "cyberina" and immediately thought "boy, wonder if shes played by whoopie goldberg"
Ive never even seen this thing
Some things are just unavoidable, right? lol
As silly as the movie is.. I kinda really like the aesthetic. All of that art-deco look.
Pinocchio as a sci-fi story can work. It did before with works like Astro Boy and MegaMan
Next time I checked, MegaMan doesn't give a shit about being a robot
He's a fighting robot.

Also A.I.

P3000 is a European American coproduction.

You totally need to make that Unit 12 movie.
"As my great Aunt Arctica . . . ."
Ugh! Normally, I'm a sucker for awesomely baaaad puns, this one was just . . . . . ugh!

Isaac 1990 I’m sure that the Trollface might have infiltrated into kids films by the time P3000 got released.

...That's slightly profound.
Like ur mom
Well shit, now i want a Unit 12 movie.
But it should be better then this movie, right?
Darren Bandit damn it out of ammo
Darren Bandit alright gimme 2,000 pounds
A terrible crew of animators
And some voice actors from the streets
I was terrified of this movie as a kid.
Thanks for tearing it apart.
Oh please, there was already a take on Pinocchio as a robot. it's call A.I.
Is that Astro boy?
That hypothetical Old Cop, New Cop thing emotionally moved me so much more than the actual movie did.
I watched this movie a few times as a kid, maybe like 3. The only part that i remember is the stupid joke about the stop lights in the climax. However, it haunts me. I randomly remember it when i cross the street. It's been years. Free me from this hell someone please
at the end of the day, the best way to make Pinocchio into a Sci-Fi story is just to rip off Bicentennial Man
Dude, I feel asleep while this was still playing and my dreams were infected with the dialogue of the review!
When i first seen this movie when i was younger i thought the people turning into robots was scary af
Wait... Stromboli wanted Pinocchio in his show because he was a puppet without strings; he could move independently. What's so special about this robot? They don't make a big deal of him having free will.
13:52 that toy story “everywhere” meme
Oh my god I actually remember the trailer for this....
I just noticed: Unit 12 wasn't the one who rammed into Scamboli. It was actually 42.
+BarbleBapkins Unit 12 rides in Unit 42.
Wha...?
@@RavenFoxAudio I only now just realized my little blunder, LOL.
The movie is so early 2000's
I think they tried to make the fairy-genie thing to be like genie voiced by late Robin Williams.
+Samu Solala (LocoFan09) And that's totally fine. But if it's a holographic robot thing, you HAVE to question where it came from! lol
Maybe they also tried to mix his role as the internet browser hologram thing from A.I
I kind of enjoy this movie, I got it from a cheap shop when I assume it first came out XD
Also I've noticed at least two similarities to the 2003 Astro Boy anime. As have other people XD
The draining of the city to resurrect/bring the main character to life, and "Stay away from my daughter, robot!"
Now to draw the two meeting XD I think I might like a crossover.
I really want to see Bobsheaux review the Roberto Benigni Pinocchio movie.
I have no idea how I missed this one😅
2021
This movie is so unfaithful to the original Pinocchio and it also rips off Astro Boy and Blue Sky’s Robots (which was released a year after this movie)
Even though Disney already MADE a Treasure Island movie. Then a Muppet version.
I'm talking about the Treasure Planet part.
Every adaptation of Pinocchio is terrible except the Disney one.
mokku of the oak tree is better than the disney one in my opinion haha
since its a darker and more sadistic adaption
Oh Yeah Bobsheaux hit 6k subscribers!
Seth Gekko This is a brilliant idea, I'm inspired to write the steam punk little mermaid after reading your comment! I hope you don't mind!
Interesting idea, but I have to ask...
Will this story follow the Disney Little Mermaid or original story?
I need to rewatch the film. I remember loving it as a kid, maybe ill still like it as an adult?
